Skills System Idea...

What if there was a skills system separate for Notoriety. Kinda like the weapons system for let's say sword. But it gives certain different skills like Plunder Luck and Double Sword Wielding Ability.

There could be skills that require a number of points to unlock and level requirements for certain weapons to unlock like fury broadsides.

Another Idea would be having a list of choices from combos you can choose from and turn them into a sword combo like for sword.

Slash, Cleave, Eviscerate, Flourish then Cyclone Cut. There's a whole expansion of combos you can choose from and create your own person ideas.

IF you have an idea for a new skills system just post here or if you want to criticize on mine go ahead.

I like this idea for the most part. Not that it matters, but i've seen plenty of games that based on your (character's) level, the more abilities you have. So far in POTCO the only advantage is you have more health and voodoo. Adding abilities that you mentioned would fit nicely into something like this. Only idea I don't like would be choosing your own combo. If there are new moves added that you choose, sure, but the new moves should be specific towards your weapon (no dagger moves on swords, etc.).

Although I like the idea, I don't think it should be included. It's just like the inventory in a way, if they wanted it in, it should have been there from the start. Adding it now would just mess everything up. If they added it without any issues though, it would certainly be fun to mess with.

I like your ideas with Notoriety skills. Sure, no groggy effect is nice, but that's all that level 50's are getting. Every few levels, IMO, we should be able to unlock a new passive skill (Ex: increase accuracy at level 20, dual wielding at level 35, etc...). And to fit into Disney's weapon skill points, we can get a point every level (total of 50 for all of you math wizzes :D) and add up to 5 to each passive skill. This would give us more diversity, as we could develop certain resistances that others wouldn't have, as well as advantages (the dual wielding idea.)

Those are just my 2 cents.

I still think we should break up weapons and scavage skills through items fround on the weapons. You could pick up the souls of the skills, and then add them to a broken blade, and fuse them together to make a new weapons. Loved your idea mate, but there are some things that it wouldn't work with that have been added into the game already...

I think we should be able to mix-match weapons. After all, we are pirates! Put a sword on a dagger hilt for extended reach, hide a sword in your staff, etc. Something I've noticed is this game has no sense of self-preservation. You hack, you slash. Whoever has more health comes out on top. We should be able to block, parry, etc. Not as a passive skill, but as a very active one. Will you block or attack? Pirates with a higher level in that particular weapon would of course break through for more damage. Here's a small chart to give the idea.

Attacker: Sword Level 10

Defender: Dagger Level 10

Since their levels are equal, the damage is canceled out. But in this case...

Attacker: Sword Level 10

Defender: Dagger Level 8

The majority of the damage is blocked, but some makes it through.

Attacker: Dagger Level 10

Defender: Sword Level 13

This time around, the defender has a higher level, which mean the attacker is caught off guard. Because of this, they're stunned in the same way as if you had used Brawl, Throw Dirt, etc.

Tell me what you think.

I like your ideas a lot KOTC. Unfortunately, it is very complicated and it might be hard for Disney's younger crowd to understand. Though it is a good thought, perhaps you could try to simplify it... just a little :)

So if I'm a level 10 sword and I'm trying to beat an enemy one level higher than me I do no damage?

KeeperOfTheCode 07-29-2010 01:50 AM

Basically. Of course, that would only be if they're blocking at the moment. Of course, that rule would have to be tweaked, but that's the general idea.

Maybe it would work more along these lines...

Attacker: Dagger Level 8

Defender: Sword Level 10

Maybe, instead of stunning the attacker, it just blocks a percentage equivalent to the attacker/defender level ratio. In this case, 80% gets through.

i really do like the idea of blocking and everything. Parry and that really doesn't do much for me. I mean a 10% chance to block an attack, Thats basically leaving it all up to chance and probability. I want it to be more interactive, like if you press the B button when an enemy is about to attack, you can block it

I still think that they need to do something about skill points first. How can anyone fully max their skills if they still have point slots available.

Captain Jason 09-04-2010 10:09 PM

What if you could take from notoriety to add to another skill? Let's say I'm have 40000 notoriety points, and i need to master cannon, I turn my notoriety rep into cannon rep.

Captain Jason 09-07-2010 02:02 AM

maybe if you slash or hack or something when the enemy does it would be something like a parry, blocking it so you take no damage and the enemy is stunned or slowed for 2 seconds or something. And what about giving enemies their very own player card type things, to see their level and stuff. Minus the add as friend invite to guild stuff. And enemies using moe then one weapon, i know that raiders use sword and dagger but thats it. Maybe a veteran that also knows some voodoo, or a skeleton that just got a staff.

Thats a cool idea, and what if we could retrain our skills and even choose which weapons to have and not to have. :treas:
