What the New Loot and Inventory System Lacks

The update is great. But it is still something that should have been here since BETA (apart from Ship Customization and Trading)...
Here's a list of things that would make the update complete :
*Commerce Trading and Commerce is a very vital component that should have been there. It results in the increase in profit of Pirates.....
*Jobs An essential part of commerce is of course Jobs.... and new skills. New skills like lumbering, tanning, mining, fishing, etc. Which also increases profits, and is what all MMORPG's have. Runescape has loads of these jobs... and the next thing is the most important part of jobs
*Random Collectable Objects All MMORPGs have these small objects which become components of all jobs. Get some cow hide and tan it... collect lumber after woodcutting.... find objects for potions. These objects should actually appear in the game and are what makes up quests. For example. Bronze John wants me to get crab meat. I kill 5 crabs and actually collect physical meat from the floor. Every enemy should have such drops... and thats what I expected of the Loot system
*Weapon Customization This is minor.... but i would like it, even though there is a variety of weapons on test. I mean, we collect a random object - charm - and we use this charm and apply it on our weapons in a place of 'voodoosmithing' Or find a metal hilt from an enemy... or make a hilt from blacksmithing... and then we weld it and attach it to weapons

All in all, Random Collectable Objects is THE most important... Really, I want to be able to kill a stump, actually take its branch, and then sell it in a proper Barter system or random trade... of the time
Give ur ideas in to make it a General discussion for the devs at POTCO to see... rather than it be my ideas alone

The developer diary says they were working on the inventory system, Kraken(doubt it), and jobs for the dockworkers to give us.

I'm almost certain there will be fishing, since it only seems like something we'd have to do in a pirate game... where we're on the beach half the time.

And what about when they had that thing asking kids to show up down in Burbank or somewhere else to talk about what should be in the game? Didn't they talked about repairing ships and things like that? Maybe we'll end up repairing ships for them or even making ships for them?

Who knows, but you're right, we should have jobs. Not necessarily mandatory, but something more to do in the game.

Aye ye be very right Mac. They mentioned that stuff.... but I heard it as a mini game, which is not good.
Another version of jobs can also be more of these random quests... like from Sid Tackem. Or like I thought of earlier - advanced privateering... that is working for the Navy or EITC, to hunt down notorious pirates on a limited timer. Or from Dutch to sack British ships... or British to protect their ships.
This will fuel excitement as well as monetary profit

I must agree here,a mini game really isn't what I'm looking for, especially if it will be as kiddyish as it sounds,I would save minigames for taverns like darts ,pirate dice and more gambling.(Fishing should be done a little like in Zelda,NPC fish nearly everywhere there is water,I would love to fish off the bridge in Port Royal or off my light sloop at sea.Or even far flung locations like off the cliff in the Padres Back Town and in Uncharted Waters.)

Working for the British and introducing the Dutch into the game is a very excellent goal in my opinion.POTCO needs this expansion of quest types.I really like this hunt down a fugitive on a timer idea Midhav....Something that would go anlong really well with this is expanding the islands too, more towns per island and more islands in general.(More room to run around doing things.)

I see you play Runescape too. =) The way I see it, POTCO should be a little bit more like Runescape. Like making our own tonics. And the enemies should drop something special. I know on Runescape I like killing enemies to see what they drop. But as POTCO shows no drops what so ever (besides loot pouches on test) it's not really a special item. And if it dropped something after you kill it (like a branch from a stump) it makes you feel rewarded and acomplished.

Midhav 04-09-2010 02:52 PM

Well yes Angel I have played Runescape before... I was addicted to it... that was until POTCO came. I do play it now and then, because apart from Game Play, the inventory and collectables there are amazing. When POTCO announced such an update for the game I was even more excited. But I was thinking it would be like Runescape's....
I mean, they told us about this a year ago... I thought one year's time meant a HUGE revamp. Truth may have been just ideas of new weapons were coming around that time, along with its models being made. That said, the only great feature of the new update is its New Weapons. But it needs to be more of a better Inventory and Collectables system

Disney can do alot to make this game much more updated. First of all many players experince lag, now there is no way we can all have old computers that are the cause of this. The problem lies with the games engine, this ''bug'' needs to be adressed. Higher quality graphics could come from this fix as well, and this will be needed for the games future. Ship customization or a wider variety of pre-created ships should be implemented into the game along with different types of cannons (in example the cannons at the front of the Flying Dutchman ). More islands such as Singapore, the Prision Fortress, the island where the big Wheel fighting scene happened, along with original islands made for the games story are needed. Remember the old body types our pirates use to be able to have? Many players like them better than these new shall we say ''more realistic'' ones and they should be added back into pirate customization to add more possibilities to make an avatar. We seem to keep talking about having a second story line but we need to look past that to the future, a thrid story line should be planned on for release after the second. A story line along the lines of trying to stop Jolly Roger's plans of conquest would be great. This could come along with a lot of new stronger enemies for the EITC, Royal Navy, Animals, and Undead. I think a good idea would be a new type of enemy that Jolly would create that are evolved past the undead skeletons and even stronger than them, maybe they could be called Wraiths. Storms and weather also would be a great addition to content. A more updated system for guilds has been mentioned by others and would be great. Trading with other pirates and more PVP content would also be a plus to the game. Many of these things should have been in the beta version(s) of this game but were not implemented for reasons that are beyond intellegence (Sorry Disney but you could have done more lol). So as you see if Disney wants to add these things into the game it will mean a lot of work and some more costs for them but will make the game much more better. Ive no idea if they will do this so I dont know the fate of this games future. I think this game is great but they need to do major planning for the future to make sure it makes profit.

