War Frigate [ ]

All in all I must say I enjoy the Galleon and the Sloop more than frigates, guess it's my personal play style.

*laughs* My galleons name is the Shadow Titan too..

Good luck saving for the war frigate. I've owned a regular frigate for about a week, maybe more, and it just got on my nerves after a while.

How did you save up for those? Tell me your secret. :P

Thalore 11-17-2007 03:36 PM

Saving for them isn't very hard, there isn't much to spend gold on besides ships really.

The frigate was the last on my list not because it was the most expensive, but because I prefer the sloop and the galleon over it.

Sailing a lot against high level ships and getting Royal Treasures is a great way to make money... For me War Lords are the best loot to difficulty ratio. Juggernaughts are still tough and I don't notice a huge difference in loot.

Indeed the gold collecting is not terribly difficult, depending of course on your notariety and sailing/cannon levels. Of the two top end war-class ships, speaking of the Galleon and Frigate, I find each to have strengths and weaknesses that make them each suitable to certain purposes. For solo hunting, or hunting with a single gunner, I find the Galleon more useful, strictly from the size of the cargo hold and power of the broadside. With 2 or more gunners, I sail the Frigate (yes, I own both) for the fore-facing guns. The target is half dead before we get into broadside range, and a single broadside is enough usually to sink whatever mark we're after ('cept those ******* juggernauts of course). Having max'd both sailing and cannon, most of my trips out have one of two purposes: acquiring wealth for myself or crew, or assisting with leveling those skills for others.

One side note I'd point out is that anyone can drive the boat once its lauched, so I sit on the cannon and let guildies/crew rack up the sailing xp with the stronger broadsides of the war ships against whatever level target max's the xp gain. It is also important to note, for those who don't already know, that you can max both cannon xp gain *and* sailing xp gain on the same kill (220xp is it?) by positioning yourself appropriately.

ORLY?

Must try that sometime

Best way to do it, is tell your crew to not use the cannons closest to your left/right.

Also tell your crew to shoot for the sails. And when you are firing the cannons go for the sails. Once the sails are down, you simply need to broadside.

Yeah, I do use that tactic a bit, but someone will always grab it and I have to fake them out to jump to the other side to grab the cannon I want. Captain should be able to take any cannon he feels like IMHO.

Sail shooting you say? So they are dead in the water?
I was under the impression that it took roughly the same amount of shots to take the sail down as opposed to the whole ship. I'll have a look tonight, but I think you might be onto something :)

I primarily sail the Sloop because I prefer the speed and handling. I've been experimenting with a Galleon lately for the extra armor and broadside capabilities.

Congrats to the OP on acquiring the War Sloop and War Galleon.

I have the war galleon and the war frigate, but not the war sloop yet (saved that for last). I still think the war galleon is the best craft in the game because of the balance of speed, power, hull, and cargo room.

I must say that right now I pretty much only use my war frigate as I'm maxed on sailing and still often play alone. What I do now is take my war frigate out near padre, find a fairly open area, and jump off the sail to the cannons and solo the big guys there. The war frigate is best of this type of solo because it can take the most hull damage (for those pesky close spawns) and has the most cannons on it. You can shoot in every direction except directly behind you. Just can't match it with any other boat.

For now my 3rd boat is a light sloop I use when I just want to get to an island fast and don't care to fight, or when I want a challenge and take it to go after war ships lol.

Thalore 11-30-2007 12:10 AM

Yeah I'm enjoying the War Frigate's cannons as well. I'm also maxed in Sailing so don't really need the broadsides.

I personally think there are advantages to all of them...

Sloops - If you want to get somewhere fast. If you want to take out or hunt specific targets (ie. Corvette's, Bulwarks, etc.) it's by far the best ship. Really I'd say for all around leveling it's the better ship.

Galleon - My fav. mainly because of the broadsides. It has the most broadsides of any ship, which means if you know how to use them well you will be a terror at sea. It also holds the most cargo (by a lot!) of any other ship. If I'm in no hurry and want to get some gold this is the ship I'd always take out.

Frigate - This beast can take a hit or 2 with out breaking a sweat. I love using this ship for working on my cannons when I'm alone. This ship holds the most crew, and if you can put together a good crew, you'll destroy ships faster than a ... you get the point :laughks2:

All in all, having all the ships really is the best way to go. You just pick what type of fun you are going to be having that time out and set sail! :wheel:

Wow, you get gold FAST!

ScurvyCory 12-02-2007 04:28 AM

Hehe, I've been working on doing what you've just done. I only have the War Frigate right now, but when I get another 60k, I'll be able to buy both.

OFF TOPIC= Hey, just saw you two-three hours ago sailing in your War Frigate! :wheel:

ON TOPIC= I'm not much of a gold maker, so it might take a while until I can get a boat I like.
