Pirate Names Taken Away For Unknown Reasons?

Earlier today, my friend Angel Hearthara got her name taken away. She had chosen the name from " pick a name. " She apparently got a warning saying it was inappropriate and her name was reverted back to " Pirate. " And this was actually two years after she creates that pirate. :sadmh9:

wow very weird ......

magicmarbels 06-26-2010 10:21 AM

I would be upset if someone took my name away after i had it for 2 years.
I would send a message to Potco or even call. They have been preety:laughks2::psmiley35: good about answering messages.

Then again, I tried naming my pirates some famous names - blackbeard, calico jack rackham, henry morgan etc and I get a note in the tutorial that I need to change my name because Disney won't accept it. How in the world can they say that when there are lets see at least 100 people with the same name, and they are on my friends list?!?!?!!?

Cannonfury 06-26-2010 02:05 PM

yeah angel told me about this....I think someone must have reported it.

but i still don't see what's wrong with "hearthara"

Jamesvsthekraken 06-26-2010 03:44 PM

It's even in their pirate "name" list in the beginning of the game. What gives?

If someone had reported it, it was probably a false report. It may be just if you report a player with a " bad name " then they automatically have to change their name. Because that's what it seems like happened. :sadmh9:

Matthew Sternrage 06-28-2010 04:27 PM

My name wasn't always Matthew Sternrage. When I joined Pirates, My custom pirate name was Captain Mattstein, and this was around 1 and a half years ago, and my name was taken away in May. I sent a message to Disney on why my name was taken away, and they said it was "Inappropriate." How can Captain Mattstein be inappropriate?

Ropeburn 06-28-2010 05:16 PM

really?
so if some1 reports u for a bad name u get ur name changed?? hmm...
i dont like my pirate name anymore....
>_>

Igor Greybeard 06-28-2010 05:27 PM

Igor think

Igor may see Disney's point. They think these can be real names like Capt Mattstein, could your real name be Matt Stein??? That would be releasing personal information :skull:

StellaInTheSky 06-28-2010 06:08 PM

Wow, 2 years?! That's a little strange. I've personally gotten tired of trying to be creative when making a new pirate as no matter what I type it seems to be something I 'can't use'. I've yet to understand why I can have LaCroix as a last name (French) but I can't use Mariposa (Spanish).

I'd suggest what magicmarbels said and have Angel contact Disney...I always get on Live Chat and they're quite good at helping. =)

It seems like that may be the issue. Anyone can find a certain name to be inappropriate to their standards; like maybe it was too close to their own name or they thought a crazy reason of it infringing their rights.

Honestly I think it depends on what moderator looks at what name/chats/etc. That's why some people get banned/suspended/warned for one thing, and if someone else was to say the same thing, they may not get in as much trouble or not get a violation at all. For the people who have names like that, maybe some mods allow it and some do not. Even though Disney does have its terms of service, some moderators do one thing and some moderators do the other.

Perhaps they should have checked every combination of names to make sure none were inappropriate.

yeah I just got this email to about my D-Name. I've been on since 2006 and now they removed my name.

Dear Disney Online Guest,

We are writing to inform you that your D-Name has been reset. Please note that we reserve the right to deny any name for any reason whatsoever at our discretion, including those already in the game.

As the name approvals are processed by individual operators, occasionally names that fall outside of our guidelines will be inadvertently approved. If that name is later brought to our attention and upon further review deemed against the guidelines, it is removed and given the opportunity for a more appropriate name to be selected.

Although we cannot comment on the specifics of your case, rest assured that the name approval process ensures that Disney Online will remain free of names that generally do not fit within our world. We kindly ask that when selecting a new D-Name, you remember that D-Names cannot include the following:

-A guest’s real last name or other personally identifiable information
-Anything that alludes to illegal activity
-Foul, hateful or suggestive language
-Trademark brand of character names not affiliated with The Walt Disney Company
-Websites

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we look forward to seeing you back online soon!

Thank you,

Tamiko
The Disney Online Team

how about celebrity names?? like I couldn't name a pirate "britney spears", right? just curious

sunnysweeney 07-04-2010 12:36 PM

Sunny Sweeney is a celebrity name and I requested to rename it to Sunny so I don't get banned. yeah they overlooked or some noob at Disney saw it and made me fix it (d-name). let me say that I was here since 2006 and they finally found out "Sunny Sweeney" is a country singer name lol
