We at the Founders Guild Association are also pleased to see another year of POTCO life continue. We are in high hopes of continuing adventures for all Pirates.
We would like take this opportunity in the joyous festivals by bringing in the New Year with a fun filled contest hosted by the Founders Guild Association.
Find the secrete Pirate, hunt him down and win big,...

Yes Mates, WIN Big as in 40,000 in GOLD transferred to your Pirate. (it got even better Gang, see update)
What would you do with 40,000 in GOLD ??
Shopping spree for the new clothes..?
New Tattoo
Been eyeing that new War Galleon or War Sloop or the Fantastic War Frigate.?
Perhaps some new weapons are just out of reach and the Gold would put your hook right on it?

Here’s the specifics:
Who: Any Pirate, as long as you have come and signed on before the start of the event. (a simple acknowledgement in this thread of participation is acceptable)
When: New Years Eve, December 31, 2008 @ 8:00 pm (pst) to 11:30 pm (pst)
Where: Pirates of the Caribbean Online Servers. (specific server(s) to be announced at POF Forums 30 minutes prior to the event.)
If there are 1-10 participating Pirates we will use one server,
If there are 11-30 participants, we’ll use 2 servers, 31 to 60, three servers and so on.

Game Concept and Rules:
You are hunting down and making verifiable contact with a specific Founder Pirate.
You will take a screen shot of your contact as the Founder Pirate acknowledges your victory. (as will the Founder Pirate too)
The covert Founder Pirate will be hiding on any island, fort, cave, unusual location.
The covert Founder Pirate will not be static but dynamic,.. meaning He will be moving around, perhaps sailing from one place to another seeking shelter from his opponents for He doesn’t want to release his gold booty, but is bound to a oath by Davy Jones to release to the Magical Pirate with the ability to find him.
The covert Founder Pirate will not use any glitch or hide in a place that is not normally accessible by any Pirate.

Server and specific Founder Pirate Character to be announced 30 minutes prior to commencement of event.

Let’s have some fun and bring in the new year with some Gold!!

Sounds like alot of fun but I have 2 questions and a comment:
1) Will there be any clues to the where abouts of said founder?
2) Since me level 40 pirate is the only one capable of performing this feat and she is usually maxed out on shiney...could the money be transferred to one of her lower level pirates?
And my comment: East coast peeps would be on-line right through the Midnite celebration...no problem with that if you are not planning any festivities in real life which at this point I am not...but it kinna limits EST and CST peeps to participating...just a thought that entered me pirate brain as I read the thread.
I am thinkin about joining the event...but waiting on a response to above questions before I actually decide. Thank you for your attention to this pirate's inquisitive mind...

Will we know the target founder's ship name in advance? Do we have to attune them? :-) Are they allowed to hide in LOOKOUTS (like underground gambling, or on the Black Pearl?) Mlratto's question...also, are those on the scavenger hunt also allowed to teleport? Or just founders not allowed to teleport, once they are hiding? Or no teleporting at all?

Sounds like fun but the big question...how is the gold to be transfered? Is this a Disney sponsored event and the gold to be placed into the winners coffers? Or is this a guild event with transfer being made by playing poker? Just curious as the specifics aren't stated.

That sounds fun!

Just got home from work, so I can respond to some of these questions.

Great Questions Combatlizzy,..
1) clues will be limited to these statements... "The covert Founder Pirate will not be static but dynamic,.. meaning He will be moving around, perhaps sailing from one place to another seeking shelter from his opponents"... and "The covert Founder Pirate will not use any glitch or hide in a place that is not normally accessible by any Pirate" But,.. with that said,.. if for some crazy reason the covert Founder is not detected within one half hour of the remaining time frame, I will post a very decisive clue that could lead Helen Keller to his path. :)
2) The Gold can be disbursed to who ever the victorious Pirate wishes, if not to themselves, then they can choose to who, but all must go to one Pirate, not divied up in lower denominations ;)

