What does the "Open Fire!" skill do?

I got the skill a few levels ago, and haven't been able to figure out what it does to this day. I've used it time and time again in battle, and I can't see anything happen - whether I have a crew on-board or if I'm by myself.

Does anyone know what its supposed to do?

Open Fire, along with Take Cover both are ones I havent seen much good use on. I know there are others that will swear by them, but for me at this time, crew cannot see when it is used, and when I have used either of them, I have seen no difference in the damage give/taken.
Im thinking these are either bugged, or will have more use as the game develops.

I know take cover helps, because it reduces the damage by so much. However, I still do not know if Open fire works.

As far as I can tell
(and I too wasted a skill point on this one!)
it saves you having to type "Open Fire! Fire now!"
...that could really take a long time in battle!
especially with the chat censor issues.

Actually, it is kinda like full sail, except, for 4 seconds, if you have a crew on board, it doubles the damage when they hit a ship. It's kinda useless.

hey, I still use it (LOL)
and yet i have seen no effects like "full sail" or extra damage.

"Full Sail" works if you are going one way and keep going that one way and don't turn left or right, even a slight tap. If you turn, you will slow down.

I wish they had a "Don't Fire" skill instead, so if someone's firing at anything and everything when you told them not to, it sends them to jail or something.:xwink:

It looks like to me that this is a lousy skill.:snowball:

How about a Walk the Plank skill for that?

That would be AWESOME, and I'm sure we're not the only ones who think so.

It's mostly used with lightning and fire cannon fire. I've seen it help alot against big ships, i usualy use it when i tell the crew to fire at the masts and then use "open fire" this usualy helps the damage done to the masts. I realy havent seen it do much damage to the hull though maby 25% more damage.

A walk the plank skill would be awsome!

I have and have used both skills (Take Cover, and Open Fire), I didnt get the "Open Fire" skill on my first pirate, and made sure to get it on the next two, I have noticed it make a broadside from my ship do up to 2x more damage than normal. Its recharge rate, and short usage time however makes it a one time per battle option. Looking for skills that make some major noticeable change, and these arent what your looking for. Winning battles isnt all shock and awe.... sometimes the subtle things make all the difference.
