Additions

FYI: This is a great way to make fast gold. Once you get the hang of it, you can bank over 20,000 an hour.
I have over 70,000 in gold for just one evening. The guide is excellent Truepaine TY

NICE Guide, I currently have a Tsar Cannon, A War Frigate Hull, And the Skull and Crossbones figurehead. (Looking for a new figurehead though)

CaptainGreenGene 03-14-2009 03:37 PM

Current

I have the War Frigate with Dardanellas Gun and the Phoenix Figurehead.
Other configurations yielded similar results. The Tsar Cannon and the Dragonhead are more then equal to the task for all the ships I have seen so far. The War Sloop gives similar results to the War Frigate also. Perhaps there is a rare ship I've still not encountered so best be prepared.

Now up to 162,500 gold ready for transfer.

OK, I guess I just don't get it.

I tried COTD on my PC today. All I get is a singel line of entries that tells me my current gold, Ship stauts, Ship and Missions.

When I go on a mission, it offers me the choice of sailing to another island, or Hunt and battle locally.

The only ship I have is a light sloop. Every ship I meet is MUCH higher level than that, and no matter what I do, Attack, Parlay, Let the crew handle it, or Flee, I take maor damage and it ends up costing more gold to repair the ship than I ever earn. I started with 100 gold, and am now at 14. (59 gold to repair a light sloop??? Ingame it doesn't cost 1/3 that much, even if the light sloop has been fully sunk!)

I see others talking about attacking Kings Head, getting music or other items as drops, Treasures, ETC., but I see nothing in the game for any of these. Am I not getting the full game and all the options??

Does anyone have a screenshot of what the game interface should look like?

Sure - I'll put something together and post it - give me a day or so :)

Hesitate

I hesitate to do this but let me explain how best to make gold and get better ships so everyone can get in on this...

First off, you never sink so when you first start out don't repair your ship.
Choose the hunt locally choice and several things may happen.

1) You may find an abandoned ship and get some gold from it.
2) You may stop some merchants and shake them down for some gold.
3) You may encounter another ship, shark, hydra or sea monster.

The first two things require no extra steps just take the gold and choose continue on.

For the 3rd just flee and take some damage, who cares you can't sink.
Continue this boring searching over and over again until you have a good amount of gold.

To know whats available you will need to choose the "sail to PDF" option, wait the allotted time (either explore on the way or just sit and wait it matters not) then when you arrive at PDF(better ships and stuff there) go to the "my ship" choice and buy better ships, cannons and figureheads. Use the guide in the first post here to estimate cost vs benefit.

Once you have a better ship and a better cannon you can attack some ships if you choose or better yet choose parley and most times they back down and pay you off to go away. If you have to fight there is another post here someplace that explains the best angles and powerlvls for each vessel. As you begin to sink better and better ships you earn new cannons, better ships and figureheads and the treasures and music you are asking about. Be sure to log in before you begin playing or you cant transfer anything. The link here doesn't take you to the log in page you have to navigate the site map to get there but I'm sure you can figure that out with a little searching around or try this link. GL

Basil,
There are a few screen shots in this thread:
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...ht=cotd&page=2

The COTD site uses style sheets for the layout, you should not see everything on one line. However, if you are playing in your browser on your 'puter, it does help to make the width of your window narrower to around 400px.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and to thanks everyone who likes the guide so far, I tend to get some free time at work.

Opera vs Firefox

I am currently running the most recent version of Firefox and Cannons of the Deep is missing all the buttons under "My Pirates". The latest version of Opera displays them but Firefox does not. The Wii system uses Opera and also displays them fine. I have to say playing this on Wii is worse then on a cell phone. I think if given the choice I would play this on the PC running Opera for best results. Does anyone use IE and if so are you able to see all the buttons?

I use IE and have no issues - I cannot look up more information - but I expect that to be some docing page issue (and not a browser issue). All pics and Buttons work for me though :)

The Commodore 03-21-2009 01:33 AM

I use IE as well, and apart from occasional lag experience little problem. It's a fun game, and I have 4/5 pieces of sheet music. At close to 6K in gold, with a dragon head cannon, WS hull, and unicorn figurehead, i do pretty well.

CaptainGreenGene 03-21-2009 04:03 PM

IE is Good

I switched over to IE with the latest flash player just to see what happened. IE plays the game flawlessly. All the buttons show up and there are no problems running it just like the other posters said. Can't say why Firefox seems to lag behind in this respect but if you choose to play COD your best bet is not to use Firefox.

Allythehero 04-21-2009 01:06 PM

Firefox works great for me, however I think some users may have the adblock plugin turned on, which sometimes filters this type of stuff.

Also it seems in order to collect all the treasure pieces you have to visit all locations and sink every kind of enemy to collect them all.
