POTC 4 aiming for 2012 release
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=50225
Thanks to the fine people at Johnny Depp Reads for this link. If you're interested in Johnny Depp, this is an excellent source for news of his activities: http://www.johnnydeppreads.com |
Nice. Thanks for posting this :) I wonder what this one will be called.
|
Johnny Depp as Tonto.. hehe
This is a role I cant 'see' him in. Tonto was a pretty serious character. That will be interesting. Looking forward to the upcoming movies! |
Depp wrote and directed a movie years ago, that was never released in the U.S., called The Brave. He played a Native American and it was an incredibly serious (in fact depressing) movie. So I can see him in the Tonto roll. Although, with Ted and Terry writing it (they wrote all 3 POTC movies as well as Shrek), I would guess there would be at least some lighter moments.
|
Wow, cant wait till POTC 4!
|
Johnny Depp is such a versatile actor that can pull off so many different roles... I'd love to see him as Tonto. I think he'd be great as him too. Although after we've all fell in love with Captain Jack and his witty sense of humor it might be a little difficult to see him as Tonto. But anyhoo I can't wait to see Sparrow and everyone else in the 4th movie. Too bad we gotta wait 3 years though.
|
Cool cant wait for the movie to come out! Thanks for posting this!
|
Oh cool...I may go see it when it foes
|
Pirates 4? Johnny Depp as Tonto? A Prince of Persia movie by Disney? Is this some kinda sick dream (except about the Pirates 4 part, AWESOME!!!)?
|
Oh, and Kitfisto...don't forget he's the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland also.
Quite the diverse actor is our Johnny D! But bring on more Captain Jack Sparrow! I can't wait for that! I want him to sail through the Bermuda Triangle on his way to the Fountain of Youth (that is geographically correct, right?). |
Bermuda Triangle? Never thought of that, thats the PERFECT idea for a new movie!!!
|
as much as i have enjoyed Tim Burton's films it seems that since Sleepy Hollow most of the following films have Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter, his wife.
... what i mean is that I'm getting tired of Depp's acting. ... i know its blasphemy here... but as a person that enjoys his films... it seems to be the same formula. the "pearl" was an excellent, best of the series. but they have been decreasing quality with the release of a new pirate film. less acting, story, and substance. and more action and special effects. |
TSC - I hear you. I will say, in JD's defense, that Ted and Terry (the writers) were writing the script "on the fly" for 2 and 3. The advantage for this 4th movie is that they have had plenty of advance notice and are already working on the script.
I think we can expect something closer to POTC 1 in this 4th installment simply because the writers have more prep time. Also, Bruckheimer got an earful about CGI overriding story, particularly in POTC 3. So I think you can look for them to back off the special effects in 4 and go back to the basic storytelling that we enjoyed in Curse of the Black Pearl. At least that's what I'm lulling meself to sleep with. LOL. |
CGI Isn't evil in the wrong hands though. Look at Davy Jones! He was so realistic, some reviewers said it was PROSTHETICS!
|
I agree to a point Kitfisto...CGI can be fantastic. Like you said, Davy Jones was great. As were the cursed pirates in 1 and Davy Jones' crew in 2. But when you get to the point where you center a large part of the movie around CGI (i.e.; the Malestrom in 3) you begin to lose story line. Yes, the Malestrom did look awesome, but they seemed to be trying to make a character out of it. IMO the movie suffered for that.
|
Well, there are many rumors surrounding POTC4.
I have read articles eluding to it being set in the future, with space "ships". The fan theory was when hearing this, that Jack gets to the Fountain of Youth, lives forever, and well... starts sailing the starry skies. This was supposed to be some mechanism to launch yet another story franchise by Disney.. wish i could find that article now.. grrr |
Hmmm. Can't say I love that idea right off the bat, but who knows.
Whatever they end up doing with it I'll be there with money in hand and bells on to see it, that's for sure. :D |
I'm not too sure I love that idea either.
But I'd be willing to go see Captain Jack again space sailing or not. |

3 years wow!
I guess I'm just glad there making another one. and Ukebec cgi didn't ruin pirates three, i thought the maelstrom was a great scene and only added to the movie. |
Wow - I'm interested to know that piratefan71495! Although I didn't thiink it ruined the picture, I did think it detracted. But hey! As long as people were happy, that's cool! We might be of a different generation, or simply have different tastes. I lean more towards charactarization and story-line than special effects. But, then again, I'm a sucker for all 6 Star Wars movies...so there ya go. But I hear you piratefan...you liked the Malestrom scene, so that's good. If it added to your enjoyment of the movie it worked for you.
Everyone takes away something different from a movie. That's what makes them so interesting. We're all seeing the same thing, but, because of our life experiences, or expectations, we each take something different with us out of the theater. Quote:
YES. His films with Tim Burton do have a look and feel that is growing WAY long in the tooth. Short point of reference...Tim and Helena are not actually "man and wife". But yes...I get your point. Since Edward Scissorhands all of the Burton/Depp collaborations have included Johnny in some Kabuki-like make-up, being all broody and navel-contemplating. However...Depp has done a great deal more acting than collaborations with Tim Burton since Sleepy Hollow. In the meantime he did quite a few independent films, but also some mainstream roles...Chocolat, Blow, Finding Neverland and Secret Window to name a few. His acting in these roles was far and away a departure from the work he does with Tim Burton. Yes, I'm an unabashed Johnny Depp fan, but I will say that I believe him to be one of the most talented actors of his generation. He goes out on an acting limbs to bring nuances to performances that wouldn't have been conceived otherwise...i.e.: Captain Jack. Nobody, Disney foremost, had visualized a flitty, fey, drunken, ambiguous hero for their movies. He conceptualised an epic character, that I think few, if any, actors could have conceived of, and made him the anti-hero for the ages. I think someone must be hard-hearted indeed not to warm to Captain Jack and root him on in his endeavors. So, that's me two cents mate. I don't think you can lump Depp's acting together with his Burton collaborations and call it a day. I believe there's much more to him than that. |

he's a great actor yes, but the burton movies are getting repetitive. i'm saying that he can do a lot better. we can agree that his highlight was "the pearl". and Tim and Helena got married during Big Fish. They even have the same hair-do. Depp is near that point that of being known forever as Jack Sparrow. Which can be a bad thing. Take Sir Alec Guinness forever known as Ben Kenobi. Nobody remembers his role in The Bridge over River Kwai. Finally someone to discuss movies. |
Cant wait for this movie to come out. It's now set to be released in 2011 not 2012 as stated before. AWESOME!
