New ship repair mini games
I have to say, Ive had my concerns in the past over some decisions to update the game in ways that will drastically change either of its end games, but never more so than now...
The end games of privateering and pvp are where people end up after all the questing has been done and pirates are levelled to the max. With 8 months of your year long subscription to go you have to go some where right ? MINI GAMES TO REPAIR SHIPS I have tried this on test in privateering to fix a normal frigate from red hull. As ever the captain has to let go of the wheel in order to repair. Frigates tend to have less repair holes than some ships and more hit points to repair, in order to repair it you have to complete the games three times which takes a crew 10 minutes with one crew member at each available hole. I hear some of you say 'YAY!! We may have a chance of competing in the major leagues of svs now'. But it would be very unfair indeed to take away from the hours and days and months that some top svsers have spent perfecting their game to be as good as they can be. Same as any sport or hobby people become very involved and work hard to perfect the things that they are passionate about. NOW imagine that the things that keep you paying, perfecting your skills and tactics suddenly has the goal posts moved to a completely different playing field... The mini games to fix ship will crush privateering, you will be sunk while trying to repair, this will make people port to fix taking bounty and score and making pirates wonder why they are privateering if you cannot maintain bounty or score. IMAGINE if when you took a tonic you had to play 5 mini games before you could heal, your enemy/enemies keep attacking, so you would have no chance of survival. DONT get me wrong I see a positive side to the ability to fix your ship this way in normal sailing ESPECIALLY if there was a repair skill that could be lvld and mastered, that would be an advantage across the board and fun to do. But to be honest if we dont feed back and air our concerns this will be live before we can blink and as we have seen in the past it takes a very long time to get over sights like this corrected after they have gone live to the main game. IF YOU HAVE A PASSION FOR PRIVATEERING Your opinion on this is important, because one thing is for sure we are ALL pirates and which self respecting Pirate of the Caribbean would see his opponent caught up in a ten minute fix and not sneek up and take the bounty ?!! We are pirates after all, opportunists all the way ! Some of the results of people being sunk while fixing in a lengthy repair process would be: people porting to fix, the problamatic area of use of other programmes to gain advantage over your opponents would intensify and all manner of complaints would hit disney from disgruntled members who would look for other games to play, and the drama that is associated with ANY competetive area known to man would make the game a very unpleasant place to play. COMPROMISE There is a compromise because we all want to see the game develop but by building on its successes not by quashing them. If we have to have this in privateering one possible compromise could be to allow these repairs to be done by half of your crew when your ship is in motion so that the disadvantage is not so great as making yourself into a sitting duck. [/COLOR]If these mini games for ship repair are implemented in privateering in live as it is on test, privateering will be finished as we know it. I don't think the GM's understand the fierce competition that exsists in privateering, this will surely bring an end to what us level 50's, with nothing left to do, have found refuge in to continue our game play and supporting this franchise.~ Eva

I hope you all understand that it is a glitch. Or at least I think it is.

Eh, I actually like having these minigames to repair ships in SVS. I just think that people haven't gotten used to it yet and are thus overreacting.
PS Kind of hard to read text on default skin. |
To see if this really was going to make a significant difference in sailing, I went ahead and did an experiment:
I first went on Open, and did half damage to my light sloop (through SvS.) I then repaired my sloop the old fashion way, with a timer set, to see how long it would take. With one person repairing on a light sloop, from half hull to full, using the old fashion SvS repairing, it took me about 43 seconds. Now, I then went on Test, and did the same amount of damage to myself light sloop. I then repaired using the mini-games. Under the same circumstances as Open, besides the replacement of the hammer with mini-games, it took me about 1 minute and 30 seconds. As shown in both mine and Eva's experiments, the new implement of the mini-games in to SvS would make everything much more difficult for all players. But take a look at it this way - now pirates, who have spent months on months of perfecting their game, who might have began to get bored with SvS, get to perfect themselves again. They could either see this as annoying, or possibly, even a way to REVIVE SvS, which would bring back SvSers who saw the competition as "too easy." This will force pirates to plan their repairing time wisely, and teach them how to repair it quickly. Basically, the SvS universe has been drawn in to practicing SvS, to sharpen their skills further above their enemies. |
I don't really see the downside to this.
People repair during SvS all the time, this will just make it easier.(IMO) Besides, it's not going to drastically change SvS as we know it, and if people are upset by it, oh well. I'm upset that there's not a second story quest but does Disney care? No, so they're probably not going to care about one little detail such as this. |
Repairing was already an incredibly slow process. Why not make it fun? Be open-minded my friends.

Repairing took forever with SvS, and if you have a huge crew, these new minigames are only going to make it easier, so I don't see why people don't like it.
DOn't you want to repair your ship faster? And if other people are stopped and too busy repairing, all you need to do is go by them and 'POW', hit them while they're busy. |
Is it just me or were we used to be able to repair non-pvp ships the same way we did pvp? I don't get why they would take that away just to put a new encarnation of it. I think the only times I'll use this are Treasure fleets, and when I'm out trying to fill all eighteen cargo slots on the war galleon with royals.

I had no idea that there was such a SvS following that still existed.

SvS was dead to me the first time I saw some low-rent pirate in a light sloop taking out multiple war frigates because he was invincible and speed hacking. It's nice to know people are still privateering but it is a minority sub-sector of the the players. Hope it works out the way you want it to... |
