Talk Like a Pirate Day GM Event

I do not want to be negative, I have tried to be more hopeful and on D's side, but this seems like a sad setup for a repeat of last year, new weapons quests around the beginning of October then the Muertes Moon coming back with all out PVP on Halloween, because we gave the relics back to Jolly Roger by doing the quests. But in the end NO NEW STORY! Maybe Im wrong I soo hope I am but listening to Walter it sounds like the same old stuff we were told by the GMs last year at the first meet the GMs on Devils Anvil. Then the second anniversary and Founders Feast followed by nothing till next year. Please D tell me Im wrong PLEASE!

Juliana Maria 09-20-2009 11:47 PM

I really hope that isn't true. Im slowly losing more and more interest in the game. After my first pirate, I made a second. Now that I finished the second I am once again bored. Sure there are new caps but its nothing new. Only difference is we actually get rep for using weapons. I've done the weapon leveling, Its not new! As of now the ONLY thing keeping me coming back to the game are my friends I've made and me krewe mates. If it weren't for them, the game would be no fun at all. Im really hoping they have a new chapter lined up. Im gonna be really upset if they don't. I understand stuff takes time, but I cant help but be impatient.

Going to add two cents here.

The GM Xavier landed where myself and other guild members were this evening. After Xavier asked if other pirates had engaged the Casa De Muertos Guild along with any activities with Jolly Roger, I answered with " There be not many of our pirate brethren left now. Many have left for richer seas and those of us here desire to be strong. Does Captain Walker and the Marceline Guild know of our dwindling numbers?" His reply was, "Many have travelled to the east where Jolly Roger is not."

The issue of advanced players becoming bored is well known to POTCO/Disney.

Will it be addressed? Part of me would like to keep the faith but I'm losing faith weekly.

Midhav 09-21-2009 03:57 AM

He never even mentioned anything about island invasions? thats dumb.
how long are they gonna keep postponing the kraken, ship custom and the inventory system?

Chris 09-21-2009 02:17 PM

Who knows...... all I know is disney has until December 31st 2009 to have all these updates on open with little to no bugs. Because thats what they promised us at the beginning of the year.

JM Ohara 09-21-2009 02:33 PM

Hate to say it but D does not keep promises. They make excuses, or new promises. They know the state of the game, they either choose not to do anything, or they drop the focus on new players.

The problem is eventually new players will stop coming. When everyone interested has tried and left for lack of new content, then what? Does D have a plan for this, or are they counting this as a long time in the future and so not worth considering?

Chris 09-21-2009 02:37 PM

Exactly its alot eaiser to please the "newer" players in the game so they give them stuff but us higher leveled and veteran players want alot more. Arrrg disney just make the game right.

Bartholomew Foulsteel 09-21-2009 05:27 PM

I expect that what the OP suggests is what is going to happen.

*sigh*

Jeanne Stormcutter 09-21-2009 06:58 PM

I'm sure that the wait of the updates will be well worth our while, there is no need for negative feedback
when the war hasn't even begun yet! The Casa de Muertos Quest ends on the 27th of September,
just wait until that and see the results then. Captain Walter doesn't make empty promises,
everything will simply appear when it's time. The Kraken might not come yet, nor the weapon
updates, but with the right attitude you should be able to enjoy this all.

I also find it really sad to see other players in the events complaining about stuff that doesn't
have anything to do with them, they are ROLE PLAYING events after all. If you don't like the events,
you think they are boring/stupid/waste of your precious time, don't attend, simple as that.
And for the complaining part I'd suggest using Disney's feedback section or an email.

You may not have liked the Muertos Moon, or the Zombie dance, but there are a vast number of
players who did and will like it in the future. The game is not for old players only, so when saying
negative comments about the game please take others into consideration. You are not the
only one who plays the game. For what I know I have never heard Jack Sparrow
complain about the obstacles he encounters in his adventures!

