Which is your favourite kind of ship?
Just wondering which ship everyone prefers (It doesn't matter whether you actually have it or not).
Personally, I prefer frigates, I love the front cannons. Jeena xxXxx |
I like the galleons over the frigates, mainly because I, being a one man crew 99% percent of the time, I'm not worried about a ship with a big crew space. Sure, you get like what, 2-3 more broadsides and 2-3 more crew spaces, but you lose cargo spaces, and that to me's the most important thing on the ship, crew or no crew.

I agree with Jack, I like the galleons for that same reason.
You're not always out there at sea with a crew! |
I used to have the same tendency towards the galleons for the storage space for cargo. But recently I found my battle strategy suffered when on my galleon as opposed to my Frigate.
Typically, I am a lone captain, and the best way to solo stuff in as a lone captain for me seems to be like so. Find target, line up so the broadsides are pointing straight into an oncoming ship, but make sure the ship is out of broadside range. Then, basically fire like crazy on the cannons until the ship gets in broadside range, and as soon as it is in broadside range... Run to the wheel, launch broadsides onto the incoming ship, then run back to the cannons and fire off 2-3 rounds, head back to the broadsides, fire off another round (It should have just finished reloading.) Now, with galleons this is harder, due to less dmg, and sure you may have to dock a little more, but you can generally do more damage, and i find the frigate cannons easier to switch to... I'll tell you what would be nice... if pressing 'shift + f1' -> 'shift + f8' allowed you to jump though the cannon positions on the ship.... heh |
I haven't played much with the Galleon or Frigate. I've enjoyed the speed and maneuverability of the Sloop. Granted, I need to make frequent trips to the dock to unload cargo.

#1 Sloop, #2 Galleon, #3 Frigate
But really it depends on what you are doing. Obviously if I want to get some where fast, or I'm on a quest to kill ships more often I'll take out the sloop. If I want to work on sailing or get some gold I'll take out my galleon. Not really sure where the frigate fits, cause the only real advantage is a couple more crew. But I can have 10 on my galleon and 9 on my sloop so not sure why I even need the Frigate, but I'll have it soon anyways :) |
Frigate holds more crew;
Can Fire Ahead and Behind it; and it also has more broadsides. |

#1 a galleon can fire forward as well. #2 a galleon has more broadsides. |

Didn't realize the galleon had more broadsides though... The main reason I frigate is because I though it did more broadside damage. I lolled at the official site.. http://apps.pirates.go.com/pirates/v...l&mode=pgByUrl Apparently..... Sloop Sleek, fast, and stealthy. Great if your style of pirating involves lightning raids and quicker escapes. The need for speed, however, means sacrificing firepower and cargo capacity. Frigate Sleek, fast, and stealthy. I like using the galleon when I sail alone simply because there's more broadside cannons but lately I've been sailing with a crew.. so I use the frigate cause I don't have to worry about manuevering & shooting when you can hit it dead on.

I picked the galleon, for a few reaons.
I like the cannons in the back of the ship, easier to control while the boat is moving. It holds a fair amount of cargo. It has pretty good amount of health, good for collecting good cargo! ~Cpt.Sea |
I play solo most of the time, so nothing can beat the broadsides of a galleon.

Couldn't wait to earn enough gold and move up to the Frigate!
Loved it at first...bigger! higher hull numbers! more deck cannons! and that fore deck with the forward facing cannons! Just love sitting in Port, and firing those forward cannons and sinking ships without actually going to sea! But after a while, I realized, this ship just isn't as maneouvarable as the Galleon. Just not as quick or agile to turn. And why is it getting sunk so often? I never sank so much in my Galleon. And...I am so sick of spawning on the middle deck!! Gotta turn around, find the stairs, climb to the upper deck, and it always lags going up the stairs! I am so glad to be back in my Galleon!! I sold that friggin' Frigate! Now, its just a matter of time, before I have enough Gold to purchase a War Galleon!! |
The Sloop is my main ship. Enough cargo holds and cannons for broadsides.
I usually sail solo and switch between sailing/broadsides and shooting with a cannon to get their attention. Switching back to sailing on Frigates or Galleons means I have to run up some stairs to target the wheel. On a Sloop, everything is on 1 deck and easy to access. Cannon shot the high level ships down to low remaining hull integrity and switch to broadsides to finish it off! -) And for some reason, it just feels 'right' to broadside a ship after you've boarded and defeated the crew. Done with it...time to sink it! Arrr! ~glub~glub~ Toodles, Dolnor Numbwit Ruthless Arr-bie |
Wow, lots of people picked the galleon, I would've thought the Frigate would've won hands down.
I actually have changed my mind, I love the sloop's speed. X |
