Reputation bottles?

What at those little reputation bottles on your right of the post? Plus how do you earn those?

Tiberius Fireskull 11-08-2010 03:14 AM

Well, when you see someone who makes a very good, helpful, or thoughtful post, you go to the little exclamation mark next to the report post button. You can add a little comment in, and they get a few reputation points. As you get more reputation points, the amount of bottles increases. Basically, you will earn them if someone thinks your post was really good. A mod could probably explain it slightly better though.

Those reputation bottles are exactly as you said mate, reputation bottles. They're part of are reputation system here on POF, which you can read about extensively in this helpful guide. (Or below, as I have quoted the section pertaining to Reputation.)

In the corner of everyones user names you see this.

The persons current reputation is the rum bottle.

To add to the rep press the button with the check and an X.

There are multiple signs and meanings
Here they all are
http://i26.tinypic.com/2s9w0na.gif Highly negative
http://i28.tinypic.com/pomxi.gif High postion
http://i25.tinypic.com/2qn4ci1.gif Negative
http://i25.tinypic.com/2hdqfle.gif Reputation Off
http://i25.tinypic.com/2re31y1.gif Reputation Positive
http://i27.tinypic.com/rtjjno.gif Balanced

RULES: Only give reputation if you find the post helpful, not as something to do for a friend.

A small change to what the guide says, you can add to a users rep by pressing this button: http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...reputation.gif Also, we only allow users to give positive reputation, and only Evil Kid Bugs has negative reputation... silly little rabbit. Lastly, it should be noted that there are a few rules about reputation, which although are rarely an issue, go for all of the sites.

Quote:

Rules for Reputation
"Reputation System Misuse" - The Reputation system allows our members to leave comments about one anothers posts, and thereby contribute to their overall 'reputation'. The following uses of the Reputation System on this site are not allowed:

Reputation Fraud: Creating multiple accounts to give positive reputation to other members or your own account. Soliciting other members/friends to give mass positive reputation to your account or another user's account is also fraud.

Reputation Comments: Giving personal information through reputation comments or trolling/flaming. Our policies still apply for reputation comments and will be dealt with the same as if their comments were PMed to a user. If you obtain any reputation comments that violate any of our policies, then you should contact a mod about this immediately.

Reputation Begging: The act of requesting reputation from other users is called reputation begging. This also includes Signatures, Titles, PM's, posts containing requests or encouragement to give you or another user positive or negative reputation points.

Reputation Bribery: The act of requesting reputation in trade for something is called reputation bribery.

Reputation Pity: The act of posting sad comments about their reputation so other users feel sorry for them so that they will give them reputations is called pity reputation.

Jack, I don't exactly understand the different types of bottles, other than the disabled rep one. If you don't mind, could you quickly go over what each type of bottle means in a little more detail, and how you can give a certain one?

Sorry :P Thanks in advance.

titanic95594 11-08-2010 04:17 AM

Wow, never knew it got put on a thread! I was wondering how you get these.

Jack I 11-08-2010 05:46 AM

There is no particular way to give a certain bottle, but rather it all depends on your reputation and reputation power.

Your reputation determines which bottles will be present on your userinfo.
  • After 5 positive rep bottles you will start gaining highly positive rep bottles instead.
  • Likewise, if you are really evil like EKB, you will start receiving highly negative rep bottles after 5 negative rep bottles... but no-one else is that evil.
  • If a users reputation balances out at 0, the user will have balanced reputation.
  • If a user has turned their reputation off, it will show as disabled.

The more reputation you gain, the more bottles you will receive and the higher your reputation power will become. People with higher reputation power have a stronger influence when they give a user positive rep. Now, as for what the specifics are for a user to gain a new bottle and for their reputation title to change, those are shrouded in mystery... but really, I do not know.

Would it be perhaps after 100 reputation points that you get another bottle? /shrug.

Thanks Jack, that clears it up.

Here's a link to my old reputation thread where I asked a similar question.

Um.. quick question about rep again...

So, I noticed that when I hit 1,000 posts and I went to my recent rep gained chart, it showed something like this. It said +k and N/A for the thread. I think I got 50 rep from it. Do you get 50 rep points for every 1,000 posts then?

And yes, I know not to give spammy posts just for rep if this is true. :)

Also, is there any way to get negative rep bottles? Like if EKB were to give me rep? And if I got a negative rep bottle would that take away from what rep I have right now?

Sorry, I think I asked about 5 questions xD. I'm just curious to know.

There are ways other than having someone rep you, to obtain reputation points. Not something that we advertise for reasons like you stated above. Someone goes on a rampage posting spam posts and they could obtain additional rep for this, for example. But the more you use the forums, the more rep you can obtain..is all I'm going to say about this topic.:psmiley35:

Only POF staff members and evil bunnies can give negative rep. Negative rep is very rarely given. Begging for reputation from others, is one of the few ways to get negative rep points. Becareful of what you ask for..:laughks2: To obtain a negative rep bottle, your rep would have to be below -10. Right now, I'm sure you are in the positive points. So all those would have to be negated by negative rep before you could get the negative bottles.

Wow.....this is all good to know...thanks for asking Titanic!
I often wondered what all those rum bottles meant.

I also would like to know how you go about the number of postings?
How you get that number? And where do you post? Sorry for being stupid on this stuff...

titanic95594 01-05-2011 12:46 AM

Number of posts? I don't see a limit on that, and where do you post? Well you just posted right there! ;)

Ok so I got a reputation point but it came in the form of a Blue Bottle. I know that means balanced, but I don't really get what it truly means. Thanks.

EDIT: Wait, never mind. I figured it out. :D

http://i27.tinypic.com/rtjjno.gif Balanced = Didn't have enough rep or dereps to effect your reputation either way.
