How to be successful in an invasion.

For all of you guys who can't seem to ever be successful in an invasion, this guide may prove as a SERIOUS help. Enjoy.

Step 1: The moment that you get a notification that there will be an invasion, turn off 3D mode (If you have it on) and set your graphics to low. You have to restart Pirates to set your graphics to low, but this will seriously reduce lag.

Step 2: After you log back on to pirates, choose your server. The less people in a server, the easier enemies are to defeat, but if you are low level or basic, it is better for you to be in a server with more people. (Keep in mind, the more people, the more lag)

Step 3: FILL UP ON EVERYTHING. Anything that you have to buy to use (Tonics, Bullets, Throwing Daggers) fill up on it! Even if you think you will not use it, fill it up! (The only exception is cannons)

Step 4: Decide your primary weapon, this can be any weapon, but it is recommended to be the most powerful. If you do not have any powerful weapons, pull out your Voodoo doll and heal, or you can revive people as they get knocked out.

Step 5: GET A CREW! Either make one or join one. This is mainly for your notoriety, the more people in your crew, the more notoriety. Also, crew members tend to revive other crew members before they revive non crew members.

Step 6: Choose your beach. The undead will attack from 2 beaches. The main beach (The one with the pier) is always more popular with people than the 2nd beach. Choose the one most suiting your needs.

Step 7: Make a setup. In large servers, people tend to not listen, but if you are in a smaller server, try and get the people to make this setup.

Up Front: Voodoo doll. This will give them a chance to attune their targets before others start attacking, which make it difficult to attune.

Behind Dolls: Swords. After the dolls make their attunments, they should move out of the way for the swords. The swords can then start attacking.

Behind Swords: Daggers. The daggers can choose to stay back and use their throwing blades, or can get up with the swords to attack.

Behind Daggers: Guns. Guns should not interfere with those who have to be next to their targets to attack. Guns need to attack from a distance.

Behind Guns: Grenades. Grenades should be thrown after others start attacking.

Off to the sides: Voodoo staff. The voodoo staff should be off to the side so they will not interfere with others.

Scattered about: Healers/Revivers. People healing or reviving should be evenly scattered around, and heal/revive people near them.

Note: Keg runners do not attack, however they do explode when killed. When a keg runner is spotted, stay away from it, and allow people who can attack from a distance (doll, staff, guns, throwing daggers) to take care of them.

Step 8: How to handle Jolly Roger. Jolly Roger is a difficult character to defeat. He is also a character that uses the staff. Only swords and daggers with a lot of health should get up to him to attack him. Everybody else should stay a large distance away. If you are going to revive, stay a large distance away, and wait for him to leave until you start reviving. If you are knocked out, and there is a large number of people also knocked out, you shouldn't wait very long to be revived. If you wait about 15 seconds and you are not revived, just go to jail. It will be alot faster.

Step 9: The invasion is over when Jolly reaches his target, or is defeated. When the invasion is over, you receive a message telling you how much notoriety you received. Any "leftover" enemies go away and the color and music change back to normal. If you want to keep doing an invasion, you can try to go to another server, as they may still have an invasion going on. If not, reset your graphics as you like them, restart the game for those changes to take affect, and continue what you were doing.

Depending on how many people are on the server, the undead attack from mutliple points. For example on Abassa, the PR Invasion while pretty much have every barricade attacked at the same time. On a quiet server with no people it's only two beaches. Ideals usually have the bridge and beaches at the same time, a jam packed ideal will have most barricades attacked at the same time.

Nice job on here, although with kegs I suggest that you put in there.
Note: When Kegs starting coming IMMEDIATELY kill them ASAP. Do NOT under any circumstances let them ANYWHERE NEAR the barricades.

Another note, NPC's can heal for 5 gold. Gypsies are void as they heal voodoo. Use NPC's to your ADVANTAGE!

Again nice job matey!

Thanks for the tips, when ever I try to do an invasion, I always get booted or something so I don't do them too much anymore.

Crestshot 05-31-2010 12:28 AM

Wow. This is an excellent guide. Too bad everyone in the game can't see this, huh? It would make invasions a lot less difficult as far as people are concerned. Nice Job!

I am sorry about that, however that is more technical. You need to contact POTCO support.

Sometimes what can happen is, depending on what you are doing when you were knocked out, you can move around while knocked out. You can use this to your advantage and move next to people until they revive you.

Nice guide mate! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. And what Dog said - Kill the Keg Runners ASAP. The sooner they die, the better.

A really big thanks... It really helped me :]

Thanks for posting this rulerdude. Great guide.

If I may make a suggestion, regarding logging out and back in: I think you should fill up on everything and go to the island where the invasion is before logging out. This way, when you log back in, the game will only load the one island. This would be especially helpful for players whose computers have low memory.

Thanks again.

Am I the only one who thinks it's obnoxious when people make a ruckus so they can get revived?

Anyway, another tip for when fighting Jolly Roger is to run away when you see his voodoo light up the area. Running out of his 'circle' decreases the chances of him hitting you with lightning or a curse.

My2Cents 06-16-2010 08:57 AM

Great guide! I've never been in an invasion before, only the Treasure Fleet. That was tough, but fun. I can't wait for an invasion now. I can tell you put a ton of time and effort into that guide. It was VERY detailed and explanatory. Great job. :skull:

Rozzwinder 08-17-2010 05:34 PM

I agree with Dog Firestack, Depending on How Many people are on the server the barricades will be more difficult to defend, ( note that when the building you are trying to protect is almost destroyed, jolly will come to attack himself, excluding the remaining brigades left )

Jibby 08-18-2010 07:50 AM

I find that Tortuga invasions are the easiest, with an easy access point to each beach (Port Royal is terrible) and plenty of NPC s and it doesn't have all the twists and turns of other places. Also, make sure your computer can run good graphics if you keep your graphics on high during invasions, although it lags a lot when Jolly does soul storm, so I don't recommend it.

muffin pirate 08-18-2010 02:32 PM

Nice... When Jolly comes into the picture, I like to do somelong distance shooting...(Staying out of his attack range)
