Think about this for a minute ranters...

Well, I was doing some thinking today, (omg! DF actually thinks! And omg! DF finally accepted his new nickname!) and I just thought about how we all rant. We rant for the Kraken, we rant for ship customization, we rant to get those updates out faster, we rant for this, we rant for that. Just take a minute and think. Lets pretend (cuz it probably will never happen) that POTCO actually brings in all this stuff we want. EVERYTHING. Ship customization, Kraken, Story Chapter, rolling updates out every other week. That hasnt happened... and you know, I think I like it this way. This game wouldn't be the same if all that happened. Heck, half of us wouldn't even be on the forums, cuz lets face it, if we had everything we wanted, the only things left on the forums are the glitches and the activities (and I ban anyone who objects to that!). If we had everything that we wanted, EVERYTHING, what would be the point of playing the game? The reason I keep playing this game is partially due to the fact that I look forward to what will come, and I want to be ready for it. Again, if we got all this stuff and POTCO just kept rolling out updates, I dont think this game would be the same, and I may not like it as much, just because part of me enjoys looking forward to all this new stuff.

You can call me crazy and everything, but I personally don't see the point in all this ranting. Be happy with the game as it is. If everything came out at once, there would be nothing left to do in the game.

Sorry if I bored you to death, I just thought I would speak my opinion.

CarribeanThunder 09-08-2010 03:11 AM

Finally, someone who actually thinks.
I agree with all, and I mean ALL, of what you have just said. That, and people should be patient anyway.
Also, think about it - if we did have everything, the people who finish everything will become bored of the stuff we have and will ask for even MORE.

angel 4ever 09-08-2010 03:20 AM

yes i agree if they rolled out new stuff every other week it be cool for the first few weeks but then there be so much we wouldnt be able to keep up and then be like whats the point if we were able to finish onw thing but then like 10 more new things came out and then 10 more and so on we be like we cant do all that at one time and just give up that wouldnt be much fun in my point of view so ya even if we did get every thing we wanted we still wouldnt be happy any way

jolly richard 09-08-2010 03:32 AM

yeah i agree completley but i gotta say i really don't like having nothing but events happen for 2 and a half months,it's about time we got a real update

I agree with you, Im not saying we shouldn't have any updates, just that we shouldn't be asking for as much as we are right now. And I'm not saying I dont want the Kraken, story chapter, ship custom, etc. Just saying that we shouldn't keep ranting about it. Just to be calm and enjoy the game as it is.

Sven Osymthe 09-08-2010 11:19 AM

I agree with you, but I still get why people are asking for so much. It's coming up on the 3 year anniversary for the game, and since then, they've added: 1 story quest, SvS, 3 clothing quests, a few weapon quests, mini-games, inventory, newer weapons. There's probably some stuff I left out, but those are the biggest ones I can remember. That's not really much to show for a game entering it's 3rd year, especially when they've constantly mentioned the Kraken, among other things.

I don't want them to release too much at one time, but it would be nice if they hurried up with some updates.

tayseth 09-09-2010 12:45 AM

It seems that Disney is opening up shop again, but your opinion didn't convince me that they are making things on a timely basis/they aren't lazy.

If Disney released things on a timely basis, maybe customers wouldn't leave in droves and make The Game a wasteland of near extinction. That being said, I find it weird how you like that theres nothing to do, as Disney hardly has worked upon the mundane act of making small contributions to the game just to keep us SOMEWHAT occupied. Disneys releasing schedule is incredibly botched, in a way it sorta goes like this: Wait 4 months, SNEEZE out an update ranging from being pointless/Good except it's chock full of glitches that should be easy to fix if the panda engine wasn't made of suck/make a worthwhile update.

Yeah, maybe people would actually be playing it.

You're implying that most of the forum is made out of pointless speculation threads. You'd be somewhat correct. However, if we had something to do, i'm positive there would be a discussion about it.

Getting everything in a game, as a rather clumsy navy officer said, is "A nigh impossible proposition." I hope your argument isn't based on that, because it's a fallacy. Games don't "Get everything." If a game can't contribute anything else worthwhile, then it is DEAD, likely because the premise of said game was bad. Pirates Online does NOT have a bad premise.

What indeed, will come. What indeed.

Yes, if it was well executed, people would be playing this game. Obviously that means the game wouldn't be the same.

Part of you enjoys waiting prolonged periods of time while the potco team clearly gives very little iota to not being lazy. Thats not something a lot of people will agree with.

Ranting is interesting, it's more of a debate, if you will. Obviously, ranting isn't going to make the updates come out faster, but neither will *not* ranting. Ranting is something to do in your free time while waiting for these updates to come out.

Again, fallacy, that doesn't happen.

Tiberius Fireskull 09-09-2010 12:53 AM

Tayseth, my point is that people expect too much from the POTCO team. I agree with you that they could be faster at putting their updates out, however, I just dont want all this stuff to come really fast. I can wait for all this. If they release it all at once, most players wont be able to keep up with it. I want to be able to thoroughly enjoy the update and know everything about it before they release another. This is why I almost like the pace that Disney goes at, it gives me time to enjoy an update before I have to go explore the new one. Also, when I say I dont want us to get everything we want, I mean all at one time. If they do give us all that stuff it should be spread out.

My main point is, part of me likes the slow pace that the game goes at. Me, and many other players wouldnt be able to keep up if they released a new update every week.

titanic95594 09-09-2010 12:55 AM

Eh well I dont rant about the updates only the disconnection issues what have not started when I started playing but started disconnecting me now.

Captain Del 09-09-2010 12:56 AM

I think what Davy is trying to say is that if we got everything we wanted.. well, that's the point. If you get everything you want, why wait around for stuff you don't? If everything that everybody wanted was out, they would do it, play around with it a little, maybe repeat it on baby pirates, and then, a huge armada of people leave. More than likely to the fact the game would have to fold. After all, staying would be kinda like sitting around in a football stadium right after the game.

I understand your argument, tay - that this stuff SHOULD be out. But Davy also has a point, where if everybody got what they wanted right away, there would be nothing left for the game to provide for us.

Key lessons? Patience is key, be careful what you wish for, etc.

Tiberius Fireskull 09-09-2010 01:04 AM

Del, thank you for expressing my opinion perfectly in words... I was having trouble picking out the right words.

What I outlined is important. There's a game I play, and they have worlds. They were rushed with a world, so they released it on Test and on Live in about a month. The world had not had much testing, so there were MANY glitches. If they release too much too fast, it won't be as good.

This post summed up in two words? Be patient.

(P.S. this is not geared at the poster, as I like what he said)

All i'm asking for is to fix their directory and Leaderboard.

Thats asking to fix a bug... I'm talking mainly about people yelling at Disney to give them all the updates they want in the course of roughly a month.

Captain Sureshot 09-10-2010 06:43 PM

So, Davy Fireskull, waiting for content enhances your POTCO game experience - that's nutty! I've had way too many pirates on my friends list leave the game because they were bored with nothing to do because ... wait for it... new content wasn't released in a timely fashion! I don't recall ever reading a rant about an MMO because there is more to do or the dev gave the players the content players wanted in a timely fashion.

...umm, okay, I'll answer: to play a more complete and robust game.

Wow. Davy Jones and the Kraken were talked about when the game was in beta, and ship customization was discussed at the one year anniversary. You must be one of the happiest pirates in the Caribbean since Disney has kept you waiting all this time!

Gosh no.
