Scammer?
I was just fighting Darkhart with some friends and a basic lower lvl can up,no problem. We fight for awhile and he starts asking how to get unlimited access, young kid maybe still no problem. We tell him how to the best of our knowledge but he keeps asking over and over and over, getting annoying. Then he asks us to get him unlimited access and he will pay us, BING BING BING alarm bells. Now to be fair I play another game were scamming and accounts hacked is a problem so I'm jaded also Pirates does have alot of kids but I figure anybody who can pay you can pay the mouse, Right? The problem is while I wouldnt give him anything others might, should I have reported him? have you ran into people trying to scam on Pirates? or do you think it was just a goofy kid. If this had been the other game he would be on a vacation for at least 72 hours now as I would have reported, didnt here because of the kid factor. What are your thoughts?

It could have been a scam, it could have been legit.
A lot of people in other coutries have problems paying Disney. Disney doesn't seem to be able to take all forms of payment. PayPal, which is universal, doesn't work fo rDisney outsid ethe US sometimes. On the flip side, if some stranger kept asking over and over about how to get unlimited, and just didn;t seem to get your messages, they may have limited chat set. I have paid for one or two others accounts, and had them pay me back. Always a long standing friend who I know very well and know they are from outside the US. Now, if anyone were to approach me and ask out fo the blue for me to pay their account and they pay me back, I probably would report them. Strangers aren't friends, and it is rude, if nothing else, to ask such a thing. |
I had this happen to me once before too. It was a basic member who had speed chat. He said he was from another country, dont remember which, and asked me out of the blue on Tormenta how to get unlimited access. At that time the cards were being sold at Best Buy and Target. I told him about those, and then found out he was from outside the US. He did ask me also to pay for his account. I was thrown myself. I thought that if his parents gave him permission to play this game then they should be the ones he should ask. Its always up to your discression as to reporting someone. Personally if someone persists in asking me something or saying something after I've already given an answer that is when I decide to tell them that I will report them if they dont stop. If they then continue I go ahead and report.

I try not to be such a creepy basic.

I have not experienced this but I would tell them to call Disney and discuss payment options with them. It's not up to us to resolve this problem for them.. this is between the basic player (in or out of the US) and the Disney corporation.

u should have reported him... OHH WELL (that happend to meh one time to,)
|
This happend to me once in Toontown... Here's what happend...
Random Person: O HI, CAN YOO BY MA A MEMBURSHIP PLZZZ?!? The Cookie ( Me ): No, I can't. I'm not even paying for toontown, so why would I buy you a membership if I don't even have one?!? Random Person:... WHAT EVRZ NOOBZ So, ya... People that ask for a membership are weird >.>. |
I always say "Yes, I'll go do it right now" and then log off.

They don't go out of their way to make it accessible to individuals outside of the USA who have tried to pay and pay and pay again. (As evidenced by a friend of mine...she tried several times and ended up playing as a basic player for well over 6 months before she could find a way to get Disney to accept payment.) When her renewal time came up, they again started refusing Paypal. At this time, she and I arranged away for me to buy a gift subscription and she then repaid me. But again, this was with someone I knew well and trusted, not some inconsiderate stranger who feels it's his right to have things done for him. This harrassment tactic is no different than the guy who I "friended" on the forum who then started emailing me asking for help getting an unlimited account. I didn't know the guy, so there was no way I was going to buy an account for him. (It was at this time that I deleted my email account from my "contact me" options.) |
Well if that is true, it is not wise business sense if you ask me.

I'm not sure if this is still true, but if the word "account" appears anywhere in your line of chat text, the entire chat line does not go through. It *appears* to go through on your side, but no recipients get it. (If you have a computer capable of running multiple pirates, you can confirm this by having one of your pirates talk to the other while you watch.)
Assuming that is still a "super-restricted" keyword that Disney prohibits, it is unlikely the "scammer's" text all made it through - equally unlikely that he saw the majority of your responses. If I were in your situation, I probably would have hit the report button, anyhow. That way, Disney gets to decide if it really is against their rules AND he would be auto-ignored for the rest of my session. ------ Kind of off-topic: I really wish Disney would change their handling of "super-restricted" keywords such as "account", "e-mail", "number" or "telephone". Instead of simply eliminating the chat line, they should pop up a warning similar to the warning you get when you type the "F" word. Something like "The COPA regulations prevent us from allowing your message to go through. Please review the Terms Of Service. Adult topics may not be discussed with minors. Further attempts at this type of communication may be reported to local police or the FBI." But however stern the warning, at least let people know when their chats DID NOT GO THROUGH. How many times have you said "Hang on, I'm on the phone" and come back to find that nobody heard your chat? No warning, no nothing. |

I agree. I have multiple accounts and you would not BELIEVE some of the things that do not go through.. If you are on guild chat or crew chat.. and you think someone is ignoring you, it maybe that they just didn't see it. I had two of my pirates on a ship with a crew. I don't remember exactly what I said but it was something like "I need one more" referring to one more Navy or what ever I was hunting. And it didn't go through. I guess because of the word 'one'. But it didn't even say "I need arrr more". None of it showed. If our chat is to be edited or deleted, it would be nice to know that it didn't go through -- some kind of message would be nice - so we know that we are not being ignored or that we need to rephrase the chat. |
Whoops, that's a lively topic - really should be a separate thread. Be nice to have a definitive list of what words exactly, are "super-restricted." Or even have my line of text not "appear" to go through when it doesn't. But we are WAY off-topic. Sorry about that.
Edit: Separate thread on that topic now, at http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...ad.php?t=15798 |
Ive seen this before and it usually turns into a Phishing attempt. Even had it happen to me once here on the forum. Typically they will complain about not being able to get unlimited wherever they are located, Not have credit card etc... Then they will go from there to asking for your account access, using an excuse that they want to see that unlimited is like, want to see that your high level weapons and ships are like etc... At this point when they ask for your account access you should report them.
