Full Length POTC Novel scheduled for 2011 Release

Hi! (Or should I say "Ahoy?") A.C. (Ann) Crispin here.

Just a bit of news for POTC fans that like to read.

Disney will be releasing the first full-length Pirates of the Caribbean novel aimed at an adult audience next May of 2011. Pirates of the Caribbean, Price of Freedom is a prequel to the first POTC film. It takes place when Jack Sparrow is 25 years old, and is the story of how he first became a pirate captain.

It's an epic length book. I did my best to make the nautical scenes as accurate as I could, unless historical accuracy conflicted with the Pirates "canon." (Which happened occasionally!)

I'm hoping that Disney will okay me to post some excerpts on my website in the upcoming months. I'm currently in the process of updating it, after not being free to discuss this project for several years.

I hope those of you who check it out will enjoy the novel.

Best,

-Ann C. Crispin

That's some awesome news! I know there are quite a few of us who enjoy your sci-fi and fantasy novels. Nice to see that Disney is letting a book come out for POTC that isn't a children's step-2 book. I'm sure we'll be looking for a copy of that next year!

A.C.,

Awesome to hear, mate! I had a chance to meet and talk with you in Louisville some time ago and have loved you work. I'm still a long time fan of your V adaptations.

And to my fellow pirates, if there was a writer to bring a Pirates novel to life and give it a ring of truth to the fans - it's Anne!

I take it this will be tale of the Wicked Wench, as the title is somewhat telling?

I was so excited to see this post I had to call my mother (who wants to know if Yesterday's Son is still in print as our copy is currently held together by packing tape and hope) to share. This is one we'll definitely be on the lookout for.

Omg! You wrote it? Wow! I will be looking for it...

Hi!

Answers to questions, in order:

Yes, this book is the story of how Jack "met" the Wicked Wench and became her Captain. The story I wrote differs slightly from the account in the gaming books, I suspect, though it ends up in the same "place" for the characters.

Yesterday's Son is out of print, as far as I know, but you can get used copies, and there is still an electronic version, I believe, on sale from Pocket Books.

Any other questions?

Thanks for your interest!
