Is the boss battle too short?

Does anyone else think that the boss battle is too short?

Tiberius Fireskull 08-13-2010 08:05 PM

Sorry for a late reply, I was just looking around the poll section.

I dont think its too short, but its too EASY! It used to be a huge challenge... now its difficult to actually lose! Back about a year ago, THAT was when you had to try over and over again until you won it.

Its not too short from my point of view, but its now to easy.

I think that the Boss Battle is too short because it is too easy. For instance, the Goliath is way too weak and I also feel the Boss Battle is too, for lack of a better word, simple. But how exactly is the Boss Battle easier than it used to be?

The boss battle isn't too short, but it is too easy.

They have changed the amount of damage that each ship/bridge deals, as well as how powerful the Goliath is. The ships used to be able to take a good amount of damage off (now, I literally waited 5 minutes with all 4 firing away.. barely even a scratch). The first 3 sets of bridges could get you in the yellow. If you weren't good enough at steering, or had people on cannons that weren't strong enough, you would sink at the last bridge due to explosive ammo. Then the Goliath was actually tough.. although sailing far away still worked.

I have to agree with SvenO.

ya me too i done it twice and it seems very easy but i havent tried driving yet but its done very fast

I have an idea! What if they added difficulty levels to the Boss Battle? Lets say easy, normal, hard, intense.

Easy mode.... thats pretty much the difficulty the boss battle is now...

Normal mode would be just a tad bit easier than it used to be

Hard mode would be more difficult than the old boss battle. You would need a biggish crew and several gunners with fury, and the sailor should be a mastered sailor. The forts/drawbridge's cannons do just a little more damage than they used to, but their health is increased. The same goes for the light frigates. The Goliath has about 2 times the health of a Death Omen, and does about 1 1/2x the damage it can do now.

Intense.... if you are brave or crazy enough to try this difficulty, bring a huge crew, where at least half of them have rank 5 fury and thunder. The bridges and light frigates do a significant amount more damage than they do now, and have increased health. The Goliath has about three times the health of a Death Omen, and does 2x the damage.

When you do the Boss Battle for your story quest, it is automatically set to the normal difficulty.

Hope you like the idea. ;)

Don't ya mean 2 years ago? Disney changed it so much its not challenging at all. 2 years ago, I was lucky if I ever won in green (means less than 50% ship damage) whenever I sailed. Last summer, most of my wins whenever I sailed were all less than 10% ship damage, best being 3%, no glitching no speeding none of that. Just for fun, I took a pirate that had lvl 1 sailing skill & I still won in green with like 20something% ship damage. Boss Battles are such a waste of time now that the normal ship's cargo is increased, lolol BBs was how I used to make fast $ with the Pearl's 18 cargo spaces.

Too bad Disney got rid of the Ship Status Damage % whenever u dock now, so u can't really compare anymore to other times to see how much easier it has gotten.

I agree with the many posters who say it isn't that the Boss Battle is too short, it is that it is too easy.

I may be to blame for it being too easy. I did the Boss Battle solo before anyone thought it even possible, and posted it on youtube. My later posts were quite critical of Disney, which I made for the purposes of putting a burr under their butts to make some content, and my post about doing the Boss Battle solo made me a sort of cult hero in POTCO and lent me gravitas.

And I did it twice. I made a video about how to RUN THE BRIDGES, and few ever did that, let alone solo, and my video showed me doing THAT solo. Major gravitas.

Disney saw a way to end the gravitas. Make the Boss Battle easy, so it looked to new players, that I was full of boast, and little else. And in fact, it worked...

So blame me. I pointed out that the Boss Battle was conquerable solo, which meant it was EASIER than people once thought, then Disney makes it MUCH EASIER? That doesn't make sense, except to minimize my importance...

Before I ran the bridges, it took around FIFTEEN minutes to do the Boss Battle. It seemed to everyone that it was more like five minutes, but that is because time flies when you are having fun. I clocked it numerous times, and believe me, it most often took a crew fifteen minutes to get through it, and more often than not, we lost.

Disney should restore the old Boss Battle, and let EVERYONE that's in crew, whatever level, paid or unpaid, go along. It's fun to see the cutscene for noobs, well, it was when it was in sync anyway, and if you died, well, you could always try try again and run run run the next time.

Seriously, the posters are right. It isn't too fast, it is too easy. But Disney isn't going to bring the old difficult one back, for that would give me back my fame. They would have to make it hard and DIFFERENT to minimize me now... and perhaps they might do THAT with enough pressure from you all.

The Navy Panthers ( Which back then were called Light Frigates, or something ) used to deal quite a bit of damage compared to what they do now. Plus, they took a slight bit longer to sink...

The forts used to deal a lot of damage. The last fort was the pain - by the time you reached it, you probably had low health. Because of this, they would definitely deal more damage. Even a good cannoneering crew couldn't destroy these THAT fast.

The Goliath, for those who didn't know, wasn't always a Ship Of The Line. It was a massive, oversized Navy War Frigate. It's sails seemed pretty small for how large the hull was, but anyway...
For a while, the Goliath kept it's name proper - it took a while to sink. Damage dealt to it was like damage dealt to a Navy/EITC Elite/Tyrant, only it didn't have as much health. It dealt pretty decent damage, too.
Eventually, it came to the point where Disney weakened it by quite a bit, while also weakening the forts. They probably wanted to make this a "slight" bit easier....
A while after that came the Goliath's redesign. This would have been better WHEN the Goliath was THE Goliath...

Tiberius Fireskull 08-16-2010 05:24 PM

The Goliath still packs a punch, its just that it doesnt have as much hull power anymore, and you havent lost as much hull now from the forts.

Captain Jason 08-26-2010 07:30 AM

I think it's way to short. In my opinion it should start with you setting off to find the island, fighting a few ships of on one of the crew's ships, porting there, fighting your way to the cutscene before the pearl, getting on and doing basically what you do but then after the goliath you have to sail to safety back at tortuga.
