Re Latest Update: The "L" Word

OK, is no one going to mention the horrible lag in the caves since the latest update?
And, stay in the caverns long enough to complete a task - the problem carries over to other areas.
Feel free to move this to rants if you must :pirate6:

Yes, the lag has been SO bad the last 2 nights, I even suggested we go play on open! (We stuck with sailing on test... but geez!) Hope that everyone is sending in bug reports about it... as it is we can't even complete tasks that require us to go into caves.

Skip ;)

Hadn't been on test in a few, but just checked it out...you are right!!! The lag in the caves is TERRIBLE!!!!!!! Have to add the lag on PDF outside the caves isn't as bad, but it is still bad...

Monday is official Krewe test day. We'll all go into the caves and send reports.

Bartholomew Foulsteel 09-07-2009 03:27 PM

Here's the update:

Test has a brand new problem with lag that wasn't there before. At first it was thought to be related to the caves, but with further exploring, Lizzy and I have discovered it's pretty much any enclosed area. Walk to close to a wall--lag. Go through an archway, lag.

We have reported and are continuing to do so.

I'd recommend others do too. We don't want this "update" making it to open.

combatlizzy 09-07-2009 04:24 PM

Aye, it is true...today we tested around the islands. If you are in an open field like KH or Fort Charles the lag is almost nill. But any enclosed area, even in the towns, increases the lag. Almost impossible to do a quest at this point....

Any difference today?

Bartholomew Foulsteel 09-08-2009 02:35 PM

I haven't checked today, but here's what I found out (and reported) yesterday.

When you first logon to test, no problems.

Some areas outside of caves are laggy. At least one of the gypsies (don't remember who--Lucinda?) and also arounf Garcia Avaricia.

Once you hit a laggy spot like that, the effects stay with you. Any time you get near vertical structures (walls, rocks, archways) you lag up.

Caves are the worst. Immediate lag causes you to be unable to actually play in there.

Once you leave a cave, if you get near vertical structures, you lag out as bad as if you were in the caves.

Closing out the game and restarting helps.

Compared to open (same computer, same settings) test is horrible. Spent the morning on open in Beckett's quarry with no issues.

I confirm Barts findings.
I tried test today, stinks on ice.
Switched to open, works fine, even on the more crowded servers.

swashbuckler II 09-09-2009 02:26 AM

I dont know what you are talking about, They work fine for me on test

combatlizzy 09-09-2009 03:53 AM

Log on test earlier & it was fine until I entered Royal Caverns...Lag was terrible & it followed me out...
Couldn't even fight in the Caverns...So I gave up and went on open..

whiskey 09-09-2009 04:26 AM

I went into PDF caverns just a moment ago, it lagged badly enough I could no longer move my pirate!

ninety3rd 09-09-2009 05:14 AM

Yep, lag here too.
Kept getting worse, then tried to approach Lucinda and came to a dead stand still -- couldn't move. Finally able to get the map to open and changed to the other server to get away. Worked fine again after that.

Good news! When I logged into test this morning, a brief POTCO update, and voila! The caverns are playable again!

Bartholomew Foulsteel 09-10-2009 12:33 PM

Interesting. Gonna check it out.

Of course there's no Release notes....

EDIT: I have checked it out and it does appear to be fixed. Cursory only, though.
