Chat problems

I have noticed that, when talking to other pirates in whisper and crew esp., text sent from the other person is not always showing up. It shows up on their chat so they assume it was sent but not on mine. This is causing a great deal of confusion on both ends because if I'm asked a question that I never see, the other person assumes it is going unanswered. I'm just wondering if anyone else had the same problem. I know that I'm in open chat and I don't have the cross on. Thanks for reading!!!!

This happened to me just now lol. Someone was whispering to me and I never got their question.

bpg2012 11-15-2008 04:30 AM

This is not a bug, if you read the House rules it says " We hold the right to block messages if we deem them inappropriate "

Davil 11-15-2008 04:31 AM

Yep, i just re-type or change a few words in it and then press enter.

Chris 11-15-2008 04:41 AM

Yea i had this happening alot to me lately.

bpg2012 11-15-2008 04:46 AM

Well i guess Disney is getting stricter on what can go through whisper, crew, guild, and privateer chat.

Especially whisper.

AdmiralSavvy 11-15-2008 04:48 AM

Now that it's specified, I have had that problem lately. In my opinion, Disney loves control....

bpg2012 11-15-2008 04:52 AM

Well can you blame them though?

You have to keep in mind this is a Disney game, and they have alot of kids that play the game, and at least there trying to keep them safe from creeps.

AdmiralSavvy 11-15-2008 04:56 AM

Good point there, but I mean that some of the stuff that they block aren't even bad. Crazy in my opinion, but I'm willing to put up with it for the kids' sake.

Only problem that I've noticed is that disney often times edits perfectly normal and allowable things but doesn't edit certain offensive material. At least it does that with me. It didn't let me say anytime the other day. Idk if that is a bug but its very frustrating when its normal words.

Go to Abassa for 15 minutes one day, find a person using inappropriate language, go to Abassa the next day, find the same person there.
What I'm saying is that they don't moderate the ones who are really causing issues and yet they punish the ones who are doing nothing. I've seen this discussed I don't know how many times since I joined POF in March and yet I hear nothing from Disney about improving the chat system. I've seen lots of 4 letter words being said in chat before and I always wonder why it's even possible to say them, of course, they were mispelled. It just makes no sense that Disney supposily monitors chat and yet they supposily don't notice all of the things that are oh so close to certain words and these people suffer either no consenquences or soft consenquences. We can only hope that this is a bug...

Sven Osymthe 11-15-2008 05:05 AM

What Savvy said.....they punish the good and act like they don't see the bad.

How can you say that?

I know ALOT of people who are banned and have been banned from Disney online forever ( i was banned forever because someone hacked into my account and um did things... ) So there not seeing the bad huh?

If they weren't seeing the bad then why have they banned so many people, in my opinion Disney doesn't pay any attention to Abassa anymore, it's a lost battle there to keep it clean...

There will always be " bad " people in the game but Disney is trying there best to stop it, keep in mind this game is not the only thing they have to manage, and that there is probably way to many people to keep track of every conversation...

p.s omg why am i defending Disney????

Sven Osymthe 11-15-2008 05:19 AM

well I don't mean everything.....I am talking about like on Abassa server (if you see most of the chats going on there). Most people do get away with a lot of stuff but not all.

Not all the time though. Of course, the bad are punished sometimes though. But I'm friends with a lot of people who have said nothing bad at all, or have been falsely reported by some new player who doesn't know what they're doing. That just shows how gullible the Disney suspension system is.

Sven Osymthe 11-15-2008 05:23 AM

Also a lot of people who haven't done anything wrong can be banned too. Recently a lot of people I know in game have been suspended for no reason....not even getting the little notification as to why.

We all get the ban eventually for saying something or sharing information, I know I'm guilty of that. But Disney more often times than not, doesn't do smack against the ones that use inappropriate language. So to answer your question no, they don't see the bad, the only see a small portion of the bad.

bpg2012 11-15-2008 05:25 AM

Yea, i think you can only be suspended about 3-4 times before you get the big boot

1. 24 hour suspension
2. 72 hour suspension
3. 72 hour suspension then you gotta call and talk then you get the warning...
4. bye bye.....

well anndreeuhh how are the supposed to keep up with over 1 million players? they cant listen in on every conversation, though it seems like they do when its the 1 time you say or do something bad... there is no way Disney can keep up with everything, and when someone reports you they look all they way back to the last time you were reported to make sure you haven't done anything wrong

and please keep in mind this is not the only thing Disney has to watch over, they cant put everybody on the 1 game when they have theme parks, a T.V station, and alot more to manage

p.s still can't figure out why i am defending Disney...

That's not true. When I was suspended, I called and asked how many more suspensions one can get before the big boot, and the person at the other end said it depends on the severity of the offense.

Although I haven't been suspended....I know many people who have. One of which was an old gm of mine who no longer plays. She must of had 7 or so bans but they were for reasons that shouldn't even get you suspended....probably someone reporting for no reason. And yes the severity of the offense not how many times you have been suspended.

Andrew 11-15-2008 05:32 AM

I have yet to have this problem, but we deffinitelly need to tell people about this..if we can. I'll keep an eye out ;)

I'm being honest here, this conversation is scaring me, heh heh.
People, just be careful about what you say in game to reduce your chance of the big boot, because some people really don't deserve it...

bpg2012 11-15-2008 08:00 AM

Well, i think part of the reason why the bad people are getting away is because nobody is reporting them, and the people who do report reports get ignored because of false reports.

AdmiralSavvy 11-15-2008 03:07 PM

Yes, that could be it too. There are just so many false reports out there that it would take multiple reports on one person to be taken seriously.

The first and only time I've ever been suspended it was 72 hours without the call. I'll admit it was my fault. I just got mad and lost it. I have a friend whose been suspended like 50 times and he's still in game.

anndreeuhh 11-15-2008 04:15 PM

Like Savvy said Edward, it depends on the severity of the offense. I've been suspended twice, once for giving out my email (72 hour suspension), and the second was only 24 hours but I never got an email explaining just what exactly I did wrong.
