Rambleshack?or Bilgewater?

The tutortial island at the begining of the game has been known to me and the wiki as bilgewater, the name is on a disney island layout pic on their site and the wiki.Im almost thinking that the tutorial island is not bilgewater or is not called that.i wached a video online of the new tutorial , the island at the begining is slightly changed i think , bo becks ship is on the other side of the island , and the layout of the buildings exept the jail are different.but then on the video the guy clicked on the map and the island was called RAMBLESHACK. perhaps its a new island or one story wise or the island never had an offical name before?we might ask the D staff there just to check for reference. Although if it turns out any way,I would like to see the info about the old version of the island on the wiki if it has to be changed because of the things you have to do on the island in the tutorial.Like you have to fight a gravedigger and bandit now.Sorry Zeppers you do so much work already really.Well jst figured I mention that the islands called 'Rambleshack'on the map and its got a new layout. So it might be a new name since the tutorial update or was it on the map before...:piratewheelgo2:

I have been going through the startup sequence numerous times for the wiki lately, so im quite familiar with the opening sequence.

Im confused, I have never seen this referred to as "Bilgewater" where did you find that reference. Never even seen it referenced in this fashion in the wiki (got link?)

The starting island has been "Rambleshack" the entire time i've played the game.

It does not have a new layout, they took out the barscene, and moved the Will Turner cutlass orientation into that room. There are also 2 new skeletons after that, but other than that there is no new layout unless it was just changed in the last couple weeks without being put on test first (not likely).

There may be a situation, where one is the "Ocean/Server" name for the startup sequence, and the other is a reference to the island.
But i've NEVER heard of "Bilgewater" as a reference to a place in the game.

Edit: Well I did a search on the wiki, and see there are references in that regard. Likely needs updating like everything else, but not one of those areas are frequented by the majority of wiki users so it hasnt been a priority, most are using the wiki well beyond their having started the game.

Aye, I tend to look up geography.Sometimes I be a landlubber.

Their initial sketches say Bilgewater... but other information shows it to be Rambleshack. I manage posts on 'another' wiki and this article had to be corrected after an update.

I've been playing since Feb 08, and I have never heard of it called Bilgewater.

I do see the page on our wiki, never noticed it before.
As far as geography is concerned, I am positive its not a real island, but then again neither is Port Royal or Tortuga (they were cities, not islands).

Unfortunatley very often, wiki content of this nature isnt updated until inaccuracies are pointed out by its visitors, due to their being in less frequented/accessed areas of the wiki.
I believe most wiki users come to the wiki to get quest information, we have worked hard on updating that, and adding new content as it comes along. (Not all quests are up to date, but we are working on them constantly)
Its hard to find documentation on the quests themselves (have never seen any other wiki document them as thoroughly as we do), recent changes have them all changed, we are working on getting them updated presently.

Will add that island on our "todo" list, thanks for letting me know.

Other than that.. I say its Rambleshack, only appears to have been "Bilgewater" on their early drawings/artwork.

Bilgewater is a location we can choose here on POF. Never seen the island before, but it's in the phase files, and looks exactly like rambleshack.

Tortola you say.... I believe thats the name of one of the British Virgin Islands.... Where did you find that?Any screens or just sketch?Ive got a globe next to me but it dosent show all the islands names due to size but i think i've seen Tortola in books and on Google Earth.Like I said geogrophy fiction and real, is a large interest of mine.

EDIT: I wanted to ask if you had any pics of the phase file Bilgewater?(is it exactly the some buildings and all or just the shape?)Are there any other interesting islands in the files?

CarribeanThunder 09-17-2009 09:30 PM

After copying/pasting the picture of "Bilgewater" onto Microsoft Word, enlarging the picture and zooming in and out, I made out one word that's in the grassy ( or green ) areas.
It says "Game", and that word below the "Game" in the more circlish green area seems to me like "Area". Any ideas?

Dr. Zeppers 09-17-2009 11:34 PM

That image appears to be a concept image of sorts. Could be simply from a real early idea they had as they developed the game. It may have also been named Bilgewater in beta (I wasnt around then). But I have always watched it download "Rambleshack" everytime I install the game, and its always been referred to as Rambleshack in the live game as far back as I know (Feb 08).

Game area, etc.. are likely conceptual ideas from artists as far as where on the island the players would be transferred to play the game, or the areas that would be accessible by the player.

As long as I've been playing (Oct 2007), it's been Rambleshack.

Dockwrecker The Privateer 09-19-2009 04:02 PM

Are there any of those phase file or pics of some early islands? I know theres a good one on the panda 3d screenshot section and on a topic by macironhawk in the screenshots mini forum of this site.

Dr. Zeppers 09-19-2009 04:40 PM

Other than screen transitions, the phase files really do not show ANY islands.

Some rough texturing, shaping, masking, etc perhaps, but one cannot open the phase files, and see the islands and their layouts.

Remember that the Phase files are simply the resource files for the game. If you dont see the image in the game anywhere, then its not likely in the phase files.

bartholomew bladeroberts 09-19-2009 04:44 PM

wait are you saying theres another island in the phase files i've heard there was another island in beta that got taken out is that it (its also rumored to be the dock conected to the island which is out of frame where all your pirates are)

NO noone here is saying this at all, not even sure where that idea came from, thats how rumors get started.
Even if there was a new island somewhere in the phase files we would not necessarily be able to identify it.
I really believe people misunderstand what the phase files are, and what you can find in them. They are code/graphic/sound resource files.
Images used in the game are in some cases pulled directly from it, but in most cases are "Built" from the content in the phase files.
Like being able to see sand, trees, rocks, and water, but you cant see how they are going to be put together (and even that is really trying to simplify the explanation).

The question was, is the first island we start at named Bilgewater, or Rambleshack as shown in a conceptual image on Potcos official site.
