What I Would Like

First off, NEW CONTENT. Before any other changes, I would like to see the new story chapter--all the way to a final Boss Battle.

Next, I would like to see sailing improved. Add wind direction (variable) with speed (also variable) so that sailing is more like sailing, and less like motoring aorund. Also, with these changes it would also make sense to adjust what ship speeds are, and how different ships and sail plans handle (fare-and-aft sails beat better into the wind, square-rigged ships sail better running).

Next, I would like to see a better selection of ships and ship customization. Not only are the hulls ridiculous, but the sail plans are just wrong. The Light Sloop and Sloop are indeed sloops, but the War Sloop is actually a Yawl. The Light Frigate is a Brig (minus the spanker sail), while the Frigate and War Frigates are actually Galleon-rigged. The Light Galleon is rigged like a Brig (minus the spanker again), but the Galleon and War Galleon are fully rigged ships. So, I would like a choice of hull size (light, standard, and War still work) and a choice of sail plans. Choose between fore-and-aft sail plans or square-rigged. From there choose the specific sail-plan according to size of boat and type of sail. All of this affects your ship's speed and maneuverability.

Next, ground combat. I think it's pretty good, but the ability to personalize yoru fighting technique went away when the update hit allowing us to retrain skills, In order to use certain combo moves we have to use the move before. I would like to see players be able to use just the combo moves they want to use, and also be able to plce them in any order they like. Why can't a pirate just do a stab? The NPC's do.

Clothes. I'm getting tired of seeing all the cool clothes the NPCs have and knowing I can't get them. They got striped pants, and shorts, and blue hats and all kinds of things. Also, the boot thing is cool, but boots just weren't that common during the time. Shoes (with thhe big ol' buckle) were, and there's at least ONE NPC I've found wearing them. How about sailor's slops? Maybe the cooler and cooler clothes could be made available based on level? Meaning, a level 7 player could get basic slops or stockings and shoes, but the full Captain Jack outfit only for those who master?

HAIRSTYLES! Jack Sparrow runs around in three movies with long hair and dreadlocks. Long hair on men was COMMON during the Golden Age of Piracy. We need (males and females) more hairstyles. Mohawk? We have a mohawk but no long hair? That makes no sense.

That will do for now. Of course, I have a thousand other suggestions, but these will take 2 years.

I want a baldric - barbosssa has one - definitely the coolest pirate accoutrement. you should be able to wear a headscarf with a hat, too.

The hull designs are odd - especially that twisty ram on the frigates.

I want to see a Xebec and East Indiaman in the game both fully customizable.

I have a thread discussing new ship types, and I just posted pictures in it. http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...ad.php?t=12623

As well I would like a cutscene for porting/launching a ship, and also a cutscense every time you visited a main movie character like Captain Jack Sparrow ,
Gibbs or Tia Dalma.
Besides that , I would like to see a actual Man-o-war Ship sailing around Kingshead-Pades.

Also More movie characters in the game , like Marty , Pintel, Regatti, Annamaria,
Lieutenant Gellite, Mercer, Tweak, Maybe the pirate lord Jochard and Commodore Norrington.

The idea of Custom Ships would be nice - it may even take away the need (or the request) of another ship level, if you could get to customize the ships already in the game (maybe just the War Ships... seeing some mini-souped up frigate somehow just seems wrong :D )

That and I'd love to get my hands on them EITC Jackets and Vests ;)

The new ship speed measurements are actually kinda cool - since "real sailing" will never be in the game (it would just be too "unreal" for the POTCO world ;) - that and theres another sailing game that others can play if they want that).

Bartholomew Foulsteel 08-31-2009 09:33 PM

YES! A baldric!

Juliana Maria 08-31-2009 11:35 PM

Love the ideas Bart. Especially the customization options for both pirates and the ships. They just don't look realistic enough. It's true, most of the pirate clothes available look to fancy to be pirate clothes. I've also been dying for some curly hair on the girls.

I really do hope they have these on there to do list because even if they released a new outfit once a month or little things every so often, it would give us SOMETHING to look forward to. To know that there's a new outfit or hairstyle being released would at least keep things fresh.

Chris 09-01-2009 12:00 AM

I love all those ideas I hope all of them make it to the game. But as most of us know Disney aims for the kiddies so more variables for sailing wont be "easy" enough for them to understand and all they will do is complain complain complain.

