What Do You Think?

Privateering is a old event in the game and MANY SHOULD TRY IT. I'm not the oldest and not the youngest privateer and i find it the most fun part of the game because its:

1. Challenging- those who SVS in Andaba always know how hard it is to get high bounty/score and sink many ships in a row, Tough Competition involving skill
- Record is about 175 ships in a row, highest score ever about 150,000 and highest bounty ever above 30,000 (rounded results, not very accurate)

2. Intense in the sea while battling and out the sea when arguing(In my opinion best to stay away from the arguing!)

3. Its hard for many to be good at it - Its very hard for payers new to privateering to SvS and theres many great old SvSers who make it fun- (except for a few who are hated for messing it up)

HAVE YOU TRIED IT AND WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT SvS?
Share your experiences and give it a try if you haven't. You could give a shot to braking the records with enough experience and skill!

Tried it, hooked on it, love it:dancetl6:...would like to see a dedicated forum here on pof just for ship pvp..with tips, events, crewing, boat names, etc.

I meet new privateers who have trouble getting crews, but seem enthusiastic about it...so I encourage experienced ship pvpers to take a turn gunning for these new svs sailors. Yeah, its a pain when they sink three times in a row:psmiley27:, worse if they don't listen to well placed advice. But....some do and stay in game.

Try to keep the bounty playing in the game for others. It keeps interest and boats in the water.:sailr: So don't port big bounties if you can help it. Don't poof or log out during a chase. Fight. Its really bad sportsmanship to do either of those things. It drives potential repeat players out of game.

Patience is key. If you got a short fuse, maybe not for you. I enjoy the competition, the sailing, and sure, the glory....but mostly the time spent with a good crew and friends:buds:.

I used to be an SvSer back in the old days, back when it was more... clean cut, per say?

I still enjoy taking a VS out from time to time with my mates to wreck havoc on the seas, although my cannons are a bit rusted after breaking away from it many moons ago, aye?

Aside from the consumingness of having a guild, a family, and other obligations, it seems as though that I've been drawn away from SvS for.. well, three main reasons.

For one, the cheaters, hackers, and glitchers that migrated in to SvS way long ago really offset me. I know a lot of you many say a lot of the bugs have been fixed, but I'm positive I'm going to be the one person that ends up bringing his ship up against something similar to the HMS Invincible.

Secondly, I never manage to find a crew that's very.. patient. I'm the kind of person that will be willing to spend hours on hours doing one thing, no matter how hard it is. To the contrary, I often get stuck with mates who get sunk twice, and say "Forget it!" and run off. Nice.

Not to mention... I never really liked how competitive SvS has gotten. People will devote their entire time online to SvS, and doing one thing to offset them is like cutting the wrong wire on a bomb. I understand if some people get upset if they lose a few times, but there is never a need to explode over something. (And, just for those pirates out there, I don't think being good in SvS gives you a license to "do whatever the hell I want!" ;))

Oh, and my third reason, is just that I hate light sloops.

That just about sums it up for me. I used to do a lot of SvS before the level caps were raised 50. I spent most of my online time SvSing, ship open to public, with a ship full of people who just wanted to steer my ship. I learned from that though.

The reasons I don't SvS much anymore, are for these reasons.

1) Again, light sloops. I personally hate those light sloops that sail around firing maxed fury at you. They are nigh impossible to hit, and are speed demons. They honestly are annoying little players. I say, if you want to SvS me, actually allow me to hit you with a few broadsides, and fight like a man, or lady, if that be the case.

2) Too intense. SvS is really too intense of me. I'm a go with the flow, laid back kind of person. Thats why I hardly ever try to go for the competitions that POTCO puts out. I'm too laid back, and I don't like the competitiveness some players give. "Oh I need to sink every single ship or I stink!". <--- too many players think that way. For this reason, I only SvS with people I know.

3) I have other things that are more important. My guild, looting, and chillin' with friends is pretty important to me. SvSing is fun, and I do it for guild events, but all that other stuff comes first. I really can't gain too much out of SvS, so I don't do it too much. Looting say, on the other hand, gives me an opportunity to get some good weapons or clothes.

Don't get me wrong, Privateering is a great thing, just that I don't do it much. :)

I can agree with you mate in all three however you can ask around in andaba and they will tell you that hackers and cheaters in svs have almost gone away.

