Test Down Once MOre?

Test is down... no date or anything just some maintennace... new islands?

Sven Osymthe 05-22-2010 01:05 AM

I don't really get why so many threads are being posted every time that test is down. There is no way for anyone (outside of the developers) to know when the new islands will come, it will get here when it gets here.

Just because test is down doesn't always mean that something new is coming. It may be the case this time, but people should get the point..

Captain Del 05-22-2010 01:20 AM

How come ever since somebody found those pictures of those islands in the phase files, everybody is expecting new islands to be coming today, or tomorrow?

Sure, it seems realistic that the new islands are on their way, because of the NPCs, the news, the GM events, the phase files.. but what affected the same things, in the same way? SvS, Invasions, Inventory system - all of which were 1. Updates that we were given hints to numerous weeks before they came on Test, and 2. Major changes to the game, that would aquire A LOT of testing.

Now, I'm not trying to be that one storm cloud on a perfect summer day, but lets try to be a little realistic. Now, take a deep breath, and let the islands come when they wish to.

P.S. Sorry if this sounded like an attack on you Dog, because it certainly isn't. Theres a cookie waiting for you on your desk when you come online.

Because as soon as people know something is there, they expect it since "it's obviously there and ready to be out".

The islands are just islands... no cave entrances, no jungle areas... nothing. Expecting something that's just for show to come out isn't going to get you anything except disappointment any time test goes down.

It's possible new islands are coming today, in fact, it's extremely possible these new islands are coming in the next month or so, simply because NPCs don't say random things like, "Notice new shrouded islands yet?" and then keep on saying them forever. Things that hint new things are only up for a short time, so that only a lucky few that are paying attention know it.

And... it's back up. No new islands either, however there was a small update.

How come most of you guys are mean to those who are eager to see more islands like "Raven's Cove/Raven's Cove Island" added to test? "they" are just players who want to see more adventure and not to be yelled at (they get their hopes up which for once is nice to see again "people getting their hopes up" :) ), because yall are saying that no new islands are here and you have to be mean about it. I'm just saying.. It is not nice to say that to people.

Not one part of my other post was "mean". Neither of the other replies were either.

A lot of people are eager to see more islands come to the game, we all understand that. But just because players are eager, does that require a new thread every time the test server is down for maintenance?

This isn't directed at anyone, i'm just saying. There's been 3 or so threads like this in the past couple of days, wondering if its because of new islands. Again, the islands will be here when the developers decide to release them, until then, who knows?

Dog Firestack 05-22-2010 11:21 AM

Sorry bout posting the thread, but I always meant it for people to know that test is down as well. Not just if it's island updates or anything.

Jamesvsthekraken 05-22-2010 03:45 PM

Aye, people do not always post a new thread about test being down just for "more/new islands" coming.

Captain Del 05-22-2010 06:18 PM

Test is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as "the procedure of submitting a statement to such conditions or operations as will lead to its proof or disproof or to its acceptance or rejection; trial."

Test is the place where new updates are tested. As such, it can be expected for Test to go down frequently. After all, lets take in to consideration the fact we've gotten a bunch of major updates in the past month, which have the ability to be updated themselves, as well as, some aspects of them are still not on Open - they need to be watched.

Little late, but thank you for posting this Dog. None of my other posts were meant to be offensive, I just don't see the point in all of the threads coming up, all because of new islands.

edit: Don't really feel like going on about this. However I will say, 3 threads have been posted about maintenance since the new islands were found in the phase files, all of them mentioned islands in one way or another. So yes, majority of the maintenance threads are being posted, simply because, new islands have surfaced :)

Just wondering here but if we were to see something "new" on test if its "more/new islands" or something else, what time Eastern Time would "new stuff" come or would test shut down for "maintenance or for an update"? :/

There is no way to predict what day or time test might go down for an update. But yes, it will shut down for maintenance. There is also no way to predict why test might be down, whether it is a bug fix or an update, until it is back up and we can log on and check out what they did.
