Known Issues - January 30, 2009
  • If you have issues launching the game or experience poor performance with OpenGL, please try changing the graphics library to DirectX9 via the "Graphics Options" button on the Launcher.
    • When clicking on another pirate or a friend in the friend's panel you may experience a crash. If this happens, change your graphics library (API) to DX9. This should resolve the problem.
    • The text describing emotes is not showing up in the chat log. We are currently working on a fix.

yeah I can't find this "graphic library" and Direct X9. Is this just for PC users perhaps? I operate on a Mac. Would appreciate any help.

The option to chose a graphic setting is on the main log in page, the one where you enter your password, NOT the pick a pirate page.

There is a tab at the bottom that says "Graphic Options". Click it, it will open another window for you to chose what setting you would like.

;)

I made a little guide about changing graphic options which may help some:

Only PC users have that option ...

That's my issue too...no "Graphics Options" here either. Just "Manage Account".

Hmmmm.

Wow, WTG pirates, you found a new way to make Mac users angry!!

Chris 02-02-2009 09:14 PM

Hmm i guess they havent quite got there for you mac users.

Sarah 02-02-2009 09:35 PM

I just went on live chat to ask about the Mac thing. Was told Mac users needed to use the OpenGL option for now, and send in bug reports if there were issues.

Yeah, not the answer I wanted either.....

Sorry :(

Chris 02-02-2009 10:02 PM

So its like they are saying sorry just do with what we give you?

Uh, Macs don't run DirectX. DirectX is a Microsoft product that runs only on Windows. Macs run OpenGL instead, which is an international standard.

On PC's, you have the option of running either in DirectX or in OpenGL. Depending on your PC, one may run better than the other for you. (Note that DirectX is not inherently better than OpenGL, nor is OpenGL inherently better than DirectX. They are just two different ways to achieve the same thing.) On the Mac, OpenGL is the only option.

You can thank Microsoft for this confusing situation. This has nothing to do with Disney or with Pirates.

You know, with the computer I'm getting, I won't even have to bother with all this graphics stuff, comes with the ATI video card, so I'll just leave it be. And thanks for the explanation Mike, guess it's true, you learn how to hate something even more each day.

(Not a huge fan of macs, but I do hate that you guys can't have the game run smoothly for ya.)

Dhestroyer 02-03-2009 09:07 PM

welp
the only thing I found to help with the lag is to turn the shader level off in the game options.
Thanks for the explanation on openGL and DX9. I had no idea. LOL Guess it is true you can learn something new everyday. Not a huge fan of PCs, LOVE my Mac.

Thanks again for the info