another great question Miratto, the answer is no teleporting whatsoever by the covert Founder, nor will he be hiding in the water somewhere floating adrift. His movements are limited to his Olympic running stride and or Ship transportation, he will not be sitting on a Ship either. Ship involvement is merely for getting from one place to another by this fleeting Pirate. :)

another bullseye on the great question scale,...
1) You will not know the target founders ship name, you will have to get close enough to determine if you see a gold coin and name... hehe:)
2) No hiding in lookouts , or the Black Pearl since that would be very limited who could see that. Remember, the covert Founder will only be where any normal Pirate could go without glitches, nor in PVP and not in SVS,.. but Pirates can go many places without such,.. and this will be where yer wits come into play :)
3) Teleport limitations are bound to the Covert Founder only, others can teleport all they wish,.. but keep in mind, you fly over a lot of ground that way ;)


ahh,.... the Gold you ask, ...? great question indeed,...
since this is sanctioned specifically by the Founders Guild Council of the Association, The gold will not come by way of the "Gold Bug" from a Admin but rather from the Founders Guild Council via the good ol' Poker transfer route :)

my statment in saying "(one may have to make another Pirate for Gold storage...lol) was in that regard, as one Pirate may only have 65k, one would have to make another Pirate perhaps to store the loot if one Pirate found BOTH "Covers Founders" ...who knows,.. there may be even more gold available before the start of the event...?? :) Keep yer eye open Mates! (since some Pirates have a patch over the other)

I wanted to give you a update on this event as details unfold,
I will find out in a few hours for certain, but it appears we may have yet another Founders Guild Association member stepping up as a Covert Founder,..

Gang,.. that means the total Prize loot would climb to 120,000 in Gold,.. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!! stay tuned for confirmed details.

Allow me to give a brief description of Founders Guild members role in this New Years Evening Event.

Founders Guild members will partake in one of two ways,...

1) As a Event Referee.
Or
2) As a Covert Founder.


Event Referee
If they choose to be a Event Referee, They will communicate via Guild chat with the members. They will help keep structure and oversight with participating members of the event and ensure that all are keeping to event rules. Referees will use their Founders Guild Pirate for the event. They can teleport to other Event Referees but They cannot teleport to the Covert Founder(s).

Covert Founder
If they choose to be a Covert Founder, they must be willing to let loose with 40k in gold and be as stealthy and cunning as possible without violating the event guidelines as a Covert Founder. They cannot teleport anywhere, They cannot use any glitches or abnormal POTCO methods. They may communicate via Guild chat with Referees and other Covert Founders only. The Referees will know who the covert Founders are at commencement of the event. (…hehe)


So,.... as you see "Founders Guild" name tags, keep a sharp eye out, Some are Event Referees, and few will be the Treasure. You will recieve the specific names of the Covert Founders 30 mins prior to the start of the event listed here , on my user page and on this thread

Ok Mates, closing in on the event, some Lucky Pirates or Pirate will have much more Gold to start their New Year with!

I'll make the recap and specifics as stated 30 minutes prior to start of the Treasure Hunt. As long as your name is somewhere before my "30 minute" post, your in.
The victorious Pirate(s) can allocate the Gold to whoom ever they wish if not themselves.


additional notes:... the Searching Pirates must be withing 5 arms reach of the Covert Founder, if you are running around yelling aimlessly the Covert Founder will not acknowledge you unless they feel you have specifically made contact with the Covert Founder.

Well Mates,... in conclusion


All I can say is... WOW,.. what a night and fantastic turn out to the event,...
there must have been 45 to 60 Pirates searching at the beginning, many more than signed up. The chatter reminded me of the Founders Feast festivities, especially the conclusion celebrations.
At the start I, Achilles, who was simply a Event Referee was surrounded by 24 Pirates yapping about the start and speculating over Covert Founder hiding spots.
Then the start of the event and a GO,..GO,..GO… and the race was on.

