Who is able to play on their main pirate?
 
I just wanted to see if we're all not able to play on our mains, or if it's just some of us.

Are you still able to play on your main pirate?

I can't play my first pirate - the game crashes. Neither my second nor my third pirate can enter the jungle or caves or anything, so no advancing on quests. I'm just hoping that the next "update" unlocks some of that!

Well I can still "play" the first pirate I created several weeks ago, but he's limited in what he can do, Can't complete quests, can't go into caves any longer (get the "kill a skeleton with your new sword" message, map has disappeared (just a blue field), graphics are hosed up, etc. All of this occured with release 1.0.8.0.

I started another pirate a couple of days ago, but he doesn't seem much better off. The game is definitely not ready for prime time.

Well, it just go worse. About the only thing I was able to do anymore was fight ships, and now that is kaput too. I can no longer repair my ship. This is getting rediculous, especially when you read all the glowing reports on piratesonline.com.

Sheesh.......

i am getting the same error - (using windows XP computer) - tried unistalling and reinstalling a few times also , still no luck

I still get the evil Microsoft message, too. Maybe the game caught a virus! It is strange that some people can get on, and others, like me, can not get to the pick your pirate screen at all.:confused:

So, here's the deal, I can now play my main pirate again which I haven't been able to playsince the last update. However, I can only play it on our Vista laptop. I can't play anything at all on my XP desktop, I just get the microsoft error message.

I, too, am stuck in LIMBO.

1. Old pirate
- can't finish Quests (Greer / June's List)
- can't drop Quest either
- can't enter jungle
- can't equip Pistol

2. Old pirate
- can't finish Quests (Joshamee Gibbs / Black Pearl Crew / Doc Grog)
- can't drop Quest either
- can't enter jungle

3. New pirate - started after latest update
- can't log in. It goes to the Loading... screen, then crashes.
- I got all the way up to Joshamee Gibbs and completed the "trust" tasks (2 Navy ships, 8 Navy guards).
- I got the Black Pearl crew list task and when I went to the second step (Bonita's tattoos), it crashed.

(I actually created a new pirate and went through it all again and it crashed when I went to talk to Will Turner for daggers). My conclusion is that it doesn't like when I have too many Quests listed. It crashes on the 2nd level Quests after the Black Pearl list.

4. New pirate - started after last update
- Got all the way up to Joshamee Gibbs and Black Pearl crew list. Reluctant to select a Quest (if it crashes, I'd have to start over or have no pirate to play).
- Also, reluctant to take Will Turner's list for dagger.
- Finished finding Luther
- Finished talking to Elizabeth about teeth (Rudyard's Teeth) (Opened at Level 7?)
- Finished talking to Elizabeth about paintings (The Nine Rogues) (I think)
- Finished talking to Barbossa about other treasure page (Rhineworth Rings) (Opened at Level 12?)
- Finished talking to Sally Gold about Navy Medals treasure page (Talk to Sally Gold on Port Royal near dock (near crab))


Has anyone been able to create new pirate and get them past Will Turner's Daggers or Joshamee Gibb's Black Pearl Crew List Quests?

:( i just got a laptop for my daughter in March with Vista OS....and same thing happens on hers as on my lappy with XP sooooooo... Pirates of the carribean has encountered a problem and will close now. sorry for the inconveinance. send ~ don't send ~ then bug report.

I can play my main level 5? pirate, but I can't enter any caves ("kill a skeleton" message) and my chapter 3 quests are stuck (kill the assassin dressed as an EITC soldier).

I started a new pirate once I realized Molly wouldn't enter any caves. Sarah did everything fine until she got her freebie boat and tried to sail to Devil's Anvil. The ship disappeared halfway and I was stuck swimming.... except that I didn't go anywhere at all. Had to log out to get back to land.

*sigh*

So why do you think some people are able to use their main pirate and others cannot?

My main I can't get on
My secondary I can't get on
My first pirate created after the update, I can't get on after I crashed during game play
My second pirate created after the update, I CAN get on. The game hasn't crashed on me yet with this new pirate. I think once I get a game crash, I won't be able to get on this one either.

My theory is that your last pirate will crash when you accept a Quest...

My guess is from the first Black Pearl Crew member (not Scarlett, but after that when the you can select the Quest from a list)

OR

Will Turner (if you've leveled up enough to get offered Daggers).

