What can you do with Basic Access??

Alrighty folks of POF! I thought I'd make a thread to how you guys what it's like to be a basic level 50. Also show you what we can and can't do. So here we go.
I love Ranking. A pistol and some gators is all you need for me to jump in for a couple hours and put Partners N Crime on the Leaderboards. You CAN do that with basic access. It's actually easy. Get a basic crude pistol, and go to cuba and shoot up some yummy gator meat! Now I know some of you may HATE the fact that people have their lives and sometimes guilds corrupted because of trying to get on the leaderboards. I just do it for the heck of it. it's fun for me to just be able to show everyone what I can do. And also to show myself what I can do. I love ranking. And it truly brings a sense of pride to me.

I also love to SvS. And when you're a basic, you CAN SvS. But it is limited to only Round Shot as a main ammo type. (Chain Shot and Grape Shot do not work as well) Now with infamy out, it is a lot more fun to go to a Spanish or French island and set your ship out to the open waters and see who is the top dog in sea combat! I'm actually happy they let us SvS as a basic because it really is a fun way to get your mind off of whatever is going on, or even if you're bored I know that this will occupy you for a little while.Though you cannot show your badges, it is cool to level it up and buy stuff for when you come across a game card!

If you happen to come across some amazing clothes, it really depends on whether you can wear them or not. You see, as a basic you can only wear crude items. So here are a few things you may find in that loot pouch! (I found these ALL at Darkhart) I personally love to just try on different clothes and possibly find some new ones. It really shows character in a pirate. If you are wearing all black, in my opinion, it hows a little more about the pirates persona if you're wearing a Swabby Shirt and Stowaway Trousers. If you're wearing bright, vivid, and colorful cloths, that shows me two things. One is that you love to party and are very colorful in your personality, and two, well you have a lot of time on your hands to be able to go out there and find all of those clothes that are very hard to find. (ALL bright, Dark Black, Lavender, Navy Blue, Forest Green, and magenta clothing are very rare to find. Keep them if you happen to find one in loot!)

Some things you can't do is Change your hair. Now I really would like to change mine, considering I forgot to change it when I went basic... And well, I had a grey beard!

Questing is always fun to do! Basic access DOES allow questing, but only until a certain point, then it's locked! Like for instance the Black Pearl quest. You can do the quest up until you finish with the first guy who needs to be recruited. Then you are locked until you get access. Also any quests that you are in process of doing will freeze up with basic as well. Here is something I found odd. If you receive a teleport totem quest, no matter how high level you are, you will be able to finish the quest, receive full notoriety points, and the totem.

Some weapons you get will be locked too. Again, anything that is not crude will be locked when you turn basic...

(Yes, two El Patrons *flexes*)
So try and loot as much as possible as a member, because if you're planning on going basic, you'll at least want to look sharp!
Last thing to do really is get gold. Save up for that Ship Of The Line. You will not be given a lower gold cap or be deducted gold because you're a basic access member. So when you hit max, that's it... (200,000 gold) A good way to do that is to play either BlackJack or Poker. Now either of these things will get you some quick gold, but in poker, you can "secretly" transfer gold from a friend to you (or vice versa) in order to help someone, or yourself out! I like blackjack because the games are really quick, fast, and they give you an easy amount of gold.
For Tortuga and Port royal the most you can bet in BlackJack is 50 gold, which is good if you're starting out. BUT if you want to get the "big kahuna" you should go to either Cuba (who's max bet it 250 gold) or Padres Del Fuego (Who's max bet is 500 gold!)
You can also get on to the leaderboards if you play enough of blackjack. You can get on the "Most Hands Won" category.

If You are in Port Royal, Tortuga, or Padres Del Fuego, you might want to check out Cannon Defense. This game doesn't count towards your notoriety, but this mini-game is fun for all levels. Once you get to the higher rounds in this game, you have the possibility of getting a famed cannon ram! Though, as a basic, you cannot use it. Either way, it's always a good thing to have, especially if you are planning on getting Unlimited Access soon!

Dark hart is my buddy. I'm always at Abassa Dark hart if I am not either with guild or helping a friend in need. He gives great loot (See clothes above) and I think he's the best sourse for gold, rep, loot, and a fun time with friends. I've made a lot of friends at Dark Hart in Abassa, so if you ever need to find me, that's probably where I'm at!

