Your Thoughts on Having Both Gender Pirates?!

I was wondering what you thought or if you have both Gender of Pirates ? I have 3 Lassies & 1 Guy. Jade Willows, Destiny, Belle & Dread (Pirate) Roberts (yes Princess Bride) who is my Guy. I just created Dread & haven't played with him much yet but did this morning. I crewed with a couple of guys & I did tell them I was a Lassie not a Guy. They kind of flipped. Good thing we sank & I found other things to do. They weren't mean just couldn't understand why I'd have a guy Pirate. I know several people that have both. I find it interesting & even feel & act a little different when I use him. All of my Pirates have their own personality of course. It is kind of freeing to be a guy for awhile! Share your thoughts/feelings on the subject. I am interested to hear what you all think. BTW I am up for crewing on a ship as a Cannoneer any time, Day or Night. It is my favorite thing in Potco> I was up all night Blasting with an awesome crew I found. So I will crew with any of you Proudly & I have to mention to the McRaging Guild that beings Li Trubaine is a member & also my Pixie Pal I kind of feel like you are the Pixie Piratez Sister Guild. You are very lucky to have her & from what I hear you are a great Guild! May the wind be always in your sails Mateys!!

I have two guys and one female pirate - there are plenty of people out there that just don't understand why I'd do that, but it's up to me, not them, and I like playing as both. So pthbbb :P

When I first started playing (back in 2007) I'll admit I was a bit 'leery' of the 'cross-gender' pirate... espically since the game was new and everyone was on their first pirate, I wondered why someone would do that...

(Note here: Though 'leery' - I was never against it, it was more wondering than anything and never said anything to a few that I did meet - only because I felt that in a virtual world - be what you want ;) )

Now, I don't even think about it - I know several 'gender-switched' pirates, all are good people, and have never even given it a thought in some time until you actually posted this :)

I think ya just gotta take it with a grain of sand and play on :D

Well I got 3 guys and 1 girl (that girl is my sis's pirate)
It doesnt really matter unless someone starts flirting with the same gender or something.

Machazzard 06-12-2009 03:18 PM

HAHAHA nice thread. Yah, I have 3 guys [Machazzard (40,mastered), Mac Machazzard (29), and Firehazzard (11)] and i have one girl [Mac's Assassin (12)] I don't play her as much but when I do it seems that whenever I need help I get it easier 10 fold. lol I wonder why....??? oh well....

I had a female pirate. Don't play her very often, but I have her on my now basic account.

I have no issue with it personally. Unless its that guy playing a female pirate that keeps reminding me.. that shes a he, or vica versa. If you play male and female pirates, dont expect your friends and fellow pirates to be keeping your gender straight!

Have fun mateys.

I don't see anything wrong with the gender change in pirates. If that makes the game more interesting for a person than "Have at It". When I started POTCO, I created a male pirate whose name was Goliath. But, I didn't feel at ease with him, so I created a wench toon. Goliath was soon deleted...and all my pirates have been wenches since. But, that is just me. Everone is different. So peeps, If it werks, then------->

I only have 2 pirates at the moment, Sven and Adelie. The answer for myself (and I'm sticking to it) is...

THE CLOTHES!

Yup. That's my reason. Everyone in the guild does seem to keep my gender straight just fine though. I don't personally have a problem with anyone who plays a different gender. There are lot of girls who play guy characteres (in other games as well) just so they won't get hit on by others. Doesn't really matter what gender you play, just the person behind the pirate.

I don't see anything wrong with this. I have many friends that have different gender pirates and love playing both. Personally, I don't care to play as male pirate. I did make a male pirate but soon after deleted him. I prefer to play my girl pirates.

I just want to add part of why I made a guy was because a very good Pixie Pal of mine is a guy & plays with his daughter on Pixie Hollow (very cool Daddy) so I wanted to experience what he does to an extent & I also thought it would be fun seeing things from a different point of view! Dread is special, I think my girls are more fun clothes wise etc. Yeah :) but I enjoy him for a totally different reason.

We have a couple of family members that play. I have two guys (Tobias and Micromorgan). My son's Pirate is Nathanial Keelbreaker. Auntie Grizelda is the fourth. We have one guy and two girls on test.

I'm the primary player at this point. My wife and daughter don't play much so the girls aren't real active right now.

Once in a while I'll work on leveling them, but I mostly like being Toby.

Two guys (Nate and Bucky) and one KICK AFT Girl (Ms. Eliza)...

When people ask me why I like playing Eliza more, as a guy - my answer is simple. If I have to look at the backside of pirate running around the islands for long periods of time...

It's nice that the view is a pleasant one.

In all honest, they each have their own personality that developed. Eliza is a big, sweet girl who is like a big sister most of the time. And the way I play her, a lot of other pirates give positive responses.

I don't see a problem with having a character that is not your gender. I personally have four guys, three on open and one on test. I did at one point have a girl, but I never logged on due to not wanting to grind and quest again, so now I stick with one pirate. If a boy wants to play as a girl or vice versa, then its no problem at all.

Sapphire Sweetfeather 06-12-2009 06:53 PM

Well Bug, I am so jealous that you made Dread before I did! lol I totally thought of doing it the other night because of Princess Bride. Anyway, to the point......

As a mom, I have a girl pirate and a boy pirate. Grace my daughter helped design, and yes my three year old desided on the reavealing top, not me. Michael is designed with the help of my son. He likes to shoot the skeletons. Go fig!

Michael doesn't get out as much as Grace, but that's because it's easier to play when the kids aren't around and well, my sista pixies know who Grace is and it's alot more fun when you have friends to play with. I should play with Michael more, especially after being hit on, not once, but TWICE while being Grace. One was much more offensive than the other.

I think that is a strong reason why some of the ladies play as guy pirates, to limit the probably non-stop being hit on.

Not that I ever do that...

It is probably worse in games where the chat isn't as restrictive as in a Disney game.