...Bonita (for the first crew member) or
...Hendry Cutt (if you pick the second crew member instead) or
...Will Turner (if you elect to try that first)


There may be a limit to the number of Quests you can have. Maybe, maybe if you finish the Luther Quest first...

Well my last "new" pirate did crash when I was doing a crew member quest (Pidgley).

We'll see what happens because I just finished proving loyalty and have to go back to Gibbs :p


Edit - Ok with this 2nd "new" pirate I accepted the Hendry Cutts quest, talked to Scarlett, got my new quest and the game froze. I logged out properly, instead of hitting the X, and am able to get back on. I think with my last one, when the game froze I hit the X to exit the game.

I can't get on old pirates or new pirates - sigh - and will be out of town with limited computer time for the next week - sigh - I miss playing - haven't gotten on since they closed for maintenience on Friday - microsoft error - using XP on this computer - won't let me load on other computer (not as fast but boy am I desperate) -

off topic - guess I'll watch POTC 1 and 2 tonight with the hope I will get to see #3 shortly after it's release!

Graphics and HP computers
 
When I was using my computer, and would get the Microsoft message, I read the log and there was something about the graphics not working. (I can play on my husband's Dell.) My computer is an HP. I tried installing it on another HP, and up came the Microsoft message. Anyone else having problems with HP computers? Maybe it has something to do with that.

I can't play on my HP desktop which is XP but I can on the new laptop which is Vista. Both are HP. The server just came back up and I still get the microsoft error message on my desktop. Boo Hoo

i just tried logging in after reading this thread about a possible update...first attempt i got the same thing since friday ...the dreaded error notice and no connect. bug report yadayadayada. Second attempt i got the server busy and the pirates fighting marquee. it says "Sorry, all game servers are busy. One moment.....

I still can't even get to the "Create a pirate" screen, and I was able to about 1 or 2 weeks ago, but I couldn't get farther than that then.

Well, I'm on a Gateway laptop - no problems until last Friday - can't see any updates - no server busy message - just good old microsoft error message - arrgghh!!! :mad: Even though I won't have time to play much in the next week I sure wish they would fix it - bug reports don't seem to make a difference - aaarrgghh!!!

I had two days (Saturday and Sunday) where I couldn't play my main pirate, but it worked when I tried it again on Monday night, and it continues to work for me. :)

Yup Magnet, many of us are getting that exact same message before we even get to the "Create a pirate" screen.

Only if they would have fixed this bug on the 1081 patch.

I don't know why, I have been able to play all of my pirates the whole time. Did have trouble getting into the forest for two days(don't get to play every day) but last night was able to get in. Now, if I could just find Tia Dalma.
I am on an XP desktop, nothing special, so no help here, I still do not see very many high levels. I am still at level 10, how do you guys level up so fast? I am in AWE! I am stick getting some guys arm and that island is crawling with Giant Crabs!! Please PM me with any hints or tips you might have.

Graphics causing Microsoft message?
 
On my HP computers, I still get the evil Microsoft message. I can play on a Dell computer. Anyone know a lot about graphics? The game log mentions graphics problem.

I am not able to play on my HPs either...what model Dell is it that works for you? What OS is running on it? Maybe we can identify something specific and develop a work around.

Mine isn't a gaming machine, just a Dell Dimesion 4600 P4 3 GHz.

I had to create a new pirate in order to play, but since doing so (Tuesday night) I have had no major issues. Bums me out though because Maggie had tons of gold and a nice ride, but she couldn't do any tasks, she got bugged very early on. This new guy, William Wildfoote has been able to grind thru tasks with few issues, booted a few times while sailing, but nothing like what I am reading ya'll are going through.

Don't know if this info. helps at all, but there ya go.

My hubby's Dell is a Dimension E510, with XP. My HP is 3+ years old. Has a Radeon 9800? graphics card. 128 RAM. My other is one year + old. Dell is less than a year. All XP.

I just do not know anything about computers!

well after seeing the last post i realized that i was using my HP desktop with windows XP so decided to try insatlling the game on our toshiba laptop also with xp. unfortunately had same result - got windows error beofre the pirate choice screen

i am going on a week now without being able to play. too bad cause i really was having fun with this game

I couldn't access my main character after the May 18th update. I read the log file that is sent with the crash report. It indicated that my character's Quest DNA was the problem. I copied what lines the log listed at the error into the main message box and sent it. I was able to access my main character again about 4 days later.

