Muscling in on other people's fights? Your right, pirates are theives so you shouldnt be supprised if someone steals "your" kill. Spawns dont belong to anyone anyway, so nothing is really "yours".

HOWEVER, a captain's word should be law on his ship. People should not be able to TP to your ship without your permission, and if they do something you dont like on your ship, you should be able to make them "walk the plank", which would really be a command that would TP them back to whevever they came from.

I'm utterly baffled by this thought of "Kill Stealing." So far as I can tell (which has been sine beta 1) there is no "tagging" for kills, you still get credit for the kill, you still get the same booty, you might get a wee bit less experience... oh the horror.

Kill Stealing only has validity where the person whose kill was "stolen" won't get credit.

My comment... time to grow up and play the game.
We be pirates after all and the code is more a set of guidelines.

I have no problem taking a flag ship down that someone else has been working on, if i can steal the treasure, I will :) Such the scurvy pirate.

The biggest chuckle I got from a stranger pirate was one time I was standing on the dock just checking out my weapons. Now keep in mind that Disney gave me options and I just chose one. I'm also probably one of the older players in the game.

A female pirate, covered head to toe (must be hot in all that stuff on the islands) came up to me. Said "Put some clothes on"! and TP'd away.

Personally I found that quite amusing and it made me wonder what this person was like in RL.

But ummm yeah....don't take my flag ship please? :D

I sail a galleon and if there is a flag ship or a ship I need for a quest I have no second thoughts on wedging my ship infront of another one so that I cut off their ability to fire on it and take it out for myself. As said before, we're pirates and we're in competion for gold and glory. I had someone call me a name once for doing so, but it's just water off my hull.

LOL An overly modest Pirate? That's funny.
I second the unwritten rule that a Ship's Captains word is law on his/her ship. It's the captain who must pay the gold to have the ship repaired when some uninvited fool gets it sunk. Mind you, I love extra help on me ship. Just ask first, and don't shoot everything in sight.

Playing online as you know you meet a lot of good and bad "characters"; the most odd experience I've had so far on POTCO was some guy in Beta who got on my list, constantly teleported saying he missed me, wanted to hug me and then proceeded to take over my ship to the point of getting us sunk no matter how many times I told him to stop sailing/shooting. ( I was working cannons off the coast of Del Fuego at the time)

Needless to say he was removed from my list immediately. The good thing is, we can avoid the people we want for the most part. The bad thing is, there's always more weirdos out there and you never know who they are until you have an issue. HAHAHA

I've had "noobs" trying to block my path like the poster above, and trying to shoot down my ship, or just sailing around behind my big ship like a little stalker. Easily fixed, just ignore them till they go away, dock or even move to another server.

I don't understand the issue with people being upset at someone helping them take out an enemy. Sometimes I'll jump into a battle if the person looks like they're having a hard time or if I need that enemy also - not like they're losing anything except a couple of extra hit points, which you can pick up on the next enemy. So it takes one or two more times till you get that skill point, what's the big deal? If you die you're not going to get it either ROFL!

Playing online is our break from the real world, so if you're not having a good time move on somewhere else. Don't let other people's stupidity ruin your fun.

I'm very careful about who I friend (Sorry, I won't accept random friend requests.), so I don't mind it when someone teleports to my ship without asking me. (The extra money I get from having a crew is always welcome. ;) )

I am always happy to have someone helping me to take down a ship. Every bit they help means less HP loss for me, and that translates into less expense when it comes to fixing the ship.

I think the rush to get the rights to board a flagship, makes the game more fun! I'm never upset if someone else gets the ship, I'll just go find another one. There's plenty more in the ocean.

The newbie pirates crack me up though. When I launch my big ship there's usually a few light sloops with new players (I assume they're new, with low levels.) in them firing at me. "I'm not a Skeleton ship!". :P

OutlawZ 11-27-2007 07:34 PM

Hey you gotta fire at stuff to see what things you get to damage! LOL

Wow...some great responses here!!
I love the fact that it hasn't filled up with whiners!
I agree with most of you...
its only a game,
alls fair in Love and Pirate World,
and there should be a way to stop people from 'dropping in" if you don't want them
(or maybe booting them from your ship? if they get out of line?)

My "friend's" list is getting huge!
I like everyone and am open to all who want to be my friend!
Most are just newbies looking for helpful "friends".

But I would like to remove some of the "friends" who I no longer interact with...
is there a way to remove "friends" from my list?? I can't see how.

HoistTheColors 11-27-2007 07:39 PM

I used to accept random friend requests in the beginning of the game in case newer members needed help but now that I have random people tping to me for no apparent reason I don't anymore.

~Figment~ 11-27-2007 08:01 PM

I find myself to be a "helpfull" pirate. If you need help and say so in local chat, i will stop and respond. I don't mind when others jump into a fight, I will always accept the help! I find myself still taking random friend requests, but if said pirate is there to cause problems, I simply delete them from my list.

Don't worry, I have created a few enemies out there too, when we see eachother a few insults will be passed around....as any good pirate should be willing to do. But have fun, enjoy, be a pirate. The pirate code is only a guildline.......

The other day there was a (much lower level than myself) pirate hanging out in Ft. Charles who was "kill stealing" from me. This didn't bother me.

What did bother me is that he kept engaging baddies he couldn't take, then leading them over to me while I was fighting other guys, as if I was obligated to help him in some way. Sometimes the guys he'd lead over would start attacking me, creating a situation where I was overwhelmed.

It really became a problem when I put my pirate in a safe place (the hallway out to the stairs leaving the fort), and stepped away from my computer for a minute. When I came back, he'd led a bunch of enemies over who were attacking ME and had almost killed me!

Not cool.
