Today's the Day...

Although BBK celebrated its anniversary on Saturday, today is the actual First Anniversary of Black Bart's Krewe. The Krewe was started after consulting with my two in-game friends; my boy, Matt, and Combat Lizzy. I met Lizzy in the Pantano river (not on the Krewe B-Day), desperately attempting to beat some rather wicked flytraps there. With a little help, she was able to complete that portion of the quest.

On the 6th of June last year, I pitched the idear to Lizzy about starting our own guild. Due to both of our difficulties in-game with rude players, griefers, and each of us having young pirates chasing us around wanting to be our boy/girlfriends, we thought that perhaps a guild based on helping others and teaching teamwork was the way to go. From there, a little research into pirate history led me to Bartholomew Roberts--Black Bart. We took his nickname as the namesake for our guild and created the Krewe one year ago today.

Our Krewe website was created shortly thereafter and followed by my persitent hounding of the management here at POF for our own subforum. Although turned down several times, with the rapidly growing Krewe and the increase in members and activity here on POF, we soon were awarded our own subforum and badge.

Through the year, we have met some great pirates. I still very fondly recall when my meager and fledgling Krewe were invited to Chris' mastering party, and how we were all in AWE at all the founders and pirate masters. I do believe I can speak for us all in attendance that we felt that we had been invited to a grand party exclusive to royalty! True, we felt as if we were hob-nobbing with the Brethren Court itself. This of course followed by a major celebration (in which the Krewe really shined!) and Redfury's Boss Battle.

It was on June 30 of last year that Lizzy earned her nickname "Wrong Way Lizzy" whilst the Krewe was raiding Kingshead. 'Twas the same day JK became a Krewe Officer. It was on July 10th that we met and Krewed Rachel Hexwalker.

Through our year we have made great friends and also lost some. My first true hard-core Krewe mate (aside from Lizzy, Matt, and m'self), one Katie Morgan was a dear friend. However, the personality dynamics between her and others were too much, and one day shortly after Charlotte and Redfury had joined us (if I recall correctly) she let me know that it was either JK goes or she goes. Poor JK! To feel that a high-ranking officer left because of you--the poor guy almost quit technology for good! And yet, Johnny Kingcage ended up being one of my Inner Circle and a great Krewe mate. Katie left and took half me Krewe with her! All who had left with Katie eventually came back to the Krewe. But it was okay. The Krewe grew bigger and stronger.

I remember meeting Li Wildtimbers playing poker. She was a kick in the pants laugh riot! And then there was the post-knee-surgery plundering she attempted--pretty funny in a severely dedicated sort of way! I swear she were drooling on the cannons more than shooting them, but I believe it was cathartic for her. I remember the day in August when our dear Charlotte Firemenace was promoted to officer--which was also our first big LIMBO TAG PARTY at the Rooster! I also remember Johnny Sharkskull and I attempting the Boss Battle--just the two of us! Almost made it several times, too. I remember meeting Wolf and standing next to what appeared to be my twin on the streets of Port Royal!

Of course, I remember Li's and Lizzy's Boss Battles--don't think I ever let anybody know I was on vacation and staying at a hotel for those: the family was playing at a waterpark and having a great time, but I had yet again hurt my shoulder (trying to be a kid again) and had returned to the room. You mates took the pain out of my arm and put a smile on my face. I remember Molly Bluesilver joining the Krewe last October and sticking with us like glue sticks to, uh.... well. She stuck with us to become one of our greatest rankers of all time. Not to slight Ben Dreadgull, of course. He's still the only Krewe mate to be on the Overall Ships sunk ranking. And let's not forget his Toons--or those of Jules, not to mention her wonderful stories!

I remember so many things, and far too much to type here. If I didn't get around to writing about ye, my deepest apologies. I would like to make all my Krewe know that I admire ye each and every one, and I thank ye deeply for all yer hard work and perseverance. We, like all guilds I'm sure, have had our ups and downs, but on the whole have always come out stronger and larger than life.

Thank ye to the Krewe--all 193 members (for now)! Without ye it would just be Lizzy and m'self. And that would be okay, of course. So take a trip to the 'Skellar or the Rooster, and toss back a cold Mojito (just don't mention it has rum in it!) on ol' Bart, okays? Ye certainly all deserve it. Every last one of ye.

I salute ye, Krewe.

ummmmmmm yeah, dont really remember much of that say (was a little medicated on the surgery meds).

Bart, it truely has been an honor getting to be apart of such a fine guild as BBK. I still remember the day Red introduced me to you. At the time we were looking for a long lost friend. Talked with you while taking ur shiney to see if you knew of her. Next to Clay Holister, Bart u be me longest friend in POTCO.

