Sailing and gunning skill requirement?

I like sailing and gunning and at the moment it's whats keeping in the game(mostly in SvS)
What do you think requires the most sailing and/or gunning skill?

-Ship of the line (sinking the EITC/Navy treasure fleets)
-Privateering/SvS
-Plundering (sinking Navy/EITC/ Sceleton ships)
-Cannon Defense
All opinions matter so please share:pirate2:
Thank You:pirate2wn0:

Well my first thought would be SvS, having to swich to each side trying to think what the person might be thinking is of course much harder then fighting a computer. But you can get a whole crew of people with just say Fury shooting randomly and you will sink 90% of ships. But Cannon Defence, everyone starts with Lvl 1 so you have to know how to shoot a cannon and hit directly with Round Shot. And you can only have 4 people on a game, so that is more work each person has to do. So I choose you need the best cannon skills for Cannon Defence.

Cannon defense can be hard, unless of course you use the auto direct ammo...

plundering is not hard, as long as you have the right ship and right crew

idk what you mean by ship of the line, we don't have access to those ships yet

svs....is hard because you are going against actual human players.

Ben Lockshot 12-01-2010 05:15 PM

I think he means Ship of the Line as the EITC and Navy Fleets that try to go to Ravens cove to get the weapons.

Cannonfury 12-01-2010 06:42 PM

ok...in that case I would say ship of the line..

seafox 12-01-2010 07:51 PM

well , of course, I would say privateering.

The fleet invasions are hard, but if you do enough of them you learn you just need distance out from the bow or the rear of the ship of the line..a war frigate and a crew with good ammo and skill can take these down . Remember to repair often or port and put out again if you take heavy damage.

Cannon Defense is lengthy more than hard. Equip a gunners ram if you have one b4 you enter and use all the preparedness tips Igor has already posted. Aiming is different from cannoning in game so that is a challenge but you pick that up after a few times.

Plundering, again, use distance...let the ships roll into you..they will line up and sail bow first towards your ship(the exception being a few rogue ones with an attitude).

Privateering, or ship pvp, takes more skills....you can't always have a crew with maxxed fury..and you might even have to solo. Your enemies and their skill levels and abilities always change. The human factor always influences the outcome.

I'll go with privateering because it take takes a lot of skill and strategy to be good at privateering. In addition to just mastering ur sailing and gunning you need a lot of good aim and sailing skill and i know this because i used to think svs was real easy. ALL YOU GUYS WHO JUST SAY ALL YOU NEED IS "FURY GUNNERS" YOU ARE WRONG AND YOU SHOULD TRY PRIVATEERING IND ANDABA AND ABASSA SOMETIMES BECAUSE THATS WHERE THE REAL SVS IS.

swordshot 12-01-2010 11:11 PM

cannon defense is hard

I'd just like to point out, although I never really SvS anymore, I still manage to take out my guildies out a few times, most of whom never SvS. Give us about half an hour, and see what we can do, with "just fury gunners" ;)

I'm gonna have to go with Cannon Defense. It's not so much that it's as hard as SvSing physically, but, like running a marathon, it's 50% physical ability, 50% mental ability. In SvS, you could call somebody in to take your spot so you can take a break. No can do in CD. You need to buckle down and get ready right there.

seafox 12-02-2010 12:41 AM

Well, actually Del...we use backup players in CD. I have pitiful internet, so level 64 is now my highest level without a dc. Also, we use the backup players and try to leave CD before a halfway mark to belay a runtime error which happens now to most players after a while.

Captain Sharktooth 12-02-2010 12:46 AM

I'll go with Cannon Defense, it requires a lot patience and skill. After about the 20th wave or so (I don't really play much so that is where it gets hard for me) it can get really hard and frustrating.

Dog Firestack 12-02-2010 01:07 AM

Cannon defense.

102 waves and without a single break is pretty hard, where SvS you can take a break.

leo 12-02-2010 01:28 AM

I realized i didn't answer my own question.
Plundering is easiest as i think everyone can sink about 50 EITC or navy ships without even Porting.

Sinking the ship of the line is still plundering basically but just a little harder and i've sunk all the ships in one war frigate svs crew.

Down to SvS and Cannon defense. Cannon Defense requires a lot of PATIENCE but i see that dog made it to 102 and i have svs friends who made it above 100 many times. If you are good at SvS you are good at cannon defense because all it requires is time an some type of ammo usage strategy and good aim.
The reason Privateering and not Cannon defense is because:
-SvS requires a good crew meaning not just fury crew but skillful crew
-Its against other players instead of computer
-If you want to show your good you are going to be in SvS for more than 3 hours without knowing it
-You need a good strategy of attack and teamwork
-It Involves sailing plus gunning
-Aiming is harder in SvS as you have to shoot from close range to very long range where both ships are on movement.(cannon defense you shoot form same place)
-and every svser i know is good at cannon defense but not every cannon defense player i know is good at SvS

CarribeanThunder 12-02-2010 03:25 AM

I'd say it's between the Ship of the Line (it should have been Fleets in general) and Privateering, but I think Ship of the Line would be my choice. I chose this beast because of the fact that breaking its sails doesn't really do anything, and its deck guns fire twice - meaning that if it has 7 cannons on a side, and those cannons fire twice, you will be slaughtered with 14 incoming cannonballs. Might not be that bad if it's coming from the HMS Newcastle - Chainshot is pathetic unless it manages to hit your sails, and its Firebrand barely does anything, but if you get the HMS Invincible's 14 Explosive cannons, then it really will not end well. Plus, they take forever to sink.

Alone with only broadsides, treasure fleet is hard and would take forever but i have done Fleet with only one svs crew in less than 10 minutes- thats how strong svs crews are and thats how much skill they have
