A Little Question About Cannons

Ok well what is the best to upgrade? I did already maxed out my round shot, and my rapid shooting, and my thunderbolt, so I still have a long way to go but I am at LV 16, going on 17 soon, half way there. So which should I max out? Fury or Explosive? Thanks for the help!:forum smiley parrot

dont max out your skills...that makes it harder to lvl up cause they are too powerful. Have a point on each(explosive is not worth it so dont get it). When u cannon for someone, crew rep will help too.

OK thanks! Well I won't get explosive, I might get it but just I won't max it, I will max fury when I get it, and I can't go to a trainer to redo my skill points because I used it two times and now it costs 20,000 Gold. So oh well, but nice tip! Oh and is explosive useful on the bridges you have to shoot on the boss battle?

There are several configurations that work well. All depends on what you like to do. I have different configurations for each of my pirates.

I don't use chain shot or grape shot on most of my pirates (I RARELY use them). I'll list some pros and cons below:

-Shoot - IMO a no brainer...max it - the faster you can get shots off the better
-Round shot is free and does decent damage when maxed - however, you may find only placing one point here and using the remaining 4 elsewhere is more useful.
-Fire brand isn't free but also does fairly good damage when maxed and continues to do damage after it hits
-Thunderbolt - does very nice damage and is useful for long range shots (great for SVS) - I have this maxed one one of my characters
-Explosive - does excellent damage at close range (great for SVS) - takes too long to reload and IMO is not worth placing more than 1 point in
-Fury - massive damage when maxed - if you want to sink a ship quickly...Fury will do the trick - very bright on screen when firing and more difficult to aim compared to other cannon balls - this is an SVS must have IMO

-Rapid Reload - works well.....but do you need it - optional
-Barrage - not sure if this really does much (can anyone confirm?)
-Shrapnel - not sure this does much either (can anyone confirm?)

That helped thanks! This is what I'll do I will get explosive only one point then save my skill points then when LV 20 will get Fury, then use skill points I saved to put on it. Then keep leveling up and putting points until maxed, then use rest of skill points for rapid reload (fast reload). I don't have Chain or Grape Shot cause it isn't useful. So I only have one point for my firebrand right now and I don't think I will put any more then that because I have other powerful cannon balls.
Thanks!:piratewheelgo2:

Rapid Reload helps a ton methinks. For the most part, with leveling, I'd just use the lead at max speed (shoot and reload) till I got Lightning, at which point I'd tag ships from afar till they were in lead range.

As I level cannons, I put points in the primary skill, basically allowing me to shoot faster.
I then max out Rapid Reload, as it speeds things up that much more.. alot more when it comes to lightning. Especially since hitting in the same spot usually gives better damage.

I keep one point on everything else to have it, until maxed.

Lightning is probably most popular for maxing at that point, and then Fury.
Explosive is slow, but can be fun to play with as a master pirate, make sure you put at least one point here.

Since we can now retrain, its easier to experiment, than the old days where once a points set, its stuck. ;)

Good Luck matey!

It shouldn't be more than 10,000 gold to retrain your skills. I've reallocated my sailing skills almost 10 times (the most recent time being just after the latest updates, when they restored windcatcher) and the fee doesn't go past 10,000. On the subject of the thread, it's best to keep only one point in each skill until the weapon is mastered. As for explosive, I'd say it's a toss-up. I put only 1 point in it and I'm satisfied with that. I would never put more than one point in explosive. Eventually you'll want to buff up fury but for now, I'd say keep your skills as weak as possible. :)
