All You Basic Members!

Hey, fellow Basic Members.
I was just wondering..
What do you do in your spare time?
You get to do more quests and fight more with Unlimited Access, but us Basics have to do something too!
I fight ships and try the few quests available.
So, what do you do?

For all you Unlimited Members, what do you think POTCO should let Basic Members do?

I'm a Basic member, but hopefully not for long! I spend my time grinding my weapons but mostly getting gold.
Level 14 and max gold! :12_1_138:

When I was basic, I socialized more often.

The clothing quests gave a good grind, if you didn't do them. (PR, Tortuga and PDF tailors.)

I love to sail. So I'm often helping people level up cannons. That, or ranking.

Hi I am an Unlimited acess I beleve you buys should be alowed the first level weapons and the freight class ships. But I also think that you guys shouldnt have a cap but instead have it more difficult to level up instead because some of you are on every day trying to do stuff on potco and then thoughs who work hard should be able to get weapons etc. well thats my opinion.

PerkyPirate 01-31-2009 09:11 PM

I agree with team_black_aumbu. I am also Unlimited.
Now that your skills won't decrease I believe they should make it harder for you to level up so you have more time to get your pirate's levels high! More time for your character really.

I really don't think their should even be a difference between Unlimited and basic, if ye ask me. But I talk to freinds, crack jokes, and try and annoy the navy as best I can.

If that were the case noone would pay, and pirates would disappear (ie VMK syndrome)

Its amazing how everyone wants FREE! ;)

I think they give the basic members quite a bit TOO much. When compared to the marketing tactics of other MMOs, they are by far one of the most generous.

Hang in there basics, theres still lots to defeat/sink :)

The Skirata Clan 02-02-2009 05:56 PM

If anything... and I am sorry to say this... but they should go back to when the game began... only light sloop, no story quests... not even the quests of that guy in Old PR hiding behind the barrel... either that or give us unlimited members more...

Edward Edgemenace 02-02-2009 06:07 PM

There are two types of basic members:

* Those that have never paid.
* Those that were formerly unlimited.

For the first type, I agree with Zep. Seems like too large a freebie. For the second type, (the ones waiting for content, voting with their wallet,) I'm not so sure. Interaction with other pirates is a very important selling point of the game...by curtailing that, the former unlimiteds have less reason to hang out while waiting for the next storyline.

For both types, there is plenty to do, as long as you avoid PvP and SvS (or are much better at glitching than I am!)

i think basic should get to do all quests, the small window is punishment enough for not paying. oh and this is coming from an unlimited player. :)

I have to agree with Zep and Skirata. Basic access members really do have too much compared to other MMO's. The more they have, the less unlimited access really has.
In my opinion, they shouldn't have basic access players anymore, just offer 14-day free trial then if you like it, pay up, if you don't, oh well. It's not like the game is that expensive to begin with.

Rackat 02-12-2009 05:09 PM

I understand both sides, but I have to say that I believe that POTCO basics get too much.

If I were basic, I would be pushing for more to do as well.

As a paying member, I can't see them giving more access to basics when the content and options have not been expanded for paid accounts.

I too "vote with my wallet" as Edward does. And I continue to pay for my subscription because I don't want to lose access to my War Fleet and other niceties I have acquired. I know some very good pirates that are basic access, and I know some very rotten pirates with paid accounts.

Basic or Paid doesn't make you a better player, but there should be a very clear line of dilineation of how much a basic account can access and then D should stick to it. It avoids frustration on both sides.

Edward Edgemenace 02-12-2009 06:59 PM

As a human being, I have to agree completely with Rackat. As a basic member, I'm a teensy bit miffed by the notion. The 12/20/2009 changes have made "helping others" a very difficult chore. BUT, it is more consistent...so a good thing overall. The only singular remaining inconsistency is the voodoo doll's "curse" spell, which is locked, but says it isn't.

akamystic 02-12-2009 07:16 PM

Many MMO's offer a free trial for either 10-14 days (I can think of 2 right off the top of my head). After that, you pay or do not play. So IMO I think all basic members should be VERY thankful they can participate in the current capacity.

Moreover, if you want to get into price...you'll find that POTC Online is one of if not the most inexpensive out of them all (comparable MMO's). You can purchase a 3 month game card for $24.95 at some of the local retailers or sign up for a discounted plan via piratesonline.com. I believe one year saves you 33% (39.40 off annual - like paying 6.67 a month instead of 9.95).

So just imagine, playing for 10-14 days and then getting a message that your trial has ended please select a form of payment to continue.