There was much in refereeing, watching over John and updating the events on the Web Sites. All just too fun,…. I hadn’t had so much fun in this fashion in a long time.
This was so last minute,.. I can’t wait to see the next event when we give proper notice to all Pirates! Compounding the fun and adventure,…

I must say, many of you Pirates, like Moderator Maximvs said about Edward, are calculated hunters, Man, you guys had this down to a science. Too cool.
To those who had never tried hunting down a Pirate in such a manner before , just imagine the next Treasure Hunt event, you have some experience now and learned some cunning Pirate moves I’m sure and some stealth maneuvers.
Teaming up was a smart move,.. but that didn’t diminish the tactics of several of you savvy Pirates who took out on your own,.. Perhaps you will share some of your skill in replies and future team assembly for the next event?
We will work on getting creative, we have some great ideas.


Congratulations go out the Victorious Pirates who tracked down the Covert Founders.
The conquering Pirates of the events are:

1) Edward Edgemenace of the Driver's Education Guild,who after finding the first Covert Founder, Molly, requested that he forfeit the triumphant moment, send the Covert Founder back into hiding and allow another Pirate to gain the victory and notoriety. This was most impressive to us all of the Founders Guild Association and admired his generosity and believed it ought to be honored by this mention of facts.

2) Swashbuckler II of the Onyx Destroyers and Horus, not only teamed up to combine wits and skill in achieving the second Victory, but managed to catch “John” apparently snoozing as his unaware controller was busy posting updates on the Web Sites…lol … Nice Team Work Mates!

3) Swashbuckler II of the Onyx Destroyers went rogue taking his mad skills and capturing Molly for the third Victory, showing himself to be a very crafty and sly Pirate, incisively scheming movements that maneuvered him to the victorious attack. Very nice once again Mate!

Lastly,… poor Covert Founder-Regulator,…
nearly ambushed by a very thorough Kani of the Spartan Ellite and relentlessly pursued by a unyielding Amelia Wavescarlett of the Seafury’s found himself being tested to his limits by not only these perceptive Pirates but others who would see the elusive Founder part with his Gold,.. to his greedy enjoyment (as is any Pirate) He remained a free and wealthier Pirate, evading a victorious attack for the full 3.5 hours of the event,.. he’ll be on guard and much more cautious knowing what level of adversary he’ll be facing at the next Event !
So we wrap it up for now,….

Again, thank you Pirates Online Forums for allowing us to post and promote the event, thus contributing greatly to the accomplishment of this endeavor. Truly appreciated.

Thank all you Pirates for your participation that made this event such a success.
Your attitudes and support was fantastic as was your enthusiasm.
Your excitement during the event was contagious, causing many Pirates that had not heard take notice, inquire and participate even though they hadn’t signed up..lol

Thank Achilles, for hosting this. It was perhaps MORE fun than I expected (and I had no small expectations.) Crewing up with other hunters at the start, was the key to spreading out the net efficiently. With a bit more coordination, three people at a time should scour each island so that Regulator can't escape again. :-)

I found a tattoo shop I didn't know existed (or forgot about entirely) on Cuba. Investigating Ile d'Etable de Porc got my pirate trapped in a dead-fall - whoa - good thing nobody hid on the SvS islands. Even though the covert founders can't sail from them, there are glitch-free ways to run indefinitely on both of them.

Please consider a quiet server next time. Quiet does not mean other pirates are there - just means less lag (which was a very significant factor.) Also, please consider giving the "hints" over a much longer period of time. By the time my browser opened on POF to tell me the 5 hints, it was the one-minute warning (and some teleports were taking over 2 minutes.)

Even the poker transfers at the end were amusing - trying to get a screen shot of a huge poker-pot was something I was really looking forward to. I assume it is possible to get the pot over 100,000 gold, but haven't seen that yet...

Perhaps for next round, the referees could crew up all participants, leaving crew-matching on so that disconnects have a way to get back to where they were before they crashed out (I lost count, how many times I crashed out, during the event.) That way, covert founders could request the referee founders to toggle the crew icon twice, to add additional verification and so they don't spend as much time running away from not-participants.

Can't wait for next month's event. WELL DONE!
