If the real world has conflict then no. You get on when you want to and have fun!
Its ok if your not 24/7!

Real life intervention does not make a bad GM! The game is like a hobby, of sorts, that you do when you have the time. Some are fortunate to be able to get on-line more than others & real life situations change. What makes a good GM is his leadership, the code he/she set up for the guild, and being a respected pirate. Well anyways, that is my 2 pence on the matter...

Agreed Lizzy, you also need to have a good officer core that agrees with your rules and will abide/inforce them when you are not on. If you have have that in place you are fine. Just keep yer officers informed of times away and let them run events and such to keep yer guild running smooth.

RL always takes precident, once that is sorted out then Plunder on! P)

I think it also depends on the type of guild you are trying to run. If you are looking to have a very structured guild with a separate site and planned activities it is really hard with a gm who is not on much.

But if you guild is looser, with more occasional players than those who are on all the time, or with good officers, as Whale said, I see nothing wrong with it.

Just remember you dont have to have your own guild to have a great time!

If you can't spend all day every day in the game, then you are a BAD guildmaster.

Of course, I am exempted from the above statement.

Yeah, as the others have said, it doesn't make you a bad guild master if you are not active that much. Once a day... once a week... there is really no difference. A GM is NOT required to be active 24/7. Sure, its nice to have a GM who watches over the guild, but no human should be expected to be on all the time. A good group of officers... and your guild will be just fine.

Guildmasters don't necessarily have to be on a lot. I agree with Jade. If you are trying to run an organized guild then rarely being on could pose a problem. Otherwise, if you are on just enough to make sure things don't go crazy, you should be fine.

:laughks2: LOL @ Bart!

It will depend on what your members expect as well. As long as you are up front with them so they know what to expect that will cut down on problems too.

A GM not being on much shouldn't be a problem if the GM does as Captain Whale says and lets the guild know what is going on and if is willing to delegate enough power and authority to his or her officers to handle whatever may come up when the GM is gone. For example I know a GM who didn't want anyone to be booted without clearing it with her. She was on a lot so it wasn't a problem ( plus it was a small guild). It could have been a big problem if she wasn't on much. Also stay in touch with at least your key officers.

Oops.

Hehe. My post was to be taken as sarcasm. Specifically, I myself have not been on quite a bit lately due to real life issues, as well as my playing times being morning only (except for the scheduled Friday Poker nights and the occasional evening jaunt). I'm sure there are many Krewe mates that have never met me due to the above constraints.