Midhav 09-01-2009 11:04 AM

bart ur amazing in ur knowledge of sailing and ships. im sure that the starting design of all our ships need to be changed and using ship customization we can be able to make the back area small, wide or low. similarly we should be able to choose the sail types and way they are kept which ultimately increases speed. on the note of hairstyles and clothes, yep they need a change and thats all coming next month because as u see the latest developers diary promised us whats to come for the next three months and the new loot and inventory system is the last leg of it after which we'll be seeing islands, the new story chapter and whatever comes. on boss battles i really think that they need to have multiple boss battles in one quest. like entering the dauntless looking for a note and then battling it or something.
for more plz check my thread on ideas and suggestions bart

Thanks mate. I'm the son of a son of a sailor. Also, I have sailed everything from small catboats and sloops up to crewing the Lady Washington (you might recognize her as the Interceptor in the first POTC movie, but she was used in all three). Even before I was sailing I was learning about sailing and even played a game in my youth called Don't Give Up The Ship, which was a Napoleonic era sea battle simulation.

As for making sailing more difficult, it really shouldn't. You can still steer the ship just as you would in the game now, just affect spped based on hull length, sail plan, amount of sails, wind direction, and wind speed. The game would do all that automatically for you.

Pirates tended to favor sloops (or in other areas of the world other fast, light ships) because sloops could point higher into the wind (great for outrunning big Navy ships-of-the-line) and had a shoal (shallow) draft, so they could take them into shallows and up small rivers where the bigger ships couldn't go.

JM Ohara 09-01-2009 04:29 PM

Okay Bart, you are very inspiring! I agree about the long hair thing. On the subject of clothes, ya got me started, so here goes...

1 Yes, we do need different clothes

2 Would it really kill D to make the swatch color match the color of the item? Half the time you click blue and get teal, click brown and get... PURPLE?!

3 Why, for the love of pete, do we only get to pick one page of outfits? Oh, wait, we don't. We can't toss our starter outfits. What self respecting pirate would have had only 3 outfit choices they got to pick themselves. Come on! We should get at least 10 choices of our own, say 3 pages. And a 4th page dedicated to quest items only.

4 We girls need to be able to take off our shirts. You guys are going what?! Wait, hold the phone here, that would rock! Wrong!! I mean take off a shirt and wear only a vest. Yes, some of the vests for girls are way too open in front. Those should indeed still require shirts. But the closed vests you choose from in create a pirate, ones like that, where it's a tank top, yes we should get to wear those shirtless. There is nothing at all wrong with girls in tank tops!

5 Why can we not buy necklaces and bracelets? We are pirates! Wear the wealth! Real pirates would have shown off their worth, why can't we?

6 Is there any reason the jewelry quest jewelry has to be so ever lovin ugly?! If we go through all that mess we should get something wearable!

7 We do need new jewelry to pick from.

8 As with clothes, we need more pages for jewelry if we get more jewelry.

9 Tattoos! We need more pages for those, and also a dedicated quest tattoo page.

10 Mobile tattoos. Each pirate should be able to pick the tattoo they want to wear, and then drag and drop it to where they want it on their pirate. Say what? Ya, ink wherever you want it, within reason. Back Tattoos on guys. Upper arm ink on girls, lower arm ink on guys. Ankle tattoos on those of us who go barefoot. In said same vane, no limit to the number of tattoos one pirate can have. If you want to plaster your pirate, why not? (For this to work tattoos should also be sizable and not just drag and drop. There would have to be a button to fine tune make the tattoo larger or smaller.)

11 We need better tattoos, or at least more. And come on D would it kill ya to fix Lala's invisible tattoo? The chest one that does not show up on girls? If we get the thing we should get to see it on.

And now, on ships.

I could care less about ship customization or all that. I sail to sink and that's it. However, as some have suggested, we need Captains Cabins. Not on the light class ships, there isn't room. (but let's face it those are so ridiculously off sized to real world ships to pirate size it's not funny.) In the mid weight and war ships, there is most decidedly room for a captain's cabin. The sloops even have a door! Or the regular one does. Haven't been on a war sloop to know. But that space between the stairs on the galleons and frigates would make a perfect Captains Cabins on those ships. In the Hollow they have a home. Why can't pirates?

If they gave us captains cabins, we could have a dresser. One central location to change our clothes, jewerly, and tattoos. How much easier than running all over creation!

Skills

We need one more weapon. Fists. Pirates would have been skilled at hand to hand combat. Why can't we use it?

Emotes

I want three new emotes, maybe 4.

Sit. Where as you can sit in a chair, on a wall, on a crate, and dangle your legs. Pirates would not have stood everywhere every second of the day. They woulda sat too.

Cross your arms. This would be a running emote, like flip a coin or dance a jig. Just something to do while you stand around with your mates, or are on deck of your ship.

