Thoughts on the Inventory Update...

...or the State of the Update.

I have been playing with this update since it came out. I was there when the first upload ended in stripping our pirates both figuratively and literally. I have oddly fond memories of fighting an invasion holding a free Rusty Cutlass and wearing only "small clothes." I would add a picture but I have been censored. I'll fix it later...

There are some things I like about the Inventory Update and there are some things I don't like about it.

I like F1-F4. I know that I might be the only one but I think that by giving us only four slots for weapons, Disney is making us think a little bit before engaging the enemy. I have heard players crow about realism on one hand and then never question carrying a personal arsenal on the other.

I like the current rate of drops. It is way less than before but way more than the second go-round. I don't like the fact that drops seem to be designed to encourage crewing up and teaming up on enemies. Not a big fan of huge crews because my PC tends to chug and falter and lag. I need a new video card. Or A video card. But until y'all buy me one, I tend to stay off the beaten path.

I like finding new and weird weapons almost as much as I like finding new and weirdly colored clothes. There is a line-up of weapons named after primates. I love those. I also have a bright blue shirt and some ultra-bright, neon magenta pants. All I need now is a yellow belt.

I love the fact that weapon grinding now feels like I am accomplishing something. Treasure hunting is WAY more fun than grinding...

...but I HATE the fact that everyone has treasure fever. Let me explain. I end up at a Darkhart to level and, yes, to "treasure hunt". People are already there and that is OK. Lots of Darkhart to go around. But Darkhart is a weird boss. You have to fight him almost toe to toe or he starts to run around and disappear for a while.

But without fail, there are pirates who are WAY too low to be fighting Darkhart joined in the battle. It goes like this
  1. Arrive at General Darkhart (GD).
  2. Heal knocked-out noob.
  3. Wait for Boss to reset.
  4. Use ranged weapon to keep GD from attacking.
  5. Noob rushes in with sword, "Miss, Miss, Miss, Miss, -10, Knocked-Out, HELP!!"
  6. Defeat GD. Revive Noob.
  7. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

(Please note that I use the term 'Noob" in the fondest possible way. I was once a noob myself and I love to take freshly minted pirate out for training or healing or whatever. But keep it real folks. Level 13 + General Darkhart = Knocked Out. Period. On the third one, you are no longer my responsibility. OK?)

It can get annoying after a while. And add in the "I Have A Great Big Gun" guys who just want more treasure and think NOTHING about redistributing the rep by using one of those Attack Level 60 Blunderbusses (Blunderbi?) to make the drops come faster.

Anyway. Sorry to ramble on. What do you guys really think about all this?

I don't have test myself and I have not seen these updates up close but I love the idea of f1-f4 as well.It really creates a stratagy effect gamewide.I think I will haul four different swords around normally once open recieves this update.

Short post - just included the quotes to be more specific.

I agree. It does take getting used to, but very few people used 5-6 weapons on a single enemy. It also does make you have to think more about what you want, which isn't that difficult.. I mean, it's only two less spots.

I do like the current rate of drops, but I dislike the rarity. I don't expect to always find a rare drop, but when everything has a tonic and some gold.. it could at least include some weapon/clothing.. common or not. Not sure about crewing, it just increases the speed at which you find, not the rate.

I like the idea of the clothing and weapons, but the rate that you find them is rather annoying. As my last part of the post said, I like the rate, I don't like the rarity of the items in the rate.

I agree 100%. Leveling doesn't even come to mind (unless you are trying to be able to use a certain weapon), but rather the sense of looking for treasure.

I had in one of my posts before, that the amount of rep stealing seems to of increased - this is what I meant. Some people who don't even belong in certain areas (such as your example) show up, WAIT for you to attack, then begin to attack after you. It wouldn't be so bad if (see rep-stealing thread), but when you're just there to get loot, find your own enemy, unless you can ask to join in. I understand that everyone wants rep, but at least be considerate of others playing - not everyone is out with the same goal as you. (Not directed at anyone - just a general statement.)

This update sounds awesome. When's it coming to the actual game?

Nelly Darkpaine 04-13-2010 01:19 AM

Personally after one or two knockouts on Noobs, I stop helping.

If they dont learn then, they arent going to. =P

Mark bladeflint 04-13-2010 01:26 AM

If someone steals my rep, I stop attacking the person, then after while, the enemy startes attack the low lvl, then bye bye rep stealer :P.

I'm just mad that the rate of an item drop is so low, because now theres no good places to go, and my test pirate is too low to actually go somewhere good.

Could be sooner than we think I emailed Member Services and they told me they are gonna update the test game with bug fixes to what we reported. So hopefully after that it can come to Live. :)
