New member, problems.. not sure where to put this
Hi there! I just got my POTCO code yesterday and downloaded and played it for a few hours. I am about to delete it and give my test account to a friend but before I do that I wanted to make sure there isn't anything I can do.
It is so so so VERY laggy. It loads slow, my pirate runs in slow motion, the graphics are all messed up when I'm sailing (textures and such flash in the water). Mainly just slow as mud. So slow that I can barely move. A couple times I just froze and had to close my window and reload the game. Here is my computer's stats: Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz, 2.79 GHz, 512 Ram. I know I don't have all that much ram, but I can play my two toontown accounts on one computer at the same time without a problem. My computer meets POTCO's minimum standards. I was playing alongside a friend yesterday and he said I looked like I was walking very slow while everyone else was running about. The only other program I had running was a small messenger program which does not take up much memory at all. No other programs, and nothing running in my taskmanager. I increased my virtual memory to the maxium and made all the graphics the lowest setting on the options menu. Nothing helped. Restarting my computer did not help either. I am so disappointed as I've been waiting for a key for this game for months. Does any computer gu-ru's out there have any advice for me? Thanks in advance! |

Ok since I dont have xp I dont know how to show you where to get your graphics card brand, but see the things above.

2 Attachment(s)
Go to
Start -> Run -> type "dxdiag" The main page will display all the important info about your computer, click the display tab and it will show you what your video card is and how much memory it has. "See my attached pictures" Hope it helps |

Here are two screenshots from doing the directx diag tool:
Hope this helps! Thanks for all your assistance. |
looks like ur computer would work with it...
how how many gigs do u have? |
I'm running the game just fine with the very same processor (Pentium 4, 2.80Ghz), so that's not the issue. But I have 1 GB of RAM, and I also have an nVidia 256MB graphics card. It appears that your system technically doesn't have a graphics card, it has what's called "Intel Extreme Graphics", a graphics chipset that's built-in to the motherboard. I'm not an expert on such matters, and I don't know whether others are successfully running "Pirates" with that chipset, but my guess is that your lack of a "real" graphics card is probably the issue.

I played it again with gamma all the way down (whats gamma anyway?) and there was much less to almost no lag. I don't know if it was because the server was empty or if that was the key. I guess I"ll see how it goes when I play it again tonight after work.
As far as gig? Isn't it a half gig with 512 mb Ram? |
Yes, gamma lags my pc too. I turned it off since it really doesnt matter. Also Vandelay are you talking about an intergrade graphics card? I have that, pirates works fine.