I would suggest everyone to read the log files when they crash, which are sent from the crash report/bug website. Look near the end of the file for errors and where the server told the client to close. It usually indicates the problem...and it really isn't written in techno-jargon. Well, most of the file is but the errors are usually pretty plainly-written.

I am leveling/skilling slowly so I can't offer suggestions on these forums about high level content/quests.

So, how does a non-computer person fix this server telling the client to close??? ANY help is appreciated - after a week, I'm starting to take it personal

I upgraded the driver for me HP computer's graphic card (Radeon 9800 Pro), and was able to get on. Try updating drivers. I know it did not work for another of my computers, an HP with Intel thing. I know they have heard us, and are working on a cure. We all will be together again!:)

Ms. Moofers and everyone else,

Try updating your video card drivers as was suggested...first.

If you don't know what video card you have in your computer, there are a couple of ways to find out.

1. You could download a program called Belarc Advisor, which is free, which will tell you a lot about your computer...including what hardware is installed. You can find the program here: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

2. Or you can look on your computer in the Device Manager to see what is installed. The steps are:
• Click on Start then select Control Panel
• Double Click on System and then Click on Hardware tab at the top.
• Click on Device Manager
• Click on the small + next to Display adapters
• Write down what is listed there.
• Close the Device Manager

Now go to Google.com and enter what you found in the search window and hit enter. From the results listed, find the website that matches the manufacturer of the video card...don't go to the other websites as you may get a bad or virus-infected video driver...go only to the original manufacturer's website. Radeon is made by ATI.

In the manufacturer's website, you can choose Drivers section. In that section, they want you to select your type of video card and what Operating System you use. On the page listing the latest version of the drivers, you will also find instructions on how to update your drivers on your computer. I suggest you print those out and follow them to the letter!

I hope all this helps you get back into testing the game. I had 3 days of withdrawl symptoms...I can't imagine a week's worth! -)

I just got this today after sending in the bug report about the Microsoft error. It didn't help me, because I already updated every driver that I could. My computer does use the Intel graphics card and not the Radeon/ATI which seems to be working. Good luck everyone:

render graphics. If the version installed on your computer from your
video card manufacturer is unsupported or corrupted, Pirates Online will
then use an older version of DirectX. However, for better 3-D game
display, you will want to update DirectX from Microsoft’s website.

I wonder how someone would go about fixing a corrupt directx file. In my game log there is a section that says checking for directx9, it is found but then there is an error with one of the files so the game says it is using an earlier version of directx. I have tried to redownload directx9 (C I think) but the installer just says its finnished without installing anything. From what I can tell there is no way to remove the old corrupt directx9 from my computer.

I have had no problems on my main pirate, I mean no problems other than what people have been posting. I had an initial problem playing the game because my active anti-virus software was scanning the pirates online folder causing my game to crash all the time. The only other major game problem I am having is really having the ability to change weapons for building other weapons up, they all say "require training" which I believe everybody else is receiving also so you cannot change or swap out weapons...

I can get into the choose a pirate screen and see the 3d graphics and change the graphics settings etc. etc.

But as soon as i pick a pirate and i see the pirate appear on the screen after the loading page it crashes.

This also happens if i try and make a new pirate.

Nick,

Sounds like maybe your client is not connecting to the server after you finish with the login server (the character screen). Check the log file on the bug report. It should say where the server told the client to close.

I would suspect that maybe the port that the game server connects on is being blocked by your firewall?

On a related note, I have to close ZoneAlarm and all my virus programs to play the game. Like a previous poster, my anti-virus software wants to scan everything that come through the net. It also randomly starts scanning folders. I just leave the router turned on and set the ports that POTCO and other games use.

Hi Piratesahoy - I got this same email today... are they talking about the options button on the main screen after logging on? I searched my control panel and got nowhere with that... sad thing is, I can't get beyond logging in - main screen with choose a pirate is black and then the nasty mircosoft error message. If this is found someplace different, please let me know. thanks

Ms_Moofers, the options they are talking about our POTCO game options.
the first option screen is on the "select a pirate" screen, or by f7 ingame.

guess that doesnt help you much.
