The Lord of the Rings Online

Does anyone play LOTRO? I was thinking of trying the free trial, but I can't find out where to sign up for a trial account on the site.:sadmh9: If you play it, post here if it is a good game and maybe where I can find the trial sign up!

Sven Osymthe 12-02-2008 02:27 AM

sorry I don't play it but I hope you enjoy if you do.

Eric Daggerskull 12-02-2008 02:30 AM

I hope it is a good game. I mostly want to try it because I just recently decided to watch some of the LOTR movies, and they are outstanding! Plus it has gotten very good reviews, and there was also a new updated area, the Mines of Moria from The Fellowship of the Ring, added to the game. Can't wait 'til I start the trial.

combatlizzy 12-02-2008 02:31 AM

Egads..I luv those movies but I can't get addicted to another on-line game...lol

Sven Osymthe 12-02-2008 02:44 AM

lol Lizzy that would make 3 addictions for ya......POTCO, LOTR, and RUM!

combatlizzy 12-02-2008 02:48 AM

The Skirata Clan 12-02-2008 03:14 AM

i would play more online games except that there aren't that many and good mac friendly games.

Eric Daggerskull 12-02-2008 08:23 PM

I do think it looks like a game I'd enjoy, but I don't know if I'd be able to leave 'me buds here at POTCO. I just got settled on POF!

Too bad the free trials are closed. Quoted from the site data base:

Question/Topic

Is there a free trial for LOTRO?

Answer/Article

LOTRO's Free Trial program is temporarily closed and will reopen soon after the Mines of Moria, the first expansion for LOTRO, launches.

I agree.....I wouldn't have the time between POF and POTC Online (Test included) to squeeze in anything else in. I've played Ultima, WOW and EQ online at one point or another....but POTC has been my one and only since August 2008. Oh....almost forgot I have to leave time for the real world as well......lol

Haha yep, the online gaming community isn't very Mac-friendly. Oh well. I'm good with POTCO. :)

It has its good and bad side just like any other game. I have a few maxed out characters there, but haven't been back on it for a while now. There were some unique items and a trading system. You can make your own equipment, and if max, you can make some of the best stuff around. Trading in the auction system many times would pull in big coin.

If you get in a good group, there are several quests that takes a group to do, or items that can be received. One person gets, and can be a problem. Lag and issues I found in these to be a few problems.

Didn't like a few special critters spawned in a certain few spots, to receive a item used to have the critical success in making armor/ weapons. Ended up camped critters.

How it has changed not sure, but did have its fun sides. Riding a horse, and getting like three different specialized horse's etc.

Wow, im about a year late on this one but i thought i'd just say........ I LOVE PvMP!!!!!!!!! that is my life, for the 10 days i played :P

JM Ohara 09-24-2009 07:15 PM

Old thread I know, but I only just heard they even had a game. As someone who is more than a tad obsessed with LOTR, (I once watched all 3 extended editions on a single Saturday.) I thought I'd at least take a look at the site. All I can say is WOW!:psmiley27: The screenshots are amazing! The graphics there look to be to Pirates Online what Pirates is to Pixie Hollow. I didn't even know they did graphics like that for games!

I'm wondering though, how close really is it to the movies? And, more important to me anyway, how do you interact with the other players? I love the interaction in Pirates, and the many ways you can chat there. If you can't talk like that no matter how cool the game looks, no matter how great the story and game play are, if you can't chat it's no good.

I guess what I'm asking is, is it worth it?

Buck Seahawk 09-24-2009 11:56 PM

I played the free trial. Great game!

Stormhawk 03-05-2010 01:46 AM

I LOVE Lotro....have been playing for more than a year now. Have a 65, 60, and 58. :D They just had a free content update. Oh and a few months ago they added Mirkwood to the game, can fight one of the lesser Nazguls now! :P

gingeeann 09-16-2010 04:07 PM

Old thread I know, but Lotro just went "free to play" to all on September 10th 2010, I downloaded all the stuff ( took awhile) and tried to set up account but cannot seem to get it to work. Twice the turbine website was doing maintance and other times the site seemed to freeze up or not redirect. Anyone else having problems? Is the volume to high for them to handle?

JM Ohara 09-16-2010 07:51 PM

Oooooohhhh!! Dude it went free?!!! I think it's time to go try this puppy out!

Edit. Uh, boy is this gonna take a while! I went with the high res since I figured the new lappy could handle it. 10,448 MB. Um, WHOA!! Gonna take almost 2 hours even on my brand new puter.

gingeeann 09-17-2010 05:33 PM

I got in last night finally. I think it was the high volume due going free on September 10th. There was a notice on the site about all worlds being open now and sorry for any inconvience. Graphics beautiful, lots of options maybe a fun diversion when potco updates are slow in coming.

Ironic that I finally get another game and Raven's Cove comes out on test. :laughks2:

Since lotro seems very story quest driven and I do not like questing alot, I see myself slowly leveling up there.

Privateer 09-18-2010 07:29 PM

Love it, played F2P beta, my char was a 22-ish Warden. I played it for the nostalgia and the graphics. It's BEAUTIFUL! Quests relate to the story in the Trilogy. WONDERFUL! And Free to Play too!

JM Ohara 09-18-2010 09:25 PM

After spending almost two hours to download it there was an error in the installer. Further, it was right after that Pirates went totally wrong on me. I have uninstalled LOTR and I will NEVER try again. I just wish I could get Pirates back up now....

Nate Swordwalker 09-19-2010 01:40 AM

Ooh, poor JM.

JM Ohara 09-19-2010 03:08 AM

I think the Mouse doesn't care for us checking out other games. Still can't get back in pirates.

JackGoldStack 09-26-2010 06:46 PM

i downloaded the trail but didn't work and my pc is slow and i cant even remove it from control panel =S

Captain Sureshot 09-27-2010 06:30 AM

Also did the LOTRO F2P Beta, really enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Lady Violet 09-27-2010 05:59 PM

Ok I was interested in this game, for I am also addicted to online disney games such a s Toontown and now POTC. So I went to look up this lord of the rings game for ive loved this story since my Dad first brought me the cartoon version when I was about 10. Which was well a long time ago. Its says free to play all over the site so go and enjoy. im downloading it now but not sure I will start playing just yet. .....

Buck Seahawk 09-28-2010 02:25 AM

I have a free account on the game. It's a great game, but I think it made Pirates even slower than it was before I downloaded it! I don't play Pirates that much anymore anyway, so it doesn't really bother me that it is slow. But if you love PiratesOnline still, I would recommend you wait until you get tired of Pirates.... unless you have a super computer.

EdwardTeach 10-05-2010 02:18 AM

Just got free the other day, probably wont upgrade because i do wow and potco. Great game though.

seafox 01-23-2011 02:01 AM

The free part of Lotro is huge...can't imagine needing to be a vip...but if I get into it , maybe...lots of fun...many pirates on it. :pirate30:

Below is my elf hunter gal, Rainwen.

richfireskull 04-13-2011 02:40 PM

Just wondering what sever?

seafox 04-13-2011 06:17 PM

I play Imladris mostly, Rainwen might hit level 52 today, woot!....Brandywine is where i started out back in 08 and i check in there occasionally(that kin is a level 10 now) , but like busy servers in pirates you get lag. Although, I rarely lag in lotro it does happen.

richfireskull 04-13-2011 06:20 PM

Cool a guild i used to be in called pira sea inc. had a few members that moved to lotro. and congrats my mini is still 35 -_- lol

EDIT My minstrel is lvl 51 and I still play on gladden but I have a kin on imladris :) it's name is Pira Sea Legacy