Edit: looking at this, more story lines will also mean we may need a higher max Notoriety level and weapon level for stronger enemies.

As of April 13th 2010, it has NOT been released to open servers, it is only available to the privledged few on test. The only place I have seen it elsewhere has been on Disney POTCO fansites and in Disney advertisements for the game.

I think they mistimed the commerical spots that they have out there.

Roger,

Very valid points - but this may be overthinking things. Disney did not intend for this game to have a big economic system. After all, they are pandering to younger kids and its a marketing tool for the films.

We don't need jobs. We're pirates. That implies that we steal and plunder to live. This topic was discussed before.

Trading may come later. If I come across a nifty item I have a duplicate of or can't use - it would be nice if I could trade with someone who had something I wanted without having to pay a merchant all the overhead.

As for trades - maybe minigames but they would only distract I think.

Jamesvsthekraken 04-13-2010 05:51 PM

Ok i like the new loot and inventory system the only thing is needs right now is Trading with other players. :)

Disney has published a book

The Pirate Guidelines: A Booke for Those Who Desire to Keep to the Code and Live a Pirate's Life (Pirates of the Caribbean) (Paperback)
~ Joshamee Gibbs

There are numerous pirate roles described in this book that can be turned into different trades and ranks. :bookishfj7:

Oh you have that book Gingeean? I hear that it was found on the Titanic (LOL)

But it has to be a successful marketing tool for the movies, like LOTRO. At the success of the latter film, I bet you that once the Hobbit has released, loads and loads of people will flock to the theatres. Runescape is a game which has a big but simple economic system. I don't believe that a few random collectible objects will hurt the game. It will just excite the game further, and make people stop complaining for several years at least. Try Runescape, seriously, there you collect items from one enemy and then smith and then create a weapon and then sell it in the market. If the system is big, but made simple like Runescape's, even children younger than me can understand it. One thing we all should note is that lots of adults play this game.

Maybe jobs like Lumbering and Mining are a bit far fetched, but definitely pirates served as privateers. Fishing also to a minor extent can serve as a path to gain profit. Privateering can come in various forms : Fugitive hunting idea i gave earlier, Sinking enemy ships for gold in quest/GM-hired aspect, Protecting the organization/nation-of-allegiance's ships from pirates or other privateer hunters, hunting treasure/merchant ships, sacking enemy city/ town or raiding. Even Blacksmithing like William Turner may help us earn money or build weapons of our own. Voodoo smithing may also be another job. Even ship skills can be a new-ish skill, for pay.

Trading is the most important aspect of any MMORPG. When I talk to my friends about this game and I mention that there isn't trading, they just stare at me in awe and wonder why... Okay what is the definition of 'trades' mentioned here. Nonetheless any for of mini game is just to kiddyish except for taverns games. The game will definitely be silly if it followed Toontown's path of having those baby mini games.

All in all, this game needs to catch up with the standards of LOTRO or Runescape in both graphics, gameplay/reduction of lag and INventory basis

Eliza Creststeel 04-14-2010 02:40 PM

While I'm not overly concerned about improving the economic system of the game, here's my own ideas on how they could incorporate Trade Skills; and they still fit into the current game universe.

BLACKSMITH - Improve or fix weapons, your own or other pirates.

GUNSMITH - Ditto for firearms.

TRADER - Skill would reduce prices for buying and increase prices for selling, also able to locate more rare goods. And in future could facilitate swaps between other players.

SHIPWRIGHT - Repair your own ship or repair others for a small fee. Later, customization options could be reduced or free for people with this skill.

VOODOO SAGE - Improve voodoo objects, make your own potions, etc. This could also develop into other abilities (fortune telling, talking to ghosts, etc.)

TATTOO ARTIST - Add an ability to upload 'approved' art for tats, or do your own for little or no cost.

TAILOR - Locate rare clothes, or 'make' clothes (buying them cheap or produce them over time for free).

Technically, mercenary or privateer would be out - because we already have quests to cover those.

Skills like these could be started with a quest or by 'apprenticing' with an NPC merchant (Ex: Do Blacksmithing quests for John Wallace or Shipwright quest for Darby Drydock) then whenever the pirate performs certain tasks they get XP and could add new abilities (Ex: Shipwright - Repair Hull, Repair Sails, Customize, etc.)
