Graphics after update

Ok I logged on this morning and found an update loading, thought cool maybe they have repaired SvS cannon glitch, SvS sail glitch, sinking ship rep glitch or any number of problems that they installed with last update. Alas was not to be, I instead found my graphics to be in very poor quality. I am lucky enough to have a pc that allows me to run graphics on high and can't guess what they would look like on med. or low. The text in chat is almost unreadable. I tried open gl,directx 8 and 9 and still no luck. Let me know if you find a cure for this problem as I cant fix it. May have to wait for Big D to update again to get graphics back to normal (sigh :sadmh9:)

I will add that I play other online games and I prefer pirates mostly due to the people that play it. They as a rule are a nicer group of players and they are what keeps me here even when the game itself becomes stale. That being said I dont play any other game where these kind of problems happen to this degree and regularity.

Wonder if updating your video driver would help - if they've changed how they do certain functions now.

gingeeann 12-16-2009 06:53 PM

I updated my video driver ... it helped loading time... but still slow then had to go down in graphics quality to medium to improve speed.

StellaInTheSky 12-16-2009 07:35 PM

My video driver is up to date and my graphics are AWFUL. I'm highly upset that playing this game on the highest graphic settings now makes it look like I'm playing on a Nintendo 64.

william kid 12-16-2009 08:09 PM

Aye I updated my driver (good idea thanks) and still looks bad. Tisn't a fit night for man nor beast don't go out in the fog LoL. I also have a section of sky that looks like it has blue bars running across it. I have checked on other games and such and pirates is the only place I'm having the issue.

Sounds like they may be trying to dumb down the game graphics possibly for users without high-end video cards...

StellaInTheSky 12-16-2009 09:33 PM

Well...I emailed them about it via a bug report and here's the response I got:

Greetings fellow Pirate,

Thank you for your email. We are sorry to hear that you have been experiencing less than optimum graphic performance. The recent updates to the Pirates of the Caribbean Online rolled back many of our Guests' graphic settings to medium. This was not intended and we apologize for the inconvenience and the confusion that this may have caused.

We did not make any changes to the quality of the graphics of the game. We recommend checking your graphic options and seeing if they were rolled back. If that is the case just reset them to your desired setting and you should be back to the Caribbean that you know.

Again we apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

Thank you for your email. We at Disney look forward to seeing you in Pirates of the Caribbean very soon!

Best,

David
Technical Support Representative

So basically...it was unintentional and their problem to fix, but of course they make no mention of actually working to fix it. And naturally after mentioning several times that my graphics settings have stayed the same, they still tell me to make sure I didn't screw up.

Stella is not a happy pirate right now. =/

could be but I think that should be the reason for the med. and low graphics setting.

As far as the rolling back of the graphics setting I checked and I'm still at high. I will send another report and see what they say

I ran into this same problem. Resetting my display resolution fixed it until I changed zones. When I changed zones it went right back to the low resolution again. Then I tried running in windowed mode and maximized. Problem went away. It seems to work this way, you just have to deal with the title bar at the top and the taskbar at the bottom until they fix it.

Thanks Jake that did indeed take care of the problem

dont know why lol but it did

When I log on and get the first screen of Nintendo NES style graphics, I hit F7 and then go into the game options and hit restore on the graphics tab. It works BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO IT!

Midhav 12-20-2009 04:51 PM

Whatever it is Will, as Stellain got in his email from Disney ( read above ), POTCO sure well knows of the problems of High Graphics looking like Medium graphics, and i heard they also changed it? Not sure, but i love high graphics now.
