Poll: New Water

Who thinks that the water at sea needs a redoo? It might be just my setup but I am on high quality and the water just isn't a good as it could be.Perhaps because im using open GL.But does anyone else think the water should be improved? Note this is my second attempt at a poll I apoligise if it dosen't work.

The very LAST thing I would want is a non-update update. I want a new story chapter before we make anything look better.

CarribeanThunder 09-17-2009 09:14 PM

What I want to see at sea is not a redo, but some storms, Aqua Funnels ( water tornadoes ), Rain, Hail, Snow, Thunder, waves even. I basically want weather elements. PDF has minor earthquakes, not TOO minor, but ok.
Anything weathery is something I wanna see, especially at sea ( joke drums ).
A whirlpool would be nice, come to think of it...

If you want better water, you may just want to upgrade your video card. My ocean water is eh, okay... but on Zilly's computer, WOW. It's not the same water I have. Hers has ripples and certain subtleties that show how beautiful this game can get. Yes, I'm serious.

Yes , I would like a detailed "ocean" but not just the basics, I want weather,
Waterspouts, high seas dead calms , maelstroms, and even a tsunami and hurricane,
I would sail through that any day.

I say, not at this time.
There is always room for improvement, and everything should be improved if possible in due time. Its about time, a new story chapter were due mateys!!! ;)

Keep sending suggestions to big D...
Its where all the wonders they create come from... well in theory.

My quality update :I changed to direct x8 today to see it and the waters much better but I couldnt stick with it due to some display ploblems when an ememy ship was engaged.Tried x9 too, crashed as soon as it started to load. Well its better than after the port royal update when it reset the mode and put me to low quality and it stayed that way for a few weeks, then the game would crash all the way to when they updated tortuga.I started to get into game details after that.

Dr. Zeppers 09-17-2009 11:36 PM

That does happen especially when they update the launcher, which they recently did. Display settings get set back to default, and if the player doesnt realize it and go back in and update them per preference, things can look different and take them by surprise.

we need better waves and being able to go a bit under water

Eliza Creststeel 09-18-2009 03:47 PM

Why is this a question?

Personally, I think the sea looks amazing - especially at dusk or dawn...

It is in some formats, but I made this before I went experimenting with the direct x's .x8 almost doubled the water detail but it was giving some lag and visuel problems when a man o war was engaged on the sea. The problem with the current look it has for me is that it looks like a very dark , solid color ,fractal patern. Although its better then the low quality which has no waves anymore. But the water was much better with the x8 , it would have stayed, but when man o wars are turning white and red again like a slow siran on an ambulance I cound't keep it that way.But like Sven said,it can be a matter of video card too.As far as dusk and dawn goesthe sky is working great for me though. An other thing is that D said they were downgrading on the polygons too that might have hit some of the settings already.

Here's some sample screenshots of what I mean.

You should be able to see the more than subtle differences between the two. The reflections, especially. On mine, it's just a mirror image overlayed on the water. On Z's, the reflection is distorted with the water. I didn't manage to get a shot of the sunlight hitting the water on my system but it's nowhere near as good on her's.

Aye good shots, when I turned my settings to direct x8 i got something very similer to yours. But zillys there is amazing. It could be my computer .You guys are probably going to think its a no brainer but I play on a compaq laptop so that might be part of it.:mybadki6:Also it makes me think of how the x9 would look but it crashes on me first second or to of loading.

Sven Niscadae 09-19-2009 01:33 AM

We actually use the OpenGL settings. DirectX 8 has some texture issues and DirectX 9 has other effects, i.e. fire turning black, etc.

Machazzard 09-19-2009 11:54 AM

I have no idea what x9 or x8 is, as well as OpenGL. Could I have a short explanation of that?! haha thanks
