OMG! What happened to emotes?!

With the new updates, has anyone else noticed that you can only use the emotes that make your pirate do something?! For example, emotes like /9000 and /bow no longer do anything! And not only that, but even the emotes you CAN do just show you doing the action, and it doesn't give the "description" in the chat! For instance, /coin makes you flip a coin, but it no longer says "Jason flips a coin." The emotes were one of my favorite parts of the game, and I want them back, NOW! I filed a bug report about this, even though I have a feeling this is no bug.......

When NPC's talk to you, it no longer shows up in local chat either.

Like when the shipwright tells you "Back to Pludering" You see it in a chat bubble over his head, but not in local chat!

I believe that might have actually been intentional, to clean up the chat some.

That however, is probably NOT supposed to have happened, and can be blamed on disney for releasing this update well before they knew it was ready.

I was just using Coin a few minutes ago... but the Live Servers are going down at 5:20 EST - so maybe its for fixes like that.

I saw captain walter as the 30 min warning came up,
He said that the emotions coding is set to the old chat.
He said that the chat should support the emotions coding when the game comes back.

I do like not having NPC chat show up in our chat, it will clean that up because sometimes things scrolled away too fast before.

I'd cut them some slack - overall an amazing release. They fixed alot of things, I've never seen any MMO that had a release this big that didn't expose some other bugs when they rolled out new changes. There are some bugs that Disney would never find in test until they get the changes out to the live game - WoW and other MMO's deal with the same problem. Why? The population on test server can never match the amount of players on the live game.

The fix they're doing now will most likely fix this, or fix it in a day or so... I'm eager to see where the game will be in a few months once all these changes have finally settled... be patient.

I agree with salty i mean i was told it would lanth alot later from now and the population on the test is way less. I mean come on with all of us who make "features" they rilly have to keep up. Well thats my opinion anyways.

combatlizzy 01-30-2009 11:21 PM

Do you think the revealing of servers or places that a pirate is located is a good or bad thing? I feel it has it's advantages, but also disadvantages. Of course the only pirates that can see this info are those on your friends or guild list...I think. It would be a disaster if other pirates could see this...ya no like partee crashers!
But otherwise, I found the new Port Royal to be a hoot. I spent hours chasing me tail around trying to get a perspective of where things are now located. The fort is enormous, 2 gypsies, 2 shipwrights, and, of course, the benefit of choosing the color of your clothes is awesome.

Hopefully the emote thingey will be repaired in the near future.....

MacIronhawk 01-31-2009 12:01 AM

That's what happens when disney releases an updated too soon.
I'm glad I saw this coming or I would have spent more time on test.

Poison elf 01-31-2009 12:15 AM

Emotes and stuff were having issues last time I checked. Double spam on any of the "sayings". So several areas may still be getting work. There are also features people are just going to have to get use to, different than before. This would be something like whispers, but you don't see the chat, yet it goes through.

Revealing other players I find a better feature, by clicking their name in chat. I see this to help eliminate things like the Thanksgiving event and players hiding spamming their names over and over, for reporting. Hiding and such from guild and friends I could go either way if that is known. Friends not to much a problem or you can just remove them from your list. Guild on the other hand could be troublesome if there is a lot of free lance porting in that guild.

Many thing were fixed, and over all probably seen way more patches to this test by far than anytime before. There are though outstanding problems still in existance.

They also forgot to ask you if you ran openGL, etc... when logging on for the new update.
I had to download POTCO again just to see the new ocean water.
There's a few things they didn't tell us that they should have.

Kraken Guard 01-31-2009 01:36 AM

what ever happened to the music player people in the tavern? did they take them out? as for the thing about doing an emot and nothing appearing on local chat, just tried flipping a coin and nothing on the chat thingy came up.
