Banning method

Hi,

Just wondering: does Disney ban violating pirates, accounts, or IPs (or which combination of them?)

Thanks!

Disney bans based on how serious the reason for banning is. However, they don't ban single pirates, they always do accounts or higher.

I'm not sure about IP bans though. I've seen people get banned for various reasons (more than likely on a basic account), only to log on to another account. They should always ban the players IP.. if something like that would of happened, linked accounts could have stayed.

the IP would not be good to ban cause others could use teh same computer and they not get banned so therefore its a bad idea.

That may be the case, but the player who did get banned could also just log on to another account, on the exact same IP.

I think they should just ban you by IP, and depending on the situation (if more than one person uses the computer), allow those other people to contact Disney, and let them decide what is best.

Sorry for bothering; what the heck is an IP? Haha I'm so clueless. :skull: Is it an abbreviation of something? iPirate?

Thanks,

IP stands for Internet Protocol ( address ) - it is sort of like the address for your house on the street but instead it is the address for your computer on the internet ( network ). As far as I know, Disney does not ban the IP as I have multiple accounts and have suffered bans before. I then play a pirate on one of my other accounts and I have had no problem doing that.

If the IP address is used to block access it will cause unlimited problems for those players who do not play thpough a fixed IP!

Imaging trying to login and finding you cannot because your ISP DHCP server has allocated your router/modem an address that has been blocked by Disney (or any other online service that you want to access)

IP blocking for such a reason is not really a suitable or bullet proof solution.

The other problem with IP blocking is it would not stop the banned player from simply jumping on another computer. Different computer, different IP. You'd have to ban both the account and the IP.

The real heart of getting around bans is simple. Disney doesn't ban IPs and does allow you to have, as I was once told, "as many accounts as you like." So a banned member can simply make a new account and get back to business. Till they fix that ban's aren't going to be permanent. How they'd fix that I have no clue.

What would have been simpler for Disney to do regarding people using linked accounts to bypass their suspensions would have been to disable the characters on the affected account. Disney's idea of banning an account is to deny them logon access. The linked accounts let them bypass the logon of the account and tab over. If they'd had just denied them the ability to actually choose those characters, it would have been a lot easier to control.

Sure that doesn't help situations where people just create a new account and grief people with low level characters, but that can't be avoided when you have a free level of access to the game.
