POF in Massive Gamer

Our humble forums, Pirates Online Forums has been mentioned in an interview by Massive Gamer with Mike Goslin Vice President of Disney’s VR Studio.

Quote:

Massive Gamer: What’s your relationship with the site http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/? It’s the fifth Google result when you do a search on PotC.

Goslin: We appreciate that they’re out there. They are serving adult players, with different needs than kids will have. And they cover all that. The PR company [360 Public Relations] reaches out to them.

Massive Gamer: What do you wish your fansites would do?

Goslin: We’re just happy that they’re there. We have no particular goals for our fansites. We recognize that this is a community, and that they own the product. Anything that helps people connect with each other is great – and we’re grateful someone is out there providing what we can’t.
Search Google for Massive Gamer Magazine to find out more.

nice find Nick.

I'm sure it will help the site and get quite a few new members. Have you seen an increase in traffic and membership since the article was published?

LOL...cause you know Big-D doesn't have the money or bandwidth to support a forum. Wait a second...is this an adult oriented forum? Maybe that's why I like it so much. That's awesome that the interviewer noticed that this forum is the 5th link on google and asked the guy about it.

and I can't make a post without this:

Cool stuff... the word seems to be getting around!

Although im not sure where they get the "adult" part, I guess the kids dont need a forum/fansite.. lol

Cmon folks.. we're family friendly.. bring the kids too! ;)

Hey, googling is how I found this site.

ukebec 11-21-2008 07:11 PM

Is it true that D's PR company "reaches out" to this site?

The recent GM's about in the game have confirmed a few times that they at least do check/read the forums here on occasion.

Man, I know if I was in charge of a huge MMORPG that has known issues, that I would be on at least the top ranking forum for the game almost every day. How could they not be interested in checking what people are saying on a daily basis? So many good ideas get thrown around in here and if you're just checking "on occasion" you'll miss a lot of stuff.

Oh well, I'm sure Disney knows how to run their company better than I, so I'll let them....though I did just cancel my unlimited

Dr. Zeppers 11-21-2008 07:51 PM

Good point Crimson, considering the GM's have always answered in riddles, etc. They may very well keep a very close eye on our boards here. Either way they never seem to like to play thier hand... always secretive hehe.

Massive Gamer: I don’t suppose you want to tell me how many subscribers you’ve got, but can you tell me the proportion of users who subscribe, versus that of users content to play the free game?

Goslin: We give quite a bit of the game for free. The exact figures depend on the promotions we’re running at the time, but generally, around 10% is paying. We use the velvet rope model.
If that's true then nine out of ten people I see aren't paying members.
Or did I miss read it?

Poison elf 11-22-2008 02:36 AM

Maybe that is the problem, they never get on and see most the players are unlimited.

I am just trying to remember if I saw any basic while the taverns were full with the gm's. Guess there were a few canceled accounts running around.

It's because they are not allowed to have an open discussion and dont have the resources to allocate to a full time team to moderator the threads. It would be a nightmare for them because of the legal issues.

Chris 11-22-2008 02:09 PM

Yea but its nice knowing that disney devs read these forums :) who knows maybe they will put in some of our ideas and find some of their bugs here and fix them.

Bella 11-22-2008 02:42 PM

Don't hold your breath Chris. We have all known for a long tome the Devs pop in here. Yet they NEVER seem to fix anything important.

Evil Kid Bugs 11-30-2008 11:33 PM

What was REALLY said in the interview:
Quote:

Massive Gamer: What’s your relationship with the site http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/? It’s the fifth Google result when you do a search on PotC.

Goslin: We hate that they’re out there. They are serving evil bunny players, with different weirdos like Evil Kid Bugs. And they cover all that up. The PR company [Pirate Rabbit] retches when they hear about them.

Massive Gamer: What do you wish your fansites would do?

Goslin: We’re just happy cuz we live in la la land and don't need to think about the real world. We have no particular goals except to find the next hot tub party. We recognize that this is a communist state, and that they will get what's coming to them sooner or later. Anything that helps people connect with each other is probably a source of contagion – and we’re very afraid Evil Kid Bugs spit on our Thanksgiving turkeys.

Nice mention in the Massive Gamer, strokes for all! :-) diligence pays off!

BTW,.. love yer sig Evil Kid Bugs,..lol,.. too cool.
It was thought by some and told at me, that latin was over a kids head,.. perhaps not..?
thank you for proving me correct!
Although I'd playfully disagree that not everything said in Latin sounds profound! ....hehe
but then again, after reading your post, you could clearlly defend your mental state of mind declaring "Diabolus fecit, ut id facerem!
....that is to say, "the Devil made me do it!"

So, in closing,..may I say "Die dulci freure" :) (have a nice day)

Vah! Denuone latine loquebar? Me ineptum. Interdum modo elabitur. (chew on that one Mates!, a thousand gold dabloons for the Pirate who can translate it!)

Sarah 12-03-2008 06:22 PM

Oh! Was I speaking Latin again? Silly me. Sometimes it just sort of slips out…

No third party post dated checks please..

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Achilles 12-03-2008 09:26 PM

haha,... nice 1 Sarah! ... "Touche !...oops, now our french is slipping out... hehe
To those who didn't catch what i'm refering to,.. Sarah gave the english rendition of my use of the Latin phrase of "Vah! Denuone latine loquebar? Me ineptum. Interdum modo elabitur".. which is to say, as she displayed,... "Oh! Was I speaking Latin again? Silly me. Sometimes it just sort of slips out".

Dad gum!!,.. lost me gold in that one,.. dang educaterd people! :bookishfj7:
