Raising the gold cap without raising the gold cap.
Forgive me if someone already suggested this, but based on the little coding details I learned in the other thread, I thought that a possibility for more gold, without increasing the amount carried, would be to use existing dig spots as "banks". Basically, you'd use a dig spot to dig up a chest, and then decide how much of your gold to put in it/take out (up to 65k per chest - assuming that is the magic gold number). This would allow pirates to have more gold without (maybe?) major code changes, and would give dig spots another use.
Plus, burying treasure is very piratey... :) |
I really like this idea! What could be more piratey?
A feature of this could be that a pirate could bury some of his treasure and give a map to the treasure to a friend or guild member who is in need. I have mixed thoughts on this one, but Aliese's idea is excellent. |

I agree. I like this idea too Aliese. Not that I'd ever be able to save up enough gold (always spending it on new clothes lol)
|
I love the idea. But, how would it work? If all the dig spots are available to everyone, how will the game know you want your friend Jack Sparrow to have some gold, and thus give him permission to dig up your stash? Or, even if you want your little pirate to dig up your big pirate's gold? I can see it being coded to allow you to dig up your own gold, but having others dig it up would seem problematic?
Maybe allow us to "bury our treasure", but the first person that comes along and hits Shift over the dig spot would get te gold. So, if you wanted to transfer gold, you have your buddy Jack standing there next to you so that he is the first one to try the dig spot and gets the buried treasure. |
I think it could be implemented if we had our own "captains quarters". Other disney games have personal banks, don't see why they couldnt' do it in POTCO as well. Maybe just a page in your journal would work as well...a "stash booty" tab ;)

Dan OB raised the possibility of giving a treasure map to friend so you could transfer gold. I think that's what Rackat was referring to Zep.
I like it too. Buried treasure be exceedingly piratey. Although I know a couple of pirates who would turn into moles burying all the gold they effortlessly accumulate. ;) |
Ahh I see missed that piece, my mistake. Thought he was replying to the original idea (his comment eludes to it that way).
Great idea for storing gold, although we need a means of transferring gold from pirate to pirate that is easier than poker, I think that might complicate the idea too much. What Im hoping for is for us to eventually have our own "room" or "ship cabin" where we can have our treasure chest within to store any excess bounty we have on hand. ;) |

My response is based on the fact that all dig spots are available to all pirates. How are they going to code the game so that only your pirate can access it? If it is made so that you can allow another pirate access to your gold (as was suggested), how will it be made so that you can give permission? Or, if you want to give it to your little pirate? Extending the gold amount by this manner is a great idea. What I was addressing was the other aspects of the idea. Edit: ukebec already responded. That was what I was referencing. Expounding on the earlier suggestions. |
I like the idea of a dig spot. It really is very piratey! But I have the same problem with this that I have with raising the gold cap.
What are we supposed to do with all this money?? I really have no reason to hoard more gold. I own everythign I can possibly own. There is nothing to buy, no way to use the gold to help friends (the poker thing never works for me - it always ends up going ot the wrong pirate). So yes, while this would be a fun way to let us stash more gold, what would we really do with it? |
I think it could be implemented if we had our own "captains quarters". Other disney games have personal banks
I like this idea the best. although i agree burying a chest is very piratey! ToonTown has a similar set up. You have a piggy bank in your personal home that you can draw from when needed. So, if D ever gets around to adding captains quarters, including a treasure chest inside wouldn't be a stretch. And i also like the idea of displaying all your collectibles in your quarters as well as being able to furnish it. Add a new shop that sells items for your captains quarters. After all, if the gold cap is raised we'll need to spend it on something! |

I suspect that the hard part to program would be making it possible to use the dig spots for burying treasure. Once that is done, giving others permission to dig it up would probably be relatively trivial. There are any number of ways to implement this and I think it would easier to add to the program then most of the improvements suggested for the game. Another possibility is you could make guild activities with it, like a guild treasure hunt where a pirate buries the gold and gives participating guild members the code for it and then gives them hints as to where it is. |
I think that, at least initially, just having a single chest that could be accessed from any dig spot would be okay (not realistic, but you can access all your ships from any island, so it pretty much fits with their sense of reality ;)).
Hadn't really thought about transferring money with it; I suspect they're not allowing an easy option because of what has happened on some other MMO's (where people pay real money for gold). I do think it should be a lot easier to transfer money between pirates on the same account, though. |
What do you need so much gold for? Once you own all the warships, there's nothing to buy except ammo, which you usually earn the gold back for.
Unless you're a girl and need lots of clothes, us guys just need 1 outfit. |
Wow thats an awesome idea!! Because pirates didnt keep thjeir gold in bamks they buried it! DEFINATLY send it in!

Banks could work, though they wouldn't be as cool as buried treasure. However, as has been clearly stated, there needs to be more to spend it on. Some ideas:
Rounds of drinks More clothes, jewelry, ships, weapon, etc Pets (i.e. Parrots, possibly different grades--hatchling, new flier, adult, African, European) Houses Stuff for our ships--various grades of wheels--pine, oak, mahogany, solid gold, etc Houses/apartments (we could stash stuff there, including gold) Banks could charge a "service fee" to deposit or withdraw gold so we spend instead of hoard |
For me, it's really just that I don't want to be losing gold because I can't carry any more. Even if I have nothing to spend it on, I still don't want my gold taken away. ;)
And who knows, maybe eventually there will be more stuff to spend money on. |
like that...since i only get 0 because i'm usally max out .....now where did i put me treasure map.
|
There really is nothing else to spend money on after a while besides ammo and point retouching, clothes and other apparel being the exception for those who just can't stand to look at the same. A higher cap doesn't really do much unless they add in more things that are tremendously expensive.
Still, I'd like for dig spots to have some use, though as to what that'd be, I ain't so sure. |
Good idea!
But I need to give you some history first. Pirates never buried their treasure on the beach or in the sand. The water that pushes against the sand (or currents) would eventually shift the sand along with the treasure making it hard or impossible to find. Good thing POTCO doesn't have any dig spots close by the beach. I would love to see this in the game but there's always a possiblilty of theives. However I would also like to see a bank system added in too. |
Bottom line:
Buried treasure: as piratey as piratey gets. Banks: very unpiratey. What next, Armani suits? As Tom Hanks might say "There's no banking in pirating!" Pirating without buried treasure isn't real pirating. |

About that giving your gold to someone else thing, the developers already said their starting to make a trading system.
They also said they were seting up somthing which you could mix and match lots of ship parts to form your own unique ship. All these can be found on the life in the section of the website. And about that Captain's Quarters, as Johamee Gibs said "Yeah that sound's very piraty!" (he means the oppersite) |