I know you had ur concerns when I took Li Red from BBK. But as I told you, I am loyal to BBK. When things starting happening, i stood behind me Krewe mates and fought till the end. Things happened and Li Red was reunited at last with her beloved Krewe.

The best choice this pirate ever made was saying yes to the guild invite sent by you Bossman. Thank you again for being such a great friend and an even better GM.

Happy Birthday BBK and Li (both were started the same day)

Very nice to read about the early months of the krewe. I joined last October and haven't been here since the start, but it still makes me feel like a part of the family.

Happy Anniversary Black Bart's Krewe!

So that is how the krewe came to be? My there have been many krewe-mates and stories along the way. And I am so happy that I am able to be on of those mates. Thank you so much for taking this here pirate into the krewe. I've never been in a guild where I have adjusted so quickly and made so many friends. I still can't believe it was only Mid-April when I joined! It seems like I have been with you so much longer. You can count on me sticking with the krewe for a very long time because you all have me hooked. If it weren't for you I probably would have quit POTCO after my first pirate. I'd also like the thank Li for inviting me to the krewe. If it weren't for you I wouldn't be in this great guild I now call home. I will always support the krewe and look forward to seeing many more anniversaries and BBQ's :) So here's too a great guild, a great Guildmaster, and a great Krewe!! :buds:

Bart, BBK, & Me Friends!!!

Has it really been over a year for Lizzy? So many memories...so many pirates have crossed my path since the day Bart assisted me in killing those wicked Flytraps...lol Lizzy hasn't always been the most powerful pirate on POTCO. But due to Bart's faith & the help of my lovable Krewe mates, I finally became a Master Pirate. Methinks, Lizzy matured alot since the Krewe began. Both in pirating skills and awareness of the entire scenario behind POTCO and the characters within. As Bart stated, we have had our ups & downs. But the ups definitely out-weigh the latter. BBK is my home away from home and although we are all only cartoon characters, my mates are beloved friends. I read threads everyday concerning pirates that are fed up with POTCO due to lack of new content. But, Lizzy is not among those. Methinks, I owe that to the BBK & me mates also. To Lizzy, a day without BBK is a day definitely missing something which has become part of me life. So I wanna take this time to thank you all for puttin up with this Dizzy wench. And best regards, also, to all BBK's friends who have stuck with us in times of trouble and did not lose faith in that which BBK is about. So Lizzy passes the Rum around...Huh?? And tips her pirate hat to BBK, me guild mates, & all me friends on POTCO and the Forum. Thank you all for a special year on POTCO!!! :treas:

Let go Lizzy. Thank you .* takes a drink (fills my flask )* :rumgt7:

I wish a very Happy Birthday to Black Bart's Krewe. :schrift022:
Thank you Bart, Lizzy and Matt for founding this mighty fine guild and having code we can all live and play by. We've come thru some thought times, but it made us stronger than before. :ContestMedalSmilie:
JK found this pirate standing alone on PDF and started a conversation ( the first time anyone took the time to stop and talk). Then he brought me into the Krewe and oh boy when that blue chat started, I was stunned.LOL It still hasn't stopped scrolling. :bookishfj7:
I have met some fine pirates and true friends in this krewe, a few near and dear to my heart. Many have helped this pirate along the path to Fully Mastered, too many to name, but all my krewe mates have my appreciation. I would still be trying to kill flytraps or search crates at Kingshead without them. :buds:
Thank you Bart for the kind words. I learned how to rank from the Master ( you know who you are), and and strive everyday to catch him. LOL :piratetongueor4:
Here's to the The Krewe *raises bottle* and to the next year, may it be twice as much fun as the first. *passes bottle* :pirate_flag:

I remember it as if it were yesterday...we looked like twins seperated at birth...it was like out of a scene from I Love Lucy where Lucy, dressed as Harpo Marx, actually met the real Harpo and the scene was Lucy thinking she was looking into a mirror with Harpo matching her every move...

For all you youngins who never saw that scene...Google or Youtube it or run out to Blockbuster and get the vid...classic...

Classic...another term to describe this guild...just as class describes the members...my hats off to ye all...

Congratulations BBK on your One Year Anniversary! I have met a lot of pirates along my journeys through POTCO, and I'm glad to call you my friends.

Thanks Bart for the history of BBK. It is always interesting to see how a guild started and where its been and how it became what it is now.

I've seen many times where the Krewe has helps others, whether it was to find a dig spot, sink some ships, raid Kingshead for the grenades quest, or recover the Pearl, you have been there to help, whether you knew them or not. Thanks for the fun atmosphere you create that makes it worth it to log in and continue playing.

League 06-15-2009 06:28 PM

You should have left Lizzy to her doom I think. But oh well.

Bartholomew Foulsteel 06-15-2009 08:04 PM

But League--the Krewe IS Lizzy's doom....