Handshake. You would have to go up and press shift for that one, as it would be an interaction. But, I mean a piratey handshake. Where as they shake hands with their wrists touching as a sign of trust. If you're holding on to the other person's wrist, you can't draw swords on them. Or that's the way I understand that handshake went. This could also be used as a congratulations for whatever reason.

I'll leave to D to figure out what, but there needs to be a guy only emote. Girls can primp but guys don't have one that is just guys. They should get one too.

One last thing. You should get to choose if your pirates are right or left handed. People can be one or the other or both, why not pirates?

That's enough from me, and quite more than enough I should think. Bit of food for thought that.

combatlizzy 09-01-2009 05:09 PM

Boss, you have me totally confused about the ships...Well you know me...I know that they sail & get sunk (more the latter in my case).
But the new clothes & hairstyles would certainly be awesome additions. I think that I have posted before that the hairstyles & clothes on potbs are alot more becoming & pirately. But again that is the only thing I really found interesting on that site. Mates should definitely be able to have long hair & the clothes need to be more varied. The new pirates that you can create on POTCO are different...but we need an expansion more like in real pirate days....

Crim 09-01-2009 05:19 PM

Hmm, many new improvements would be nice, but here's a few extras to throw in there.

1. New islands based OFF the movie, not the creative minds of the Disney Staff, such as Isle de Pelegostos, Isla Cruces, Shipwreck City, Singapore, Davy Jones' Locker, etc.

2. Make the islands more realistic with more NPC's and buildings. Tortuga is supposed to be the big bustling Pirate Port, yet there are a very small amount of buildings and people, along with Port Royal. I'd prefer to have these look comparable to the movie so it truly seems like you're playing along with Jack Sparrow and the rest of his crew.

3. More Boss Battles, such as battling Jolly Roger, having a ship battle against Davy Jones, going against the Kraken, fighting Beckett, etc.

4. More guild options. To allow more than the ranks of officers, preferably Co-Guildmaster(s). Along with a guild options page (I know there's one already, but to include new pages), such as: A guild bio, guild rules, and a daily news feed that would let members be aware of changes and events within the guild.

5. Movie character NPC's. I'd like to see a bit of the Pirate lords interaction within the movie such as Sao Feng, Mistress Ching, etc; along with Governor Swan, James Norington, Davy Jones, Jolly Roger, Cutler Beckett, Pintel, Ragetti, etc.

6. More realistic ships. It seems as though the Black Pearl is really the only "normal" looking pirate ship.

7. More Pirate features that would include: having crew members walk the plank, if you die at sea, be put into the brig (once you bust out, you can walk back up on deck and continue pirating), captain's quarters, allowing members to go below deck and man the broadsides, having crew members set sails, being able to port at the island docks, being able to sail to your ship from a dingy, etc.

8. Allow more avatar features such as hair, clothing, emotes, and expressions.

Hopefully some, if not all, will be added into the near or distant future. But then again, beggars can't be choosers, so as Jack Sparrow would say, "One can only hope."

I love a lot of these ideas... and I'm gonna throw in a wrench... no not a wench... make the goodies cost money! I've earned all this loot blowing ships outta the water, hacking and slashing the bad guys and running my butt off on quests. I WANT TO SPEND IT!

Bartholomew Foulsteel 09-13-2009 03:15 AM

I agree. We should pay for stuff. Make me spend my loot. Pirates tended to blow their money quickly and had to go out again plundering for more.

Machazzard 09-13-2009 04:19 AM

well, for another 2 cents that i'd like to add....

1) more interactice npcs. for instance, when youre sent to go find npcs in town, they should be walking around town, stopping to tip their hat to the nice, old seemstress. and when the girl outside of tortugas bar (by the well) walks by bill (the chicken man. it is bill right? sry not home to check) he might lose focus on his chickens and stare for a few seconds. maybe once in a while one of his chickens would get loose and youd see him chasing after it. these are just npc actions, as opposed to them just standing there, lifeless..

2) pintel and regatti- these two would be sailing in a sloop all around charted waters in the caribbean. of course, theyd both be in their woman disguises (lol). at level 18-25 youd receive a quest to achieve a "compass" to locate them. once u locate them, u simply grapple their sloop and board. they will sell random things. this could be a good opportunity for disney to incorporate NEW clothes/jewelry/tattoos

(added to last post)

once in awhile pintel and regatti will sell extremely powerful tonics. mayb even a monthly quest can be aquired from them.

maybe they could sell double xp. they would last like an hour and would cost aywhere from 30-40k each time. but, u could only purchase them once every few weeks.

basically theyre a fun surprise almost everytime you run into them. and at the right price, your hunt is worth it
