What is 3D? How does it work?

3D simply means, “three dimensional.” Pirates Online uses a 3D system that separates game graphics into two colors, one red and one blue. When the game is viewed with 3D glasses, the two combine to make the action appear to pop out of the screen.
Just turn on the 3D option in the Graphics Settings by following these simple steps:

  1. From the Pirate Selection Screen, click the Options button. If you’re already in game, use F7 or the "Esc" key to open the Game Menu. Select Game Options.
  2. Click the Display tab. In the Display tab, click the box beside "3D Glasses." A check mark will appear in the box and you will get a confirmation pop-up window explaining the feature has been turned on.
  3. Click OK to confirm these changes. Save your Settings and exit the Options Menu.
Turn the 3D option off while in game:
1. Press F7 or the "Esc" key to open the Game Menu. Select Game Options.
2. In the Display tab of the Game Options panel, click the box to "3D Glasses".
3. Save your changes and exit the Game Options menu to return to your game.

Do I need special 3D glasses? How do I get them?

Yes, you need 3D glasses to play. The game uses the same red/blue 3D glasses that you’ve seen or used for lots of popular movies, video games and commercials. If you already have 3D glasses with red & blue lenses you can use them to play Pirates Online in 3D.

Do subscribers get glasses?

Yes, all current Unlimited Access Members (subscribers to Pirates Online) should get a free pair of 3D glasses by mail. If you don’t get yours by November 20th, 2009, please contact us at this email address: memberservices@piratesonline, and put ‘3D glasses’ in the subject line.
New subscribers will automatically receive a pair of 3D glasses (while supplies last) after they have been subscribed for a month.

When can I play in 3D?

You can play Pirates Online in 3D any time you want, but we do not recommend using the 3D option during Invasion or GM events. Since these events and 3D require a huge amount of your computer’s resources, running them at the same time will greatly slow down your game experience. Enjoy 3D all you want but remember to take a break from time to time to give your eyes a rest. Also, players on older computers may notice a slow down after turning on the 3D option. If that happens try this;
  1. From the Pirate Selection Screen, click the Options button. If you’re already in game, use F7 or the "Esc" key to open the Game Menu. Select Game Options.
  2. Click the Display tab to access the Display Menu. Below the Display Menu is a Graphics and Audio Menu, make sure you’ve selected the Graphics tab.
  3. In the Graphics tab, make sure all your detail levels are set to “Low.”
  4. Turn off Reflections. Make sure Aggressive Memory Conservation, Shader Level and Rendered Shadows DO NOT have a check in the box beside those options. Also make sure Compressed Textures IS checked.
  5. Save your Settings and exit the Options Menu.
  6. Now try playing the game in 3D to see if changing your Graphics Settings has improved the game’s performance.
  7. Use the FULL SCREEN mode for the best performance.

Yup. If you need additional pairs, you'll need to acquire them through the links D provides on their site or through another venue.

Do we know WHEN they are supposed to come? That is, will they be delivered on Disney time? (6 months from now)

Others here have received theirs already, and Disney states if players haven't received theirs by November 20th (this Friday) to contact them. Hm, to state such a claim surely they've sent out all subscribers' mail already... maybe.

Pardon my poor skimming lol. One would hope. I would love to give them the benefit of the doubt (and it is encouraging that others have gotten theirs) but even with a set date for them to arrive....well, Disney just has not earned my trust.

The 3-D thing is pretty cool, maybe I'll pick up a cheap pair of glasses and test it out. I'll have to make sure they come with instructions though...wouldn't want to put them on wrong.

Well - this is welcome news. As of yesterday I hadn't received mine yet, but I'll keep a weather eye out for them. At least they've set up a response email if we don't have them by Friday.

I wan em. I wan em. I wan em!

*Thinks they would really look cool while driving the convertible!* They look so "Piratey".

Who knows! They may have mailed these out 6 months ago. :pirate81:

I gotta admit that they did do a pretty good job on 3d-ifying the game with this. I especially love how the cutlass swipes and explosions look. It looks pretty good on my home-made pair but I can't wait for mine to come in to really see how it looks. Trying to peer at my screen through marker lines is killing me. :laughks2:

Which pair of glasses do we get? The cool fancy POTCO based glasses? :D Or the cheap and cheesy looking plain glasses? :(

Speedway Master 11-18-2009 02:16 AM

Do Game Card Subscribers also get the free pair of 3d glasses as well, or does this only apply to the credit-card based subscribers?

JM Ohara 11-18-2009 02:19 AM

I've tried the game in 3D. As soon as I heard it was an option I bummed a pair from my nieces Barbie movie. It's ok, but the chat box stays flat, so it looks kinda funny, and the colors are a bit messed up too. Other than that, it's ok.

Davy Keelhawk 11-21-2009 02:55 AM

hmmm, dont have any yet, and its the 20th, eventhough my unlimited access goes out in 2 days....

chelle_p 11-22-2009 10:32 AM