As for the upcoming events and updates... Did you even read what the Casa de Muertos Quest said?
It is definitely not the same as the Muertos Moon, it seems to be something much, MUCH bigger.
And there was no talk of a War last year, right? So I suggest you have a little faith and keep on
training your weapons since they have given you the chance, perhaps you are not able to fully do
the new quests if you haven't, who knows. I believe the Overseers will do the best they can
to offer us a great adventure, like they've done so far!

Um we are approaching the second anniverary with no new story chapter yet, and yes I mastered 4 pirates and had my 5th at 37, before the update, so I finished the quests and yes last year during the first GM event they talked of a war coming and Jolly Roger becoming more powerful so we would need the new weapons that were heading to the carribean! I enjoyed the zombie dance and the all out PvP and have no issue with it coming back. Its just that I along with alot of players out there want a new story line more than anything else. Enough talking in circles Walter and give us an honest answer is it coming soon or not its not difficult to do. And also as a PAYING customer I reserve the right to complain all I want if I am getting poor service!

JM Ohara 09-21-2009 08:40 PM

Well said mate! Indeed, those of us who do pay for it have a perfect right to expect to get something out of our memberships. As a small business owner I would never run my business the way D runs Pirates. I could go into a whole lot, but the bottom line is what matters. The bottom line is if you don't stay fresh and update, you will loose your customers. That's what we are. We are customers of D, and as paying customers should be able to expect to see D using the money we pay to do something actually new, more often than every two years.

People say frequently $10 doesn't buy anything. Maybe, but my 10, your 10, and so on add up fast. Just 10 paying members makes $100, and we all know there are thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands of paying members. No, the games aren't the biggest D draw. Fine, but you can not tell me that they aren't making enough to make that money we pay worth it.

It's down to the bottom line. D will either update Pirates, or they will continue to loose players. Seems to me they are making their choice loud and clear.

Captain Sureshot 09-21-2009 09:12 PM

I agree with the OP. As far as I can tell, the role-playing event was only setting up the upcoming Muertos Moon, a repeat of last year. Of the four Host GMs I had a chance to talk to, none of them gave any indication of anything else while specifically talking of "the curse." If I'm not mistaken, the new sword had already been alluded to on a Developer's Diary and in past utterings by the Marceline Guild. I have no problem with having an event repeated annually.

I do not feel I can say that the wait for any future updates is or is not worthwhile until after the update is released. They usually have not been worth the wait for me. For instance, in the most recent updates the new cave environments were not worth the wait. I like the new look of the caves, but it added little to my actual game play experience. Plus where the heck are the apparitions of Jolly Roger? (Recently I've been playing on a laptop with lower than maximum graphic settings, so maybe it is filtered and I am simply missing it.)

As a long time player, I do appreciate most changes that have been made. POTCO changed three main islands and lowered polygon count in the player models as part of a push to downgrade the game enough so it plays better on low end computers. The game has also made many changes to the beginning play experience, including making that easier. And I think that is all great.

But, as we approach the second anniversary, an addition of a new story chapter or other substantial new content is, in my opinion, long overdue. I would much rather give up "enhancements" to existing parts of the game if it meant receiving actual additions to the game.

Here is a post from the original GM event last Sept.
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...ead.php?t=8037
as you can see alot of rumors and circle talking and empty contradictory stories from each GM.

addendum

Well, I guess I will stand corrected. This was posted on the Pirates Online Grog Blog yesterday afternoon:

Ivan is correct, Casa de Muertos means "House of Death." Oddly, the curse that Jolly Roger brought down on the Caribbean on All Hallows Eve (Halloween) last year was called the "Curse of the Muertos Moon." Coincidence? Perhaps. But the fate we Pirates are facing is NOT a curse. It's something far worse...
So it appears that there will be some other "thing" tied to the Casa de Muertos story. yea.

Bartholomew Foulsteel 09-23-2009 04:44 PM

I guess we'll see. Or maybe not....
