The Curse of 85%!
Hey! I just installed my son's computer with POTC online. Unfortunately, every time it gets to 85% loading, I get an error. I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro (computer needed it anyhow), did all the critical updates, updated drivers, etc. Reinstalled POTC, hit 85% and it errored out again!
This is an AMD Athlon 1.14 GHz with 512 MB of RAM. It has a Radeon 7000 64 MB video card (I did try an Nvidia 32 MB GeForce and an ATI Rage Fury 32 MB and neither of them worked, either), an SIS 900 PCI ethernet (on MB) and an SIS 7018 Audio card (on MB). I did a speedtest.net and get 8.12 MB Up, .98 MB Down with a Ping of 75 ms. I am running Google Chrome (if it matters) and have Direct X 9.0c installed. I found a thread that talked about creating a file named "game_options.txt". I followed that and still get errored out. I've tweaked the settings on startup from OpenGL to DirectX 9.0 and then DirectX 8.0. Still hit 85% and fail. I don't get any explanation of the error, I just get a "Would you like to send a report" and get to fill out the information form to submit to Disney. (I haven't heard back yet.) I realize this is not the most powerful computer, but it does meet the minimum specs and my son would love to be able to play. If there is any more information you require, please let me know. I'm hoping it's something obvious. |
I don't begin to understand what in the world you just said in terms of specs. I will tell you this. Disney will say the problem exists in your computer and they have no power to fix it. Jaded but been told that twice myself.
Also, 85% seems to be some sort of critical barrier. Every time I stall out on a load screen it's 85%. Not sure why. It's the original load to the pick a pirate, the first landing in game, and a few tps, depending on if I'm going somewhere with an awful lot of lag. It just seems that 85% is some sort of marker for the game, where if you pass it you're in, and if you don't you could still get the boot. :P |
Mine pauses at 85%, something goes on at that point, but I am not sure what. You may need to install the latest version of DirectX if you are using that, or maybe download and install the latest C Runtime files.
Submit a bug report with your log files attached, they may help them see what is failing at that point. If their email response is less than helpful (they usually are) call them, some of them are knowledgable. If the one you get is not, call again. |
Seem ur pirates stuck at something,.. it happen to my friend. since Raven cove update his pirate mix with test server and fixed it by copying launcher.exe from test server to live server game,. dunno if its work for u,. happy trying..

ik i hate the 85% i would just download again and see if anything happens
|
this happened to me before try switching web browsers that fixed it for me it should work try fire fox or safari chrome and opera are not so good for anything involving a download.
|
It happens to me too on a Mac, I always yell and cruse at the screen and that gets me past that barrier every time. It works somehow.
|
Happened to me before, delete potc online and then redownload it. then u go on and it'll work. (only do this if u may have to take the risk of never seing a page of potco site ever again! only the blogs)

85% usually is where unstable things are. Wrecked graphics, crashed libraries, etc. Just re-install, works like a charm.
|
For me, when I hit 85%, then I know I'm finished loading... 0.o
|
dont worry try to re stall it !!!!!!!!!!!! lol
|
well when i hit 85% im either golden or it says not reasponding and it gives me three options 1. send error report 2. restart program 3. wait for program to respond i put wait for program to respond and it works like a charm after a few seconds or mins of waiting i have windos vita core 2 duo i think it might be just my computer that gives me the options or its a different kind of thing

If you are using a browser, try the launcher. If you are using the launcher, try the browser.
If this does not work, then in the launcher, there is a button that says "Graphic Options." Try the two other choices. Something is not loading correctly, and the game is not specifying what that is. Also, when the game crashes, does a "Report Bug" window pop up? if so, then try looking around in the Log Files. It should tell you what went wrong. Good luck! ~Chris Ironhawk |
