Chat Options...

I've been looking around the chat settings for the option that lets you talk openly so I can see what my friends are saying (instead of it saying "arrrrg"). Other pirates have this enabled, but I just can't figure out where this option is.

Before you ask- I do know how to change the settings, so getting there is not an issue. I just need to figure out which option it is.

Would anyone lend me a hand and explain how to activate this? Hopefully it is not THAT obvious. :psmiley35:

Alright try checking unlimited friends first and see what happens but wait a hour though. If not ring up the game, pretend you put in the wrong year birthday and want it changed, and you want open chat. Then check the Account control then do Unlimited friends I think and you will get it. Hopes this help! :)

POST SCRIPT: Go to Contact Us for their number and go to the bottom for the number it says next to it Account Controls I think but you know what I mean. :D

I think they should destroy the difference between the speed chat and the normal chat.

Turning off Speed Chat can only be done via the Pirates Online website and the account must be Unlimited.

I have my open chat settings on, as I play TTonline and need those. I am a member with unlimited as well. Once again, I know where the settings are, I just don't know which setting you have to choose in order to see the "arrrgs". ............I don't want to call Disney, but I may go to live chat if I can't figure it out.

So you turn off speedchat? I'll go try that. Thank you for your answer.

Well, I just called Disney when I wanted Open Chat. I used have my settings at Speedchat Plus. Then, they just changed it for us. Obviously, I don't know their number off the top of my head, but go ahead and call Disney, and they should change it for ya.

Speed Chat Plus = words not on the white list are replaced with "arr" or "garr"

Open Chat = no arr or garr when only Open Chat users are around you, in crew with you, or in Guild with you. However, if a Speed Chat Plus pirate is standing within view of your compass, in crew with you, or in guild with you, your Open Chat will be blocked from going through if it contains any words not in the white list. It will be blocked without warning, it will look like the message was sent, but nobody will receive it. (So if you feel you are being ignored, make sure your chat does not have any italicized words in it)

Open Chat is only available if when you created your account you gave a birthdate indicating you are 13 or older. To activate Open Chat (on a 13+ account), on the Disney webpage, go into Manage Account, on the Community Settings tab put a check mark next to where it says "Any Disney Member"

I believe an account identified as belonging to an adult can activate Open Chat on an account belonging to someone under 13 if that adult links to the child's account in the account manager, but I have not tried that so I do not know for sure.

Enabling Open Chat for "Any Disney member" doesn't work for me for some reason. I am above that age as well. My overall account (for TT and POTCO) was created before I was, so I could just have this problem because of that.

It doesn't give me an option to type in a parent password when I want it to be enabled - just says:

"OpenChat With Any Disney Member is automatically granted to adults and teens. Because this chat setting is not available in Pirates, it is not currently possible to edit this setting using Pirates Account Manager."

Must I disable Unlimited TFs to enable this? Or Something else?

Very nice to know about the "arrrs" being there when sc+ pirates are around. I may not be crazy after all.

JeffreyHookgrin 01-12-2011 12:47 AM

hmmm, I have just the opposite effect. I do not have Toon Town, I can turn on and off Open Chat with Any Disney Member but it tells me the True Friends are not available in Pirates.

Sounds like you may need to make a call to customer service to get it straightened out.

Thank you for the helpful posts, I will contact them about this again and hopefully everything can get sorted out.

If people have speed chat, then most words that they say will be "Arrgh". That's not your fault, but theirs.

As for the filtering part, that is not true. That is what it used to be if there were speedchat people nearby. Now, just the word gets filtered as arrr yarr garr. That is if the word is not in their dictionary. If it is on their "black list" then the whole speech you sent does not go through to ANYONE, regardless of open or speedchat.

On a slightly side note, am I the only one that things Speedchat (not Speedchat Plus) harms the game? Some people downgrade their child to using Speedchat, which makes it so that they can ONLY enter phrases that are prewritten (the list of speech phrases for quests, sea combat, etc). If someone who is Speedchat is following you, you can't tell them to go away because they won't get the chat. You can't say anything to them except for things like "Shiver Me Timbers!". Is it just me, or does this harm the nonSpeedchat players? I've had a few encounters with them, and it is really hard communicating.

I am above the age limit, however Disneyvstill requires parental approval to switch to Open chat. Create another account and put that you are at least 18. Then link the accounts, with the new one being the parental one. You must then log in athe parent account and change the settings of the younger account through that control panel.

Hope this works.
