In Game Chat

Does anyone else find this semi-frustrating?

I find many aspects terribly inconvenient, especially the whole sending whispers to people. I wish I could just be like "/whisper Mrpirate hey how you" or something. Instead of clicking all they way on friends and then whisper. And then sometimes even when my chat box *says* I'm going to send a whisper to someone, it still sends it locally or to my guild.
And when people send me whispers...the website tells me to click on the whisper message to send one back...but that does nothing for me.

Right now, potc isn't very chat friendly...and sometimes I can't type a phrase and there is nothing bad in it. Bleh :( They should just make a filter for bad words that just change them into something else.

Sorry! lol all my frustration just poured out.

I second that, it's very annoying. I'd like to see local chat like toontown, just start typing and it goes right to your bubble. No clicking the damn enter key every two seconds. Sheesh if I get asked a question the people are gone before I can get the answer out...and there's no way you have time to yell "help" in battle, or ask if someone needs help as you run by. Like we can stop at every person, hit enter and ask...lol

My friends must think I'm ignoring them half the time, but I can't talk while in battle and it's even difficult while playing cards; maybe I'll eventually get better at it, but I've been playing since Beta 1 and haven't improved much yet!

I agree with you that entering the chat is too annoying to even bother to press enter. The only thing I like about chat is that we don't have to "Secret friend"(like on Toontown) to chat with them freely. This is one of the reasons I play POTCO but it gets very frustrating.

Eh, the chat takes some getting used to. I've forgotten to press enter first and ended up opening my map or taking a tonic by mistake....LOL But I'm super happy that I can chat with anyone, anytime, without a stinkin SF code. It' makes it a lot easier (since we're all beginers) to get help finding quest items :)

Maybe when I get the hang of this game I'll think differently, but for now, it's been very helpful

It is better than the stupid secret friend codes and people need to get used to it but it needs to have a better way to get accessed. Sometimes I hit enter and it doesn't go through and I accidentally drink a tonic when I am at full health. *Needs to get fixed*

I agree, that it needs to be changed, that is. The worst chat experiences for me are always when I am trying to direct my crew to shoot at a particular ship or to hold fire when I am badly damaged (not sure why I have to explain that to people, but that's another story). I try to hit enter and I usually end up taking a tonic, opening my weapons menu, changing to my journal, and sixteen other things before I can actually say what I wanted to in the first place. And usually, by that time we have been sunk

Frustrating to the nth degree....

You said a bad word o_o

This is a major problem for me, because I run on a basic version, so I get lag, and it takes a while to type all of it, and sometimes, because I didn't click the right button, OH NOES! TONIC! *glug*

I rarely talk during battle, so the battle to speaking ratio really doesn't bother me. If they could add a task thing like in toontown "such as saying "I need to visit theif's den"" because for some friggin reason den is innapropriate for children who lie about their age and have no exposure to today's pop culture.

This didn't make and sense? PM me..

I don't really have a problem talking while in groups. (pressing enter then enter again at the end) I guess I''m just used to it from other MMO's. But, what might be good for those of you that do, try using Teamspeak or ventrillo. I think it'd be great while sailing esp. "Man O' War on the port side, fire!!!"

I agree with you guys about the chat as well. Very frustrating.

My major frustration is typing a message and after you press enter, it doesn't show up, because something you typed in your msg wasn't approved by their filters. And then having to break down the msg in pieces to find which word it doesn't approve of.

To bypass this I started using the dictionary chat or what Disney call SpeedChat Plus. Right beside the Skull Button in the chat window, you will see the Right Arrow. If you click on it, it changes to a +. This means you are in dictionary mode. What this does is highlight the words that are not approved by their filters, in red, so you can see what is not approved before you send it.

Helps quite a bit.

Yeah that speed chat stuff.... doesn't make sense as well sometimes. I've tried using it and it said that "distracted" was a bad word. But then when I turned it off I could type and send the word "distracted". Kinda odd :/

I know team speak and ventrilo are options but sometimes people don't have access to that stuff or have issues with it

This is the most frustrating chat system i have ever seen.

First of all the hitting enter before chatting. So many times i just start typing, the whole inventory flips out, i drink a potion (hitting T) and so on. :degen:
Second even more annoying is the whisper. First time you choose it, it works fine but afterwards and in replies i am always talking in local. You see people think, what is she saying....

If they could change this it would make people more confortable. I hardly ever use whisper cause it always goes wrong.

HaveAMagicalDay 11-11-2007 03:44 AM

I agree with that, it should be a shorter way to do this, and I hate the guild chat sometimes. Sometimes I want local, or crew, but it's still in guild.
