Pirates Launcher Problem

I've been having major problems with this. It keeps saying "Problem starting Pirates of The Caribbean" also the video is not working as seen in this picture http://www.boomspeed.com/blariangirl...herProblem.bmp as you can see there's a red x there. I've have talked to a POTC tech and they suggested that something might be wrong with my graphics card. But I check to see if it was working right and it said this driver is working properly. I don't know what the problem could be do I really need to get a new graphics card or is it something else? Yes I do have Active X on my computer. My computer is a Dell Dimension E310, I have Windows XP. Please help!

Thats weird. I honestly don't know. Could just be the graphics card mate. Maybe it just isn't powerful enough to run POTCO. Otherwise, could be a virus with your computer, but its probably the graphics card. I'm no computer whiz, but its probably that.

happen to me and i need reinstal windows xp,. that not graphic card problem,. maybe ur version of windows xp is lite edition or unatended version, try to use original version of windows xp and the " there is a problem starting potco" will gone.

I have had something like, this. But it would just not bring up Pirates all together. As Davy Fireskull said my Computer was not powerfull enough to show the Graphics to POTCO anymore. When I went to live chat they came to the conclusion that my computer did not have enough memory power to run it anymore. So they said I ether had to get a new computer or get a External Hard drive. I went with the new Computer, and everything was fine.

My guess would be that you just ran out of power, and if that was correct you would ether have to. 1. Restor your computer and get rid of everything on it. 2. Get an External Hard drive that run from 60$ - 80$ US for a good one. Or get a new comp, and for a MMORPG like Pirates Online you would have to get atleats a 6 RAM comp for a good game play.
I hope that I am not right so you do not have to pay alot of money to fix it but that is what I think it is. Good luck mate and I hope it is not too bad.

Ok, before you get into major stuff....is that browser upload or the desktop download??....for desktop download....and maybe the browser version....if you don't have Active X, the latest, you can get that red x. And it won't download properly or display images. You might need Adobe Flash Player Active X 10 launcher. I also have Shockwave Player 11.5, but honestly can't tell you which is required by potco at this minute.

Also, if you have a pop-up blocker or firewall enabled, or ad-blocker enabled, during download you can have it not download properly. Also, your privacy/security settings on your puter may be blocking downloads or images....and your router and modem has settings to allow certain ports.

Did you talk to a tech on live chat? or in email feedback. Live chat is usually better.

Try some of these things before buying a graphics card or new computer...Or wait for a computer savy person here to help.....good luck...:)

Suggestions:

See if there are any new drivers available for your video card. You will need to know the make and possible model of your card. You should be able to find that info by going into the control panel, hardware, devices, device manager, display adapters. Then go to the manufacters site and check.

From my experience and knowledge, a new external harddrive will not do anything for you. It all comes down to memory resources, not really hard drive space.

Also try completely un-installing POTCO and go for a fresh load from the site.

Don't know if any of these will help. Just my thoughts.

Hi PirateGirl,

The red x does not mean there is any problem with your graphics card. It means the launcher is unable to connect to the internet because it is being blocked. This can happen when an update makes the launcher look different to the firewall.

What you need to do is to let your firewall program know that the program launcher.exe is OK to run. How you go about that differs from one brand of firewall to another.

Basically, you want to open whatever program you are using for a firewall. Look around the options for something that will let you browse to the launcher.exe file and add it to a list of trusted programs. Consult your firewall's instructions.

After the install completes, you may have to repeat the process to add pirates_online.exe to the trusted list as well. Both of these files can be found in the folder where the game installs.

Download problems like this will happen from time to time when there is an update.

Jeffery,

Very good point. I always forget about the firewall issue because I finally got mine set so the updates don't bother it any more.

This has nothing to do with Video or Firewalls - but their Software or a Windows Update. I've been using the same machine for years to play the game and now I am getting this error as well. I even re-formatted the computer with a fresh install, but once all the updates are done it stops functioning.

Though I do not have a solution yet, should I discover one or obtain one I'll post it as soon as I can.

Edit: Its interesting to note that my computer is a Dell GX620 (with an ATI HD 2600 1GB Vid Card)... it could be a problem with the chipset on Dell Boards (just noticing the OP computer...) I'll include that in my research...

;) Well - it wouldn't have been so long but with the POTCO error I haven't really had time to play with a solution until now.

Still looking around to see what I find...

The issue like Jeffrey said is an inernet/firewall problem...the graphics/cpu should have nothing to do with it...

Remember that the specs to run POTCO is only 800Mhz with 512mb RAM...the E310 is a 2.8Ghz cpu and is usually loaded with 512Mb DDR2 400 Mhz (PC2 4200U) to start with and it will take a maximum of 2 gigs of memory...the only downside to the E310 is that it runs on an older PCI-E x1 slot...

Is there an actual video card installed or is it the intergrated card? If there's an actual card, did you set the BIOS to have graphics run off the card itself?

You can do minor upgrades to the E310 to make the game run more smoothly for you...but again, your issue is an internet/firewall problem at best...

Good luck and let us know how you make out... :dancetl6:

*** Oh and yea, great seeing you again Max... :pirate.capta:

Got the solution for everyone:

At some point in time, I downloaded Microsoft Visual C++ Package for a work project - except this version is not the version that POTCO wants. Because I had installed the older version, then POTCO seen my older version, it didn't (couldn't) download and update it with the version it needed (Microsoft Visual C++ SP1 2008 is what it needs now).

For anyone who gets this error, close the game then download the C++ Files from microsoft and Run the file downloaded (link is below). Then run POTCO again, and you're in like flynn...

Microsoft C++ SP1 2008 Package

Good to see u 2 Nightwolf ;)

titanic95594 11-15-2010 12:42 AM

Hmm, that reminds me of C++ runtime errors.

PirateGirl212 11-15-2010 04:36 PM

Thanks everyone for your help. Major Thanks to Edward Edgemence for helping me he got me back on POTC online. I've update my graphics card etc. Now it works with no problems :)