As for a patient crew, is always best to go svs with your friends or guild, and they will stay as long as they like it and you do good with them, (its going to be hard in the beginning)

I don't like it when to many lite sloops are sailing either thats why i'm trying to get players to sent suggestions to Disney to Improve SVS.

Remember that It's player vs player(what makes it interesting) therefore drama will always exist and someone will always be willing to mess it up for others.

I sink Lite sloops all the time with my crew however you can always Suggest to Disney to Limit the number of lite sloops and mate, broads aren't always going to get you far in SvS. You are going to need a crew with a few good gunners that will stay with you. You already know of how to help by mailing Disney the issues/bugs suggestions http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...ad.php?t=17729

Tiberius Fireskull 11-02-2010 12:36 AM

I might as well throw in a little suggestion for sinking light sloops while I'm here. The best thing to do, is to ram the light sloop, then have your gunners finish them off real fast. War frigates are best, cuz after you ram them, your gunners can finish them in one round of fury.

True, but some light sloop have some experience on keeping their distance so you need to be quick and sneaky at ramming them. You will still need a good crew so finish 'em fast before they get away. My best suggestion to be good at SvS is PRACTICE WITH YOUR FRIENDS and Remember MASTER YOUR SAILING AND CANNON.

I used to really enjoy SVS. In fact, my main pirate from Live wears a Lion's Head Tattoo on one shoulder and a Fleur-De-Lis on the other. Both were well fought and squarely won. But something happened over the years. And it is basically everything that Del said.

Too many people with a downloaded skill set who were fighting and not dying and all the while shouting. "I Rule The Ocean!" That and the freakish devotion some players seem to have for the event. It makes people unfriendly.

So I don't PVP and I don't SVS. Life's too short to worry about it.

The Legend 11-02-2010 01:34 AM

I started to SvS a few weeks ago and still only sometimes. i can agree with a lot of the responses however everything has a solution if everyone goes with it. Thx for the tips and ill try my best to help with them problems.

Very true Ex8404 a lot happened over the years which mostly contributed to the downfall but who is to blame in this case. Many players have been complaining to Disney to fix SvS but they ignore them 90 % of the time. and LOL Its Not " I rule the ocean", Its more like " I Am the SvS God". Unfriendly but Reality is a reason why SvS is so interesting (Other than the Battles of Course) because the arguing and the fighting can be IGNORED and can be fought. I try to stay away from it by ignoring it but sometimes i lose it. And many of the Hackers have been eliminates in my opinion.

Its very true that Disney have fixed a lot of bugs, even if it took a long time, the use of the now infamous CE has been blocked, and svs is very playable.

HMS Invincible like the Titanic is sinkable, and we all know that some people get all upset when they sink, but honestly we ALL SINK, its fun to see how long a run u can have with the bounty, if we lose it we get right back out to see can we get it again, the gunners get rich the captain gets notorious, much fun:)

If you have trouble finding a crew and feel like a little svs come find us on french andaba, friend us sail with us, Team SVS are around.

You are right being good at svs doesnt give anyone license to do anything, yes there are attitudes that make us all frown, but thats part and parcel of any social event, ignore it, walk away, get back on your ship and sink 'em some more.

HEHEHEHE light sloops! We all hate the boingy lil blighters, but its things like light sloops that make u sharpen up your aim, personally I use fire on them because even in heavy lag its very accurate.

Think about it, if you have a five minute break or all day to sit around and play, svs fits the bill, you get on into instant action and team work, social interaction, adrenaline and giggles.
Thats what I pay for:) if I wanted endless quests then I too would go to WoW.

Aye

Aye Maya, many bugs have been fixed however more bugs have been created as time passed. The best thing that was fixed was blocking CE and most hackers.

kafufle 11-13-2010 04:47 PM

light sloops

if everyone hates light sloops then think about the reason it might be a basic member who has realised a light galleon is terrible at svs so they decide to use a light sloop if you want this fixed just send an email to disney to give basic players light frigates it makes it more fun for everyone

ps it could of course be a unlimited player who is really annoying in that case blast him to davy jones

Giving light frigates sounds great mate however were not talking about no light sloops at all, just limiting their number so there is enough big ships to fight increasing the competition.
