Must be the mouse gods. They demand a sacrifice of 100 wheels of cheese, or you shall be banished to the Fortress of the Moles. :laughks2:

Seriously, I dunno what the problem is. :\

You may have a corrupted file in the Cache:

Delete the Cache folder (same location as your screenshots folder) and then attempt to start the game.

Recent Update may be causing your firewall to block the newer version:

Go into your firewall and locate the list of trusted programs, or whatever your firewall program calls it. If launcher.exe and/or pirates_online.exe are shown there, remove them. Then add both back to the list by browsing to them (consult your firewall's instruction as to the exact steps to do that, they vary from brand to brand). They are located in the same folder as the cache. (assumes you are using desktop version and not browser version)

The downloaded update file may have been corrupted:

Go to the list of installed programs and uninstall pirates, then re-download the game and install it.

If that does not work you may need to update either your directX or C++ runtime libraries.

If that doesn't work, it's time for a phone call to Customer Service.

You should probably delete the cache regularly, just like an Internet Service. Doing this will increase speed and playability. :P