In the beginning of 2011, POTCO came out with two more skills that you can master. They include Fishing, and Potion Making. As a basic access member, you can get up to level 7 on potions. You can also make potions like Ghastly Visage, Swift Foot, and many many more!
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...at124301PM.png
With fishing you can also level up to level 7. With fishing you can upgrade your Fishing Rod once to be able to catch fish like Tuna, Black Chimera's and many more!

Now as Davy Fireskull said,
Quote:

As basic, you can still socialize with your guildmates, friends, anyone. It doesn't take anything. Just log in, stand on a beach, and chat with some friends. This never gets boring if you have a great guild.
And I couldn't agree more with him! You see, you DO need to have unlimited access to make the guild itself, but if you are already the GM of a guild you will not be demoted because you are a basic access member. I am the GM of Eternal Warlordz and as a basic I receive the same respect as if I were unlimited. It really depends on what you want to do with the opportunity you have. I personally love that I can play for free and keep tabs on such an amazing group of people. Let me repeat that
You don't have to be basic to run a guild!
I feel that most people now a days are relying on the fact that they need Access to keep playing the game. When in reality I have everything I need in a game right here in Partners N Crime
Now don't get me wrong, there are so many more things to do in the caribbean as a basic access member. But there are just a few that I listed. So, are you willing to play even though you're a basic 50? Most people now are just quitting because they do not have access. It's sad that most are turned off by game because of the restrictions. When in reality, the game is just as fun! Even though I am going to get access here soon, personally I think that being basic is great and you shouldn't be put down for it.

I hoped you enjoyed this this thread!

Thanks for posting this Hookshot! I've never been basic ( except the first day over 2 years ago ) so I only knew what people had told me. We allow basics in our guild and they sometimes complain about having nothing to do. Now I have some recommendations for them :)

ruisen2000 03-30-2011 03:30 PM

I actually like the fixing glitch for svs ships as basic, because I'm no longer booted off ship for being basic (the captains dont want to risk booting me off which might mess up repair) and it feels good to be sailing alongside everyone else =)

Cannonfury 03-30-2011 03:54 PM

I have 9 basics (levels 1,26,37,38,42,50..I cant remember the others lol)and I like it as much as unlimited access.

SEAKING23 03-30-2011 04:17 PM

When i was basic, all i would do is loot and raid for the time i turned into a member. Witch is why my membership started out on a good start becuase of all the gold i had and all the loot.

Well thanks for posting this. I never new being basic is fun, lol.

Would you say that member ship is worth it?

Mr. Awesome 03-30-2011 05:46 PM

I was basic for three months! And I had alot of fun for those three months, but yeah if you can get unlimited access get it! But if you can't rest assured that the "restricted" game you are playing is almost/as fun as the unlimited version!

ruisen2000 03-30-2011 09:35 PM

I hope they unlock more Cannon Defense ammo types for basic tho, since not a lot of ppl play CD, and with so less ammo for basic, a lot of basics get "kicked" out of the match by salty words, which discourages them to even try the game next time.

Hookshot 03-30-2011 11:36 PM

I'm saying that going from unlimited to basic isn't all that bad. Not in my eyes at least

Captain Sharktooth 03-30-2011 11:43 PM

Thanks Hookshot, I have been basic at times, and it was pretty boring. When trading comes, I'll take one of them Patron's off your hand, savvy?

Hookshot 03-30-2011 11:49 PM

Haha only for a big price!

Tiberius Fireskull 03-30-2011 11:59 PM

Hows 150,000 Gold, a Bejeweled Cutlass, and a Bush Master Pistol? I'll throw in some famed knives too for that Patron.

Lol, anway, yes. There is a lot to do as a basic. But I am ashamed of you for forgetting one. GUILD. GUILD GUILD GUILD. Even as basic, you can still socialize with your guildmates, friends, anyone. It doesn't take anything. Just log in, stand on a beach, and chat with some friends. This never gets boring if you have a great guild.

Very good guide mate, you touched on almost everything a basic can do. :)

Hookshot 03-31-2011 01:02 AM

I wrote it down actually. Apologies.

Here is proof!

ruisen2000 03-31-2011 02:30 AM

you missed mini games and battles! (land and sea). :)

Hookshot 03-31-2011 03:33 AM

Goes user getting gold. And I do know that potions are good. And so is the repairing ship.

OKAY it seems there is still work to be done on this thread! I'll be editing it a lot during the next few weeks.
