Utterly Displeased with Sea Combat System
I could not be more displeased with the Sea combat system in phase 2. All ships above level 25 are undefeatable, even with a War Galleon/Frigate, and all ships go in a giant circle. And, ships can go through other ships, and do rapid 360s while sailing! :h-skull:
|
I agree. I never did like how all the ships are high level and almost undefeatable.
|
I also think ghost ships should not fire back, just like Phase 1. They're ghost ships, so there should be no crewmen to fire the cannons!
|
I think they are tougher obviously then beta 1 but I like it more challenging. Thinking they shouldn't fire back is very funny. They are beatable ...you need a good crew.

I can only get the camera to work on empty servers... well... it moves in full areas, but only when it wants to. Lag will make the ships be long-gone by the time I fire- or I'll get the "You just got sunk" movie...
I think the sailing pattern is an A.I. problem... It seems like they want to trick you to follow them back to a stronger ship, and end-up in a herd... but if you end up in a herd (like they just pop-up from no-where sometimes) your broadsides go all out of wack and aim at anything that moves. I'm not sure if you can still get this, but it's a Little meter called "D.U. meter"... Free to try- (then it seems like you stay locked in day 2 of the trial)... But it will show you when you are downloading all the stuff on your screen (Laggg) |
I definitely do not like the lag that happens while at sea. Is it me or recently has there been an influx of AI ships as servers have been reduced? Also, where has all the *flag* ships gone to grapple?
|
Yeah I've noticed that out of Port Royal there are loads of little ships and maybe 1 or 2 bigger ships. Seems you have to sail farther afield for bigger ships, although there seems to be no medium sized ships (lvl 10-20) Or I'm looking in the wrong place LOL.
Lag is just terrible too even in the quiet districts. Like Icesphere I to find that by the time i've caught up with the lag my ships been sunk. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. |
Question about sailing. i am currently at level 14 sailing, but level 6 cannon( I cant seem to get anyone to captain a ship and work as a gunner.) At what level will I be able to upgrade my broadsides to flaming cannon balls or lightrning attack? Please tell me that I do not have to work my way up with cannons.( If you sit in the crowded waters and shoot at the level 1-7 ships, they take forever to sink and you get 0 to 7 points only.)
|
There is a huge discrepancy between the ships.
Anything level 7 or under, I can kill with one shot. I only get about 5 rep points too, and a cargo crate. Any other ships are level 20 +, and are near impossible to kill unless you have many gunners. I can manage a level 17 ghost ship UNLESS they fire lightning cannonballs from their broadsides. Those are instant death for my lvl 11 galleon. The way I see it: fine, have the difficult ships out there, but make there a bit of a middle ground so some of us can actually move up in life and kill them. -Captain |

Am I the only one not having trouble sinking ghost ships by myself? I actually think that IETC ships are the hardest. I have no trouble sinking ghost ships.
Maybe it depends on what ship you have. |
I myself have a Light Frigate and a Sailing Level of 8, currently. My cannon level is 4, which I assume is pretty bad considering my level 17 notoriety.
I am also displeased with sailing all together in phase 2. I find it impossible to sink anything over a level 15 by myself, and even level 10s are more and more difficult on a daily basis. I'm currently on a task where I need to sink a skeleton ship to get cursed wood for Fabiola. I can't even take the skeleton ship's life bar down 1/4th of the way, which is becoming a real pain. I've been training for two days now on "smaller" ships, hoping to get my sailing level high enough to upgrade my side cannons, being all I've upgraded with sailing is Full Sail. Maybe I'm just not trained enough, but high level ships are the spawn of all evil during the time I have to play POTCO. |
Well, when I sail with me friend, his level of sailing is over 18 and we have no problem sinking level 30+ ships. It all depends on the ship, and your sailing, brodside cannons, starboard cannons, and regular cannon levels.

i really belive it has to do with how they are tweaking the levels. its not just sailing either. my noteriety is 20 and and my indivudual skills are all pretty much from lvl 8 to 12. i mostly have no problem sinking ghost ships, eitc or navy @ level 17 or below even when alone. same is true of beating navy officers, gators, fly traps, giant crabs etc... anything below level 7 is pretty much one shot and done and anything level 20 and above i really need to get lucky or be with a group.
remeber folks its still beta and they are still tweaking things to get them right. keep sending in feedback and bug reports, dont just post it here. |
