When do you think POTCO ends?

You know, POTCO has to shut down due to, too many players quitting ect. Therefore Potco cant make as much money as they use to. With POTCO promising the Kraken, 2nd story chapter, and much more stuff that has never came. Then people quit, therefore no more money for Potco. Then they call it quits. (OR) Potco just ends on a good note. Discuss...

I'd have to go with the Mayans on this one. 2012 POTCO will cease to exist as will everything else. The clock is ticking...........

Just pulling your leg. POTCO will go on as long as we keep paying for it. Disney always seem to rally to gain new members, and the cycle continues.

Captain Del 01-02-2011 03:47 PM

Actually, I would predict that more people are joining POTCO than leaving, seeing as how we hardly see a "Goodbye" thread around these forums anymore. Plus, I know a lot of my guildies got Unlimited for Christmas.

I don't see POTCO ending for a while. This game definately has potential, and I see that Disney is finally learning how to captalize on that, with the amount of updates we've been getting (after all, you can't say that the game hasn't been updated in a while.) Maybe it's the fact that I'd hate to see it go, but it really looks like this game finally dug itself out of the pit. A thread like this definately isn't appropiate for whats going on in game at the moment.

Honestly, to me it seems like everyone who masters. usually leaves the game a few months after, because potco hasnt really focused much on coming out with updates that can keep masters interested for a long time.

SEAKING23 01-02-2011 05:06 PM

I'm mastered, and i'm having a great time because i don't have to worry about rep, so i can go any where i want. Plus, the promise of loot keeps me in the game.

Loot is about the sole incentive this game has, and if you really look deep down into the weapons and items you get, they are practically all the same, and mean nothing more than other weapons. Loot and clothing aren't going to keep true gamers around. Real gamers move onto something that gets updates regularly and a company that keeps its promises within a 2 year distance of when they announce it will be in game. So far the only thing I have ever wanted more out of this game were enhanced skills, enhanced quests, more chapters, and possibly a Kraken. Fishing and Potion making isn't exactly what I would call an advanced. I would expect this game to have already been dead for now, if it weren't aimed for kids and adults with young children.

The family environment is rather nice and draws in more fans daily, but in all honesty I see nothing big out of this game as of yet.

I'd say it is hard to know when... MMOs are a fairly new concept, and none have really ended yet. POTCO may last till 2100 or later, or it may end in four years or so. Also, I don't think they would just terminate the game if they did get near bankrupcy, they might b able to sell it to another company.

SEAKING23 01-11-2011 01:10 AM

I think the actual concept of the game is what makes it great. You are a poor pirate who starts with nothing, then fights and quests his name up to the top, and fight for freedom along the way, and once your maxed. And meeting new people and making friends doesn't hurt ether. if Disney would stop being lazy and start making new updates and content, and maybe a never ending quest for level 50s, they would be rich.

You have to understand that they are NOT being lazy. Creating let alone updating a game requires some time and a lot of work. At the moment POTCO has a pretty small team of developers, so a big update would usually take a couple months between planning and creating to release on the test server. No one but the developers knows what goes on behind those doors, so we can't just assume that they are being lazy or not even trying. Give them some time. And besides, Disney is already freakin' rich man, they could probably buy a small town for all we know.

SEAKING23 01-11-2011 02:49 AM

They are being lazy by not hiring more workers.

I just did the math. lets say POTCO has 700000 unlimited members. Member ship is 9.95 a month, so that means they make 69650000 dollars a month. if they have 100 developers, and spilt it evenly, each will receive 696500 dollars a month. in a year that 836800 dollars. thats enough to buy a house!!

pieisbetter2 01-11-2011 03:06 AM

That is very true, but I believe the POTCO developer team is just barely over 20 people if I recall. And they can't hire just anyone off the streets. Like I said before putting a game together requires experience and work. So there is just a small area of people that they can hire. I'd like to see you pull together a group of friends and throw together a game that has reached the status that POTCO has. It's complicated.

Tiberius Fireskull 01-11-2011 03:07 AM

But you forgot all of the rest of their workers, and the price to keep the game up and running. Disney also probably demands a portion of the payment, or they will drop them. Then of course they need to spend a ton of that money on updates... Then there is keeping their servers up, and maybe they sponsor some other companies... Probably also have to pay rent for wherever they stay. Man, I could go on and on.

All in all, they do NOT make 836 big ones a month. I'm sure that if each developer got that much, they would just hire a ton more. There are a ton more costs that I can't even think of! Running a business is not easy.

Not necessarily.

All memberships are paid through credit cards, with 3 subscription options: Once a Month, Once Ever 6 Months, and Once Every Year. For math's sake, we'll use your number of 700k, and the options are divided evenly amongst these subscribers. That means there is about 233,333 people per subscription option.

For all of those that have the monthly $10 subscription, that would mean $2,333,333.30 of income for POTCO. For the semi-annuals, that means $11,666,650.00, and for annuals, that would mean $18,666,640.00. Over the course of a year, the monthly's would amount to $27,999,999.60 a year, and for the semi's, that would mean $23,333,300.00. Adding up all net totals together would make a yearly net income for the game at $69,999,939.00.

Now, before you all scream "Money hoggers!," this is where other interests come in.

We need to factor in to that net pay all sorts of deductions: state taxes, federal taxes, taxes by the credit card companies, money for keeping the servers open, money for designating space for the site, taxes on both of those, collections by corporate Disney, and probably dozens of other things I can't name off the top of my head. Taxes are EVERYWHERE!

Taking all of that in to account, you would realize the budget for this game, when factoring in paying for the developers, is ALOT lower than most games. Also, I noticed a lot of you are screaming "Disney has a bazillion dollars!" Yes, Disney as an overall empire does, but you need to realize corporate Disney couldn't care less about funding this game, when they had television networks and theme parks to run.

In terms of staying with the game, even if I didn't have all my amazing guild members and friends (and fans ) I would probably still be here, just because 1. The imagination is a wonderful thing, and 2. With the amount of updates Disney has been pumping out in comparison to 2008, you can't say they're being slow.

SEAKING23 01-11-2011 03:21 AM

I really think diseny has to recognized POTCo as a marketing tool. They really should hire more people. its worth it.
